After a discussion in DYBIM, a few of us came up with a fair way to decide how costumes will be chosen.

Well...you have everyone who's interested in participating sign up. Number the people. Give 'em a week or two to sign up.
Then use a randomizer for each person, using 1 to however many people there are. If the number generated is the person's number, try again. Then, PM the person what number they drew. Keep everything a secret so it's a surprise who is dressing as who.

If people already know who they want to dress up as, it'd be at a first come, first serve basis. Ruby would tell people that, starting at an exact time, people who want to dress up as someone should PM her with who they want. Then, on the sign up sheet, people who already have a plan get marked as such.
Then those people who have no idea/don't care can use the randomizer.
Then those people who have no idea/don't care can use the randomizer.
Basically, it's going to end up looking like this:
Sept 25 - Oct. 1 - Additional sign ups
Oct. 2 - Those who have already chosen who they would like to dress up as can PM that choice to me. (Will be done on a first come, first serve basis) Please, only PM me on this date. It's the only way I can keep it fair.
Oct. 3 - Those who have not responded or have no preference will be randomly assigned a fellow modist to dress up as.
Oct. 4 - Oct 30 - Time to assemble your costume
Oct 31 - Event.
Also, addressing concerns on expensive avatars:
Katane
One way to work around that would be for the person making the costume to substitute them with less expensive items, like the cig instead of the long drag, etc. People with less gold would have to be more creative, which is not necessarily a bad thing.
These are costumes, for fun. It doesn't have to be perfect. You can substitute items in, or maybe borrow one or two from a fellow modist or friend. It's nothing to get really worked up over. If you find yourself having serious problems, PM me and I'll see what I can do to help.
The goal is to get these as close as possible. If you feel comfortable changing your avatar's hair and eyes, then go for it. You can even copy your person's sig for the day. However, if you want to keep your hair, eyes, etc then that will be fine also. I don't want to force you to mimic them in a certain way, just be creative and have fun.
If you feel something is wrong with what I have set out, let me know.
