Theron's job was to clean. Some weeks it would seem as if the women did not know what they really wanted of him, as one day he would be cleaning a floor, and then the next emptying trash receptacles, regardless of whether or not he had finished the previous task. Most of the time his work was physically tiring, and he labored under only the most trusted slaves and lower-class women overseers. This was because he was known for causing trouble, yet his job was not prestigious enough to justify greater attention. His attempted escapes had failed quite badly in the past and he had been severely punished; additionally, the women believed that he had always had help, and possibly even the idea itself had been planted in his head by someone else. If that were the case, working under a loyal slave should do the trick.

Theron's life was not colorless, however. He met or observed many people whether they lived in the capital or were just passing through. The capital was the only true city in all of Feretris, so it was the busiest, the proudest, and the worst place to escape from. The loyal slaves that he worked under were often loyal either through a broken spirit or through a spirit turned cruel. He never knew who he'd be working for next, or what they'd have him doing.

One day he was cleaning the floor of a politician's office. The politician normally received a lot of traffic but had cleared her schedule for the cleaning. She sat at her desk as he worked, pouring through paperwork when another woman knocked and hurriedly entered. "There are visitors for you," she breathed quickly. "They will not say who they are, but they are foreign women who seem to possess a different magic."

"And they asked for me specifically?"

"They asked for the person in charge of foreign affairs. I came to you since you run the department, my lady."

With that, all the servants were cleared out and Theron was given a new task. He was assigned to assist an exotic animal stable that had just gotten a new addition; a snake. He was shown to a carriage that had just arrived, and put under the charge of a slave loyal to the woman who had come in the carriage. He was to help them carry the cage and show them to the stable where it was to be kept.

Sih had been jostled and received occasional bumps before, but nothing prepared her for the trip atop the carriage. It was such a strange, uncomfortable way of traveling. Stuffed in a sack and left alone most of the time to the cold exterior, She was forced to endure the bitter bite of the wind and the cold air of morning. Coupled with the jostling, she was a wreck. There were several places along her body she felt were bruised or a few scales bent at peculiar angles. She longed for the warmth of Arril, or even his warmer, unaltered cousins. What she longed for the most, was conversation.

As the carriage made a final stop, she wondered what sort of hurtful hands she was going to be placed in now. She wondered where Arril was, and if he was alright.

They would both get away...

***

Arril had resolved himself to say nothing to the disgusting people, the slaves as he observed. He couldn't come to understand why they would let themselves be treated in this manner. To live under constant oppression from the tryants and overwatch of the women of Feretris. He spoke only a few words to the women, as they smelled considerably better than any of the slaves, but they were only in reguards as to when Sih was going to be returned to him. He would not say a word otherwise. To be separated from the one that was closer to him than any he had ever known was a most unspeakable act of cruelty; and as he saw what happened in the lands of Feretris in the occupation of women, he started plotting an escape from the carriage, searching for a weakness in the way the slaves and women operated. He had to get away from the one woman, though. Get to shadow, -with- Sih. otherwise it would be more of the unbearable pain. He shuddered.

He ran through what they did every night: The woman would stand to the side, watching everything, the men would walk in front and behind him, making sure he didn't do anything. then the woman would tend to something else when he was near the building they were going to occupy for the night. There had to be a flaw... And Sih... He tried to see where they took her every night, trying to turn and yell to her, but there was no getting past those men...

He sighed and resolved himself to stooping over and pretending to be sick. He had been doing this for the past four days, putting his hands at his tailtip and trying to slip it through the keyhole. Everything rode on being able to get out of the manacles. if he could do it silenty, and somehow keep them on, he would have one less obstacle to deal with in his escape.

He had to get Sih... it was the only thing that mattered.

As they gradually got closer to the capital, he redied himself for the most difficult battle of his lifetime.

Theron had sighed as he had to do yet another task. Following their orders, just to be away from him oppressors, he studied everyone that was near him making note of who they were. He walked to the cage, and took it from the person that was carrying it. He followed what he was told to do, as he did not want to be forced to go back to where he was before. Theron looked atop the carriage on its way to the capital, and saw a bag atop of it, and noticed that there seemed to be a snake in there. He just walked next to the carriage as they went towards the capital, looking at the scenery, looking for any escape routs.

((Sorry for the short post XD I wasn't sure if he was in the carrige, or on top of it, or what...

Its ok. I also have a job during the day. And I am used to role plays being slow.))

((Sih is a female snake, and Arril is a male being, inside the carriage. Sih would be on top of the carriage, inside of a bag. I'm sorry, but this will be a slow RP, as School and my church and my two jobs are priority. *is currently in tech for a degree in Dental Hygiene*))

((ah what the hay... I'll do an observatory post. it should suffice until Penden writes again. short and sweet.))

Arril drew the hood of his cloak over his face, sheilding it from any unseen eyes. He had been asked to do so many times, and this was no different. He looked outside. This was different...

He watched the newcomer, wondering what he would do.

(Theron has been handed Sih. Although they originally captured her in a bag, I figured that they'd easily be able to get some sort of cage for her (like a fish tank) on their way to the capital. Sorry!)

Sih's cage was covered so that she could not see who was moving her, but the male that she smelled was a new human. She also smelled Arril as she was lifted down off of the top of the wagon. If Theron followed the directions given to him, soon Sih would be in a concrete room with other caged animals, all or nearly all of which were not sentient or could not talk back to her. Some of them, however, were magical, and there was a semi-permanent dampening field in the room that the owner renewed every other night. The field dampened certain offensive magical attacks and did not affect Sih's ability to speak to whomever.

Arril was led out of the carriage at nearly the same time, and could probably guess that the cage held Sih, although he might still think that she was in the bag. The woman who had brought him here was leading him under guard in the same direction, not too far down the street. Now that they were in a bona fide city, they had to deal with such things as designated parking spaces and full-scale inns designed to house a person or a family any where from one night to months at a time.

Theron found himself followed by the people in the carriage. When he arrived at his designated drop-off point, the carriage people entered in after him, including the oddly cloaked man. Another woman that he had never met before led them all inside and asked him to set the cage down next to the other cages, but did not dismiss him. She turned to Arril and his guards as they closed the door behind them.

"Take off your cloak."

((actually, it is more comfortable for a snake to be placed in a bag. A cage will make them jittery and prone to attack. It's also harder to get out of a bag. Snakes are natural escape artists, so be wary. Especially of a jittery smart snake... Oh, and Sih can only talk to someone who understands snake languages. she is not able to talk to other animals at all.))

Arril's plan had went to shambles when he had stepped out of the carriage. There were so many buildings, so many people, so many things to be wary about. There was also the newcomer, holding sih. He did not want to risk any harm to her at all, so he delayed his plan of escape. it needed to be perfect for it to work, and navigating throughout the strange forest of buildings with trails of cobblestones weaving in and out of them, it was going to take some time for Arril to orient himself.

As he walked inside the building, He smelled other animals, none of which were canine. He could only guess where they were taking him, and he said nothing to his captors. He knew not of their intentions with him and wondered what they would do.

His eyes never left the covered cage; and since Sih's scent was stronger than it had been when they had put her in the bag, he supposed that she lay in the cage uninhibited. He smiled. Sih would be able to get out of a cage.

He stood before his captors and listened to their demand, shaking his head. "When will I be with sih, once more?" He asked, his fingers flexing. He wished he still had his weapons. They were both taken from him some time ago. He still had his tail, though, and lashed it around in frustration. They had told him to keep his tail hidden, but he refused to do so now. He'd have to remove his cloak at some point, best to reveal what he was, little by little.
-------------
At hearing Arril's voice, sih hissed in frustration of her cage. With time, she would be able to escape from it, but now she was unable to do anything, weak from the carriage ride and the cold. She hissed and spit her discomfort, knowing that she was withing earshot of her Leige(sp)
-------------
Arril clenched his fists together, listening to the uncomfortable hisses of his familiar. "You have not treated her the right way." He said calmly, his anger masked. "I have told you before, she isn't just an animal."

He pulled off his cloak, revealing a highly agitated expression and bristling spines that used to hang at a comfortable angle atop his head. Tossing the thing on the floor, he controled himself, remembering last time. It was useless to launch an attack as he would have in the wilderness.

He hissed unconciously in anger, making the men that were supposed to guard him back away a step. He glared at them, and turned his back to the whole group, shaking his head. In the wilderness, a creature that inflicted any discomfort to Sih would have been killed without mercy. His helplessness in this situation disturbed him to the very core of his being.

He felt something stirr inside of him, something long forgotten, but as he tried to focus on it, his mind still trying to calm his unchecked anger, it dissapeared into the depths of his soul.

calmed, somewhat, Arril looked at the hall they had come through, freedom aching to break free in him. He had to wait until he could free Sih, first.

He kept his back turned to the others and focused on springtime in the mountains, after the long winter on it's slopes...

(uh, that's weird, because snake owners keep their snakes in glass cages all the time, and it's really easy to transfer a snake from a bag to a cage)

((The way the posts where written I had though that Sih was in the bag atop the carriage, and Theron was holding an empty cage. And yea people do keep their snakes in glass containers, or what ever they are called XD The bags are just to keep them from getting out, snakes can open cages very easily.))

Theron had marveled at the capital, seeing it for the first time. Wondering if there was a way he could possibly explore the city, just to find a way to escape. He looked around as they had entered the building, and followed as instructed. He sat the cage down next to the other cages gently, and Stood next to them, waiting for what else h had to do.

He watched them all, and listened, not paying any particular attention to them.

Sih? There is no one else here besides just us. Thinking that to him self, he saw Arril take off his cloak. Surprised to see that is how he had looked, Theron jumped backwards into the cages, knocking Sih's, and a few others over.

((I couldn't find Arril's profile...))

((oog, that will push Arril over the edge. prepare for violence! Oh, and Snakes are mostly kept in secure cages when they are not in transit eg. in a classroom or home, but when they are being transported, it is preferred they are kept in a bag because they feel safer to the snake, and the proper bag retains heat. I'm going to assume that one of the slaves has a sword or knife near Arril. my profile: http://www.gaiaonline.com/guilds/viewtopic.php?page=3&t=9623175#120527457 ))

Hearing the crash and the pained hiss from Sih, Arril whirled around to look at the violence, and felt his eyes glaze over as his instincts took over.

With lightning swiftness, as everyone was focused on the mayhem the clumsy slave had created, Arril leapt on the nearest armed slave and pulled his knife free from his belt. As the slave was still toppling over, Arril dug his claws in the man's chest and gave a mighty shove with his legs, and sent him at a much faster speed to the floor. He would be lucky to be alive if he didn't hit his head.

As Arril shot into midair, everyone just realizing he had taken action, everything had slowed down for him, his instincts and pure adrenaline pulsing through his veins. There was a split second where he had to decide what he was going to do; it was plenty of time for him.

He had been gauging all of the slaves strengths and weaknesses, and his instincts told him that the men would be the first threat, as they were definitely much stronger than the woman in physical strength. He took a fraction of time to glance at the woman, frozen in time to him. He hated her cold gaze, the evil way she had harnessed the spirits to harm him, corrupt his knees. She was priority. She would die second, after the owner of the knife he now held in his hand.

His hand had already been raised, his arm already tensed. He let the blade fly straight and true. He had thrown his blade a few times before, his aim had only been a few inches apart at a further distance than the one of the woman in front of him, so he had no worries that he might miss. It was only a question of the woman's ability to realize she was in mortal danger. He hoped that she would not realize that the disaster with Sih's cage would push him over the edge in the back of his mind, but at his state now it did not matter. He would kill the woman with his bare hands if the knife was deflected somehow, no matter how much pain she gave him.

The knife was in the middle of it's course as he started to descend. Everything moved slowly to him, still, as he watched the situation unfold.

Theron had been even more surprised by the way Arril had suddenly started to attack people. He hopelessly watched as Arril had killed the slave, then attacked the woman. He watched him, that was all Theron could do.

Thinking of a way he could use this to his advantage to escape, and finally be free from them, he thought of a way to get by the guards. Surely there had to be guards going to where they where. Looking at the now dead slave quickly, then over to the guards that where there, then to Arril. He smiled some, as he had finally found a way to escape.

Theron glanced at the nearest pole, before lunging at it. He grabbed onto it, and held it in his hands. Looking around as everyone had to be focused on Arril now, he charged strait towards the woman that Arril was attacking. He swung the pipe at the womans legs, to knock her down, then grabbed onto Arril, and tried to pull him off. "We have to leave now! More people surely must be coming here to attack us if we don't leave!" He shouted in a squiky voice, as he held onto Arril.

((Dam I gotta work on my post length and I hope this is good enough.))
PostPosted: Sun Dec 23, 2007 8:21 pm

The small group was easy to dispatch because of the crowded conditions and the confusion caused by the tumbled cages. The surprise attack took care of the one woman who could have used the "spirit magic" on them. The other slaves had either run off or were stunned or dead. Theron was absolutely right that the noise they had made would draw unwanted attention. As further impetus, some of the animals in the damaged cages looked dangerous and actively sought escape by banging at bent and broken pieces.

One such creature was the size of a large dog, with ugly grey wings and a snapping-turtle-like beak. Four double-jointed panther claws rattled the bars to the cage door, further damaging the lock. The thing hissed and screeched as its reptile tail slapped against the backside of its prison.

Sih was also able to escape, although it was difficult to tell at first if she might be at all damaged, or just cranky from all the noise.

A dilemma faced Arril. If he should run out as he was, his unusual form might be hidden, but his movement would be restricted. They were both armed, yet running would certainly draw attention. He would have to trust Theron to know enough back ways to lose any pursuers.

Arril slung the slave off him and clutched a bloody dagger he had used to gut the spirit woman. He turned to the slave and glared at him, ready to throw the knife if he moved an inch.

When he didn't, Arril's eyes slowly turned back to their feirce blue, and he surveyed the scene for an instant, before running to Sih's cage. "Are you hurt, my friend?" He asked the python in the reptillian language.

Sih hissed her discomfort and hunger, but otherwize, she was just weak and bruised. Arril could deal with that for now. He delicately picked the battered snake up and draped her across his neck and shoulders, in her usual position. He reveled in the reunion for a few seconds, before he noticed the creature trying to escape it's cage. He wondered if it could understand reptile, or common animal language. "Can you understand me?" He said, keeping his distance from the damaged cage, but kneeling close.

Perhaps it could help them escape. He was still aware of the slave to his rear, but the boy might be an asset in the future. he might need him, so he kept wary of him, but left him alone for now.
