Life had been difficult enough for Jay. His father was hounding him about his lack of involvement in school. He was giving him the college prep speech almost every day now and talking about how colleges like people who get involved. On top of this Jay still had school and his secret practice sessions with Clarence. On the bright side Jay had gained much better control over his powers. He wasn’t accidently breaking things all the time now. Jay often thought about how well his abilities were developing. He often found himself wondering how strongly he had developed them and was trying his best to find excuses to use them. A perfect excuse was about to present itself to him.

As Jay was walking home from school he spotted it. In the alley some poor guy had crossed Jacob Nobbs and his gang. Whoever the poor guy was he was getting pounded. Nobbs had two of his guys holding this one down while he himself did the pounding. Jay couldn’t help, but feel bad for the guy. He had probably just been at the wrong place at the wrong time. Nobbs was one of the biggest jerks in school. He sighed and back away. His first reaction was to get away from there, but then he thought of something. What if he used his abilities to help. With enough force Jay could send Nobbs and his gang right into the sewer. The trick was not to send the other guy into the sewer as well.

Jay waited. He had to make sure Nobbs let the guy go before taking action. Finally the poor guy was thrown up against some trash cans and Jay took action. He stomped on the ground and sent a wave right to where Nobbs and his group where. It wasn’t long before the ground around them began to rumble. And soon it collapsed. There was a great deal of splashing and one could hear the cries of the gang as they feel into the filthy water of the sewer. The young man they had been beating seemed extremely confused. He crawled over to the hole and looked down it in shock. Jay took a moment to examine his work before making a run for it. After all, there was a crack leading right to where he had been standing.

It hadn't taken anytime for people to notice that something had gone WRONG. Because, well, when the ground shook and things fell in, loud noises were made. People came flocking over, an emergency system was called.

And in the mess, Jay wasn't noticed. Everyone was concerned about the death of the boys, and what weakness in the concrete could have POSSIBLY caused the collapse.

Jay had lucked out twice that day: First of all, he HAD hit a weak spot that had easily collapsed. That was a freak accident that wasn't likely to happen again. Secondly, he had not gotten noticed, but the following day, Clarence decided to drop hints on it.

"So, Jay, that was some weird collapse yesterday with the road. Wonder what could have caused that." The man mused. He raised an eyebrow at the boy, something Jay would know meant he expected a response.

(( Sorry If I played things off a little too expertly for him or just unrealistic. If it ever happens just let me know and I’ll be happy to edit or adjust things. ))

Jay didn’t say anything right away. Nor did he look at Clarence. He was still in a state of mourning. He didn’t think the concrete would collapse or that anyone would get killed. In his arrogance he had hurt his fellow classmates and jeopardized his own safety. He hadn’t thought much of it right away, but after hearing the news he came to realize what he had truly done and how lucky he had been to escape without being noticed. There was nothing he could do about it now and that was his only comfort. “What’s to wonder?” Jay said. “If you have something to say then just say it.” After a pause he added, “I just want to go home and go to bed.”

((I wasn't so sure about the ground collapsing, but I think you played it very well. A rash action made by a teenage boy. Of course he didn't think it through. wink ))

"Ah, so you know something about it that others don't, or you were close to those boys," Clarence decided immediately. He pushed his glasses up as he considered the boy. "Running away isn't going to help you, son. You can't just sleep away problems and hope they'll disappear, because they won't. Mistakes happen. Hey, I'm glad you're ok and it wasn't any worse. And you're smart, you didn't do that without a cause. What sort of boys were those, really? What kind of contributions would they have ended up making to society?" Clarence knew he was walking on thin ice, but decided to prod around it. He'd seen the pictures of the boys on the news, and he could guess what type they'd been. Now, if he could get Jay thinking in the right direction about this whole thing. . .

Clarence’s words seemed to calm Jay down at first. He knew that Nobbs and his crew were scum. They would have probably remained scum for the rest of their lives. They might have ended up in jail for assault or even murder. It was a possibility, but what about himself. He had murdered and what was worse is he didn’t even realize what he had done until later. At the time it had been nothing. What was he going to become? “What could I contribute to society?” He said with a bitter voice that was bordering on a complete emotional breakdown. “All I can do is destroy. I can’t do anything for anyone with being a threat to their lives!” He screamed at Clarence now. He was losing it. It took him a few moments to realize this. He focused on collecting himself. “I need to go...” he said as he headed towards the door.

"Jay, you come here!" There was a level of authority in Clarence's voice that Jay would recognize by now to mean there wasn't really a choice in the matter, "Don't you say that sort of thing about yourself. What can you contribute to society? You're not seriously asking that question, are you?" He demanded, coming around now so he was facing Jay, "You are evolved. Do you know what that means? You are a higher lifeform than those scumbags were in the first place, and you have done society a favor now by getting rid of people that would have simply been a determent in the long run. You saved the one kid from being bullied. You have done your job, as a superior lifeform, in protecting the inferior lifeforms from themselves. And you will learn, and refine your skills, and become better and you will continue to be that for them. The stronger looks after and is above the weaker always. Do not let their standards and beliefs come into your thoughts and pull you down. That is foolishness. You are young and you are learning, but you will become great and you will be a winner for your kind."

Clarence spoke with full conviction in his words. It was obvious that he believed what he said, and he wanted Jay to believe it as well.

Jay didn’t know what to say now. He was superior? He had never thought himself superior to anyone. He had simply thought himself cursed all his life. He had been cursed to live as a villain in his own household in order to hide the fact that he was, ‘evolved’. His father would constantly yell at him because he broke something and he would make some snappy remark like, it pissed me off, just to hide his abilities. Was it right that he had to hide who and what he was? Was it right for him to take Nobbs’ life? Was he a higher being then them. He shook his head violently for a moment then stopped. “I need some time to think.” He said, “I just need some time.” He sounded much calmer despite the fact that he was more confused now then before. He wanted Clarence to understand. Jay needed to get over this himself.

((after he leaves I’ll do some self roleplay stuff with him cause I really want to do some character development.))

Clarence considered Jay, "I want you to stay here, you can go to the guest room if you like. Stay for dinner. We'd be happy to have you. Please stay, that way if there's anything I can do for you, I'm right here. I want you to consider what I said, but I don't want you to go about doing it by yourself. You don't need to, I'm here and you're not alone. But I will give you your space."

OOC: Clarence is going to push it until Jay agrees. He's not likely to let him just leave being super upset.

"I can't stay." Jay answered quickly. "My parents will be expecting me home." He rubbed his eyes as they were now tearing and struggled to gain some composer. He was focusing on calming himself down. He needed to calm himself down and get out of there.”I don’t want them to know about my abilities. Especially not now.” He added as he pushed the issue. “I need to go home. The walk will cool my head and I will be fine.” He steaded himself slowly and soon some of the tension seemed to fade away.

Clarence did not let Jay leave right then. He couldn't just LET him go to begin with, he wanted to make sure the boy was ok. He directed him to his spare room, or he could use the back yard to pace in if he preferred, but he was not to leave just in case.

After some hours of that, Clarence finally let Jay go, sending him off with some baked goods of his wife's and giving him some words of encouragement.

OOC: Quick summary of it. Clarence would have won the argument in the end, but Jay SHOULD recognize it was out of concern for him and not out of being a jerk or anything. He's just being a hard father-type figure. ^_^ I think any parent would have done something similar.

The next few days were rather surprising. The school made an announcement and called for a moment of silence for the boys that died in the freak accident. Jay still felt guilty over what he had done, but he managed to stop himself from doing anything rash about it. He wasn’t ready to turn himself in and go to prison. He wasn’t ready to except being locked up for the rest of his life. He would have to thank Clarence later for calming him down and talking to him

He might have felt worse had anyone at his school actually felt bad for what the boys that died, but nothing seemed to change. His classmates continued on as if nothing had happened. The only difference was that the young guy the group had been beating up became a celebrity for being the only survivor. Jay may not have said anything about what happened, but he was not acting the same as usual. He was talking less and less by the day. His friends and family even took notice. Jay had to fend off their questions. He choked down some food for the sake of eating, but he didn’t really fully hungry. He felt heavy and started sleeping a lot. The only good thing that seemed to come from this was that all his grades went up. Studying was a great distraction from his worries.
