He wanted to pursue a solo career. And I'm not sure its going as well as his band career went.
I've done more reasearch. He also quit because being in FFTL was to hard on his vocal cords. You remember the nodules he had on his throat right? He had to have surgery. They had to leave warped tour 2006 because of it.

yea i agree with the true fftl fans now all my friends hate them and only like there old cds with sonny nd i still like there new stuff i mean its not as good but its not terrible
