Okay, my friend had an interesting question after she watched the movie. She asked me, "What would the Phantom do if something really bad happened to Christine, like, if she was diagnosed with tuberculosis and there wasn't a cure and Christine were to have a fatal coughing fit and die in the Phantom's arms? What would he do then?"

He'd probably die too. Erik was not in a healthy state to begin with. Even if he could continue living physically, mentally he wouldn't be able to take the depression.

After Christine left him, he died "from love". He could not take it anymore, so having her die in his arms would most likely have him either die on the spot from emotional distress (a heart attack maybe?) or have him die later on, perhaps after killing many innocents.
The movie version of him however, I will assume you mean the musical, would probably just kill things.

Christine: *dies dramatically* xp
Erik: AH CRAP! gonk
Me: Ding dong, the witch is dead! xd Now to make my move on a once again single phantom cool
Anyways, Erik would probably die too, either physically from suicide or lacking the will to go on or mentally and emotionally from the depression and despair.

I don't know if he would die. In the past, he has clearly shown himself to be a survivor. I doubt he'd be stupid enough to lay down and die just because the idiot Christine died.
By the way, was your friend thinking of Moulin Rouge? That's what the scenario reminds me of. (That hero didn't lie down and die, I can tell you that much.)
Anyway, right now the Phantom is on my black list anyway, so he if did go off and die, I lose all respect for him.

And Phantom is no Moulin Rouge. Erik's not in a normal state of mind, and as he's pushing old age in the book, shock is not a good thing. Especially the death of a young girl who admires you and whom you love enough to kill for.

Yes, that is the scenario she was thinking of. In fact, I do believe that she said something to the effect of "Let's combine Phantom of the Opera with Moulin Rouge." I, however, did not recognize the title for I have never seen Moulin Rouge. My friend did say that the movie version of the musical reminded her of Moulin Rouge (in an artistic visual sense not a storyline/character sense).

I may be coldhearted, but the idea of Erik going on a bloody rampage (well, a bloodier rampage than usual) is mildly amusing. "CARE FOR A SHAVE??" But anyway, I agree with the above points.

Well, no. I just couldn't think of anything else to say that would signify a bloody murderous rampage.
Haha, a PotO/Sweeney Todd crossover would kick so much butt though. I only say that because I like any and all crossovers, no matter how WTF-worthy.

"Attend the Tale of Erik Todd, his skin was deformed and his eye was odd..." Well, people were braindead enough to think that Sweeney was a sequel to Edward Scissorhands, so why not Phantom?

What on earth would give them the idea that it's a sequel? Just cos Johnny Depp is in it and he's pale and depressed, does not mean it is anything like ES! scream [/Sweeney fangirl]

Hello, I'm the new girl on the block. If I may interject my idea....I think that if anything were to happen to Christine in any fashion good or bad from either her perspective or Erik's he would take the wrong way. So look at this she's to be engaged to Raoul and Erik gets jealous and tries to kill Raoul. Good for Christine bad for Erik. Erik thinks that Christine should just sing her little heart out...so I think if anything changing the story line would be that Erik's so obsessive controlling stalking nature towards Christine would kill her. I digress...back to topic if she were to die before Erik was done with her he wouldn't have a reason to continue, unless he could find an acceptable replacement for her. His whole reason of living was Christine. So what does a psychopath..sociopath do? Either self destruct or go on a bloody rampage then self destruct.
