today i was walking through the city with some mates and i saw some guys i knew from my school. one of them stopped and said,
"hey look, it's the jazz f**!" so i gave them that speech about how jazz was most likely the roots of whatever music they're into, and what does jazz have to do with a persons sexual orientation. after this they shouted back at me,
"your not playing music if your not playing metal"

"your not playing music if your not playing metal" scream HAHAHAHAHAH THAT'S HILLARIOUS!!!! Man it's amazing how closeminded people can be about music in general. Although most jazz musicians may say the same thing about metal but at least they know things about their craft like it's history and it's theory. They must not listen to bands like Mr Bungle and Dream theater.

I just thought it was a bunch of guys screaming into a mic about something that makes no sense.. because no one can understand what they are saying to begin with. rofl

Saying stuff like that makes your as bad as anyone who says Jazz is... whatever it is they say.
While I'm not a fan of metal, there's some very impressive guitar and drum stuff going on (at least in the 'better' bands), though I have to agree with you when it comes to teh screaming. I never understood that one.

While I'm not a fan of metal, there's some very impressive guitar and drum stuff going on (at least in the 'better' bands), though I have to agree with you when it comes to teh screaming. I never understood that one. i agree, i am a fan of metal and jazz and i like listening to metal to play the guitar parts because they are very challanging, but at the same time i love working on jazz to improve my theory and technique..

Yeah, I don't get that a lot, cause my school's BD loves jazz, and nobody in the band, or anybody outside of it would bloody DARE to insult it xd I've been called a f** for being a jazz aficionado on Gaia a bunch of times, though. Just say "Well, sorry if my jazz is interrupting your busy narcotic schedule. I'll be more careful next time; help us GOD if you miss your 3:00 marijuana appointment."

Most Metal makes me laugh out loud.
I literally go to local metal shows to listen and jump around ridiculously (cause it's normal there)
Half the time I end up laughing out loud at their screaming or what they do in the song.
Metal can take a lot of talent, I just think to be a great musician is even more difficult because you don't hide everything (especially your tone) behind a distortion pedal.
Just tell them that, "At least I don't hide my tone behind a distortion pedal!"
Yeah... that'll show em...

I don't even say what I like and listen to unless people ask, since most of the people I know either think that jazz is, and this is a direct quote 'hundred year old stuff that we don't know about' or is 'too hard to listen to cus there's no guitar, man'.
