I give credit to MipsyKitten for the link and the script-out.

Quote:
HASSELBECK: I was very- at heart, I'm very against this policy because I believe it’s more of a gift.

BEHAR: Are you against Social Security, too?

HASSELBECK: No. Against this policy, but then I realized that there is a benefit because I feel like this could maybe cause less abortions in the world. You know, people would keep having kids instead.

GOLDBERG: Elisabeth, Elisabeth, can I ask you one question–can I ask you a question? I just have to ask you this question since you opened this door.

HASSELBECK: Sure

GOLDBERG: Have you ever been in a position to have to make that decision?

HASSELBECK: Never, never.

GOLDBERG: Okay, then back off a little bit. Back off a little bit. Very few people want to have abortions.

HASSELBECK: I'm sure they don't.

GOLDBERG: See, I was listening.

HASSELBECK: I was just affirming what you said.

GOLDBERG: Most people do not want to have abortions. Most women do not have them with some sort of party going on. It is the hardest decision that a woman ever- wait- ever has to make. So, when you talk about it, a little bit of reverence to the women out there who have had to make this horrible decision. And one of the reasons that, that we have had to make this decision is because so many women were found bleeding, dead, with hangers in their bodies because they were doing it themselves. The idea of this was to make it safe and clean. That was the reason the law came into effect. That was why it was done.

Now, Whoopi gets an applause. Why? Probably because she's popular opinion. But why?

I have two beefs with this. And they are beefs that really accurately represent the opposite side.

Here's the wording right out of her mouth: "so many women were found bleeding, dead, with hangers in their bodies" Let me repeat that, let it sink in, "so many women were found bleeding, dead, with hangers in their bodies". Also not she spoke it with a certain emphasis that can only be reproduced by speaking it out loud.

NOW... what part of this is not appeal to emotion? If "THE POOR BABIES!" is so bad, how is "THE POOR WOMEN!" any better? Now before anyone reading tries to justify this in their mind... no! They skip the point. It's an emotive battle whether it's justified or not. And once you recognize that, you'll learn to stop calling AtEs on the other side. Because the truth is, Pro-choicers use just as many.

My second point is: If we were only allowed to discuss issues we have had deep, personal experience with, we would not have democracy. Period, end of story.

I am ******** tired of this politically correct bull s**t that stresses compassion and love and pat you on the back whenever you're down... The truth is the truth hurts. Whatever the truth is, you have a right to argue your point. This "Have some reverence" is only an attempt to censure the other side.

Thoughts?

What I think is funny is that the blonde chick kind of made a good point. Giving out monatary suppliments to people for having children shouldn't be a blanket hand-out. Some people don't NEED the extra money, and it seems ridiculous to be giving out money to Bill Gates if he has children.

Plus a good deal of abortion are preform because of financial reasons, so yes some extra cash probably would reduce abortions. With that amount, probably not a whole lot, but I'm sure it would reduce them some. At least here in Canada, where medical care is free, it would.

First of all I never cared much for "The View" or Whoopi so I don't bother watching it.

Yes, mostly likely people only give her an applause cause her opinon is "popular" and the "cool" choice.

Many woman have died do to complications from legal abortions but of course they never talk about that.
And noone cares about the all the lives abortion has taken (both the fetus and the mothers).
They only care for it being legal cause it can be a convenice for them.

And even if that lady never been in a position to make that decision, doesn't mean she never will be or that she can't have an opinon.

I never been in that position but I often though it through and how I would handle it if I ever did end up with an unwanted pregnancy.
And i'm sure she as well as also every woman thought about it one time or another and what choices they would make.

Is it just me or did Whoopi just seem rude to the other woman and ignorate to that fact that 1. Many woman do want abortions (it they didn't, they won't get one) and 2. That just because a woman never been in that situation, doesn't mean she doesn't understand or doesn't think about those situations.

Your right, it does seem like another case of emotional appeal.

I have never watched the show. I never really cared for it.

What Elizabeth should have asked Whoopi when she asked if Elizabeth had been in the in that position her replied should have been "have you?" Because if Whoopi hasn't then is her opinion anymore valid than Elizabeth's.

I agree. You don't need to have experience something to have formed an opinion about it.

Figures. Usually they only support abortion cause it's conveniant for them. Just another example.

Oh! I googled it and apparently she's had 6 abortions. confused

If she wants us to revere people who've had abortions, she must count herself a God.

I think I losted even more respect for her. I mean six abortions? Have she ever heard of birth control and protection? I doubt they failed six times.

Woopi is a good actor. Thats all she is. Her public speaking skills are below sub-par. You name me a time when she was publicly speaking and DIDN'T make a joke poking fun at republican's or conservatives. The fact is, her integrity, her meaningfulness, and her public personality has always been something I questioned, but it wont stop me form watching her movies.

If the 6 abortions thing is true, then I feel sorry for her. I pity the fact that this woman who so many time has spoken about integrity, responsibility, and humanity had none of the courage to be any of that...I guess those were nothing more then the characters she played.

Whoopi got applause for making a blatant Appeal to Emotion.

You know, that fallacy that we are always making, apparently... o.o; But of course no one called her on it.

On a side note, I have been a member of this guild for well over two years now, and this was my first post ^^.

I doubt there are six humans on the planet who want to have sex with Whoopi Goldberg.

Maybe there's one blind desperate guy who's super-fertile.

Damn ******** straight.

Also, The View makes me nauseous, no matter what they're babbling about. For about 6 months I worked the morning shift at ABC and I had to watch that tripe DAILY. I was like, NOW can we cut to a commercial? How about now? Is it time for soaps yet? PLEASE?!!?!
