Two cats from two different clans with feelings surpassing clan rivalry...

Fireheart rose to his paws in the ThunderClan warrior den. Stretching in his nest he blinked and the slowly, carefully tiptoed out into the cold night air. Shaking off the moss that still clung to his fur he looked around and then steathily snuck out through the gorse tunnel and made his way up the ravine towards Sunning Rocks.
Once he reached the rocks he slowed and scented the air, no sign of the cat he was to meet yet, he moved towards the river and sat on the bank with his tail curled around his paws, all senses alert as he waited for her knowing that if any of his clan caught him he would have no good reason for being out at the river this late. What was worse was that right now, at the riverbank, he was on RiverClan territory and if one of those cats found him he'd be in for a world of trouble but he stayed put. Waiting to see if the she-cat he longed to see would make it to their meeting spot this night.

Fernpelt realized it was time to go so she walked out of the warriors den quietly and snuck out in the cold night air.
She ran over to the ThunderClan border and quickly looked around to make sure no one was following her. She saw Fireheart already there and swam across the river with ease. She went up to him and mewed, "I missed you."

Fireheart heard her coming before he saw her. When she came over the crest of the hill on the other side of the river his heart skipped a beat. Then she was at his side and he immediately pressed himself to her so she wouldn't freeze in the cold night air. "I missed you too." he purred in her ear.
He found himself licking her fur to dry her off after her swim in the icy cold river. Leafbare was a terrible time for them to be meeting, it was really too cold out for either of them to have to be out at night, much less swimming across a river. "How have you been?"

"I've been fine" she mewed, "How about you?" She purred softly when he dried her fur off. "I've been having so much trouble getting out of camp the last few days... But it's been worth it to see you again." She purred. "I only wish we could put aside clan differences to be with eachother always."

He stopped when he was finished drying her fur and turned to look at her. "Trouble getting out of camp? Do they suspect something?" his voice was edgy with concern. If her clan caught on they would have to stop seeing eachother until the suspicion died away and that could take a long time. Luckily for him he had Cloudpelt in camp who would always cover for him if someone noticed him missing. "I wish that too, maybe someday we'll be able to be together, StarClan can't possibly think that loving a cat from another clan is wrong if the cats are soulmates and if StarClan don't punish us what right do our own clans have to do it for them?"

"If only it were that simple." She sighed and looked up to him. "I had to tell my brother about us. He says he doesn't like it but he won't tell, but there is one cat who is suspicious." She just hoped that Feathersong wouldn't come after her scent trail. Then she remembered that it was really late so odds were that no cat would come after her scent trail, then suddenly she caught a whiff of a cat. "Hurry under this bush!" She mewed as she rushed Fireheart in the bush. As she peered out of the bush her fur went down as she realized that it was just a rouge. "That was close." She mewed as the fear died from her eyes.

Fireheart's eyes widened, another cat knew? He grimaced then sighed and let it go. Of couse she would have to tell her brother, it was only natural. But he was worried, if another cat in RiverClan suspected something they might be watching Fernpelt or trying to convince their clan that she wasn't to be trusted.
He picked up the scent just as she did and made it to the bush in record time, crouched there, peering out at the rogue he sighed and turned to look at her. "Fernpelt i'm not sure if it's safe for us to keep meeting like this, at least not until the suspicions for that one cat you spoke of die down. They could be watching you or tracking your scent or something and I don't want you to get into trouble with your clan." He hoped she could tell that it wasn't that he didn't want to be with her, just that he was looking out for her welfare.

Fernpelt's eyes sadenned at the thought of leaving Fireheart for awhile even seeing him once a day broke her heart when she wasn't with him. "I guess if that's what you want..." Fernpelt mewed sadly but before he responded she licked his ear and gave him one sorrowful glance before plunging back into the river and swimming back to the other side.
She was too upset about leaving Fireheart so she just found some shelter by the river and laid down to think about Fireheart. She wondered if he really wanted to be with her. She decided that the next day at nightfall she would go back to their meeting spot and wait for him to come if he did.

He saw the sadness in her eyes and it felt like a fox was ripping him apart but he couldn't back down. This was for her own safety. "It is..." he murmured but she was licking his ear as he spoke and he wasn't sure she heard him. Suddenly she plunged into the river and took off. "Fernpelt!" He called but he couldn't see or smell her anymore. The river had masked her scent.
With sorrow and guilt ripping him apart he finally left the river bank and headed back to camp, tiptoeing into his nest in the warriors den he curled up, tail over his nose and tried to look like he was sleeping though he was too troubled to actually do so. In his mind he knew he could keep going to the meeting place even though she wouldn't be there, even though he had told her to stay away... it wouldn't be the same but it would be something.

After not to long she fell asleep she remembered first meeting Fireheart it was at a gathering she was a new warrior at the time and when she looked into his eyes she knew she loved him and always would.
She woke up at the break of dawn and wlked warily back to her camp she noticed a few cats eyeing her suspiciously and when she got to her den she noticed Spottedfire staring at her with concern in his eyes. Before he could say anything she just mewed simply, "I guess you were right, it wasn't meant to be." She wanted to just disappear but she knew she couldn't.
After the day ended and it became nightfall she walked slowly back to Fireheart and her meeting spot and awaited his arrival. She stared at the stars the whole time she was waiting. "I guess he's not coming after all." She mewed sadly. and she was about to plunge back into the river when...

Fireheart rose from his nest as he had been doing nearly every night since he first met Fernpelt at that gathering. Sneaking away from camp he slid through the forest silently, lost in thought and drowning in his remorse he finally reached the spot where they usually met. He saw a cat there... his heart skipped a beat then he shrugged... it couldn't be her, best stay hidden in case it's a rogue or enemy clan cat.
Then the wind changed direction and blew the sweet scent of Fernpelt too him. As it did this he saw her turn to leave. Just as she reached the water's edge he burst out of his hiding place "Fernpelt!" he called as he raced toward her hoping she wouldn't leave now that he was there. He knew he'd hurt her and he wanted to make things right.

Fernpelt's eyes glazed with fear when she heard her name being called and somewhat relaxed when she realized that it was Fireheart. "Fireheart, so I guess you came after all." She mewed softly. She took a step back from the river when she saw him. "So, I guess you want to tell me that you don't want to be with me anymore." She mewed sadly cause she knew that in her heart no cat could ever replace Fireheart.

Firestar's eyes widened with shock? Was she crazy? How could she even think that he would say something like that. "No, no, nothing like that, how could you think that?" he stepped closer to her "I love you Fernpelt, nothing will ever change that. I just think it would be safer for both of us if we stopped meeting so often. I think some of my clan may be starting to catch on but I'm not sure and I know that there is a cat in your clan who is starting too..." he stared at her waiting to see if she would understand.

Fernpelt's eyes brightened at his responce. "I'm sorry, I was just so confused about you wanting us to see eachother less often, I was just..." She looked up at him with relief in her eyes. "Tomorrow is the gathering so we can meet there, and the truth is that there was another cat who liked me but I turned him down for you. His name is Feathersong but he has a mate now, when he heard me reject him he got suspicious and..." She shuddered, she had no doubt in Fireheart's strengh but she knew Feathersong's streangh well so she hoped that he would not hurt Fireheart. "I love you too, and I guess you are right, how about we see eachother every other day?" She mewed thoughtfully.
