I'm watching a movie, and this deaf girl had a baby (for any of you who want to watch the movie, it's called Johnny Belinda, and I strongly reccomend it).

It got me thinking about when it's that time for me to get married and having children. I have a feeling that it's Heavenly Father's plan that I study ASL because I may have a deaf child.

Does that sound weird to you guys?

Both yes and no. It's weird that you're thinking it, but it's not weird because the spirit is telling you what is going to happen.

It's not weird at all! I had a leader who's husband felt like their first kid would have severe disabilities and he asked if she would be okay with it. Well, he was right, and everything's gone good since then. People get insperation by the weirdest things, some good others bad(ie.I went into the rafters of the school autitorium and I thought this would be a god place to hide a body xp I think I'll put that in a book sweatdrop ) So it's not weird.

nah, people are people. i study japanese, behavioral psychology, and anime. ((that is actual study, i have a textbook on it, i don''t just watch a lot of it)) but as long as the reason makes sense, there shouldn''t be any weird about it. its only weird if you dont'' know why.

absolutly not it makes sense and even if you don't you may end up knowing somebody who is deaf.

I don't think it's weird at all. And even if you don't have a child who is deaf, knowing ASL can still be a good thing. You can become a translator for deaf members at church meetings.

If you have your patriarchal blessing study it to see if it could have some clues about that...but if it doesn't say anything about it, or you don't have it, just go ahead and learn ASL anyway, because it is extremely useful.

I am trying to become fluent in French, just becaus I love it, but I have no idea if I will ever need to use it...French isn't all too common here in the US of A.

Not even a little weird because I have felt the same way a LOT. I am almost sure the Lord has something like that in mind.

Doesn't seem weird at all. I wonder about such things all the time. When I got back from Japan, I was trying to figure out what to do with myself. I went to a career counselor and did a battery of tests. Of the possible jobs listed, "ASL translator" just about jumped off the page. And then suddenly I was running into ASL things everywhere. There was a table raising money for a local deaf association in Wal-mart... and, um, some other things that escape my memory. It really seemed though that suddenly I was surrounded and that this was some kind of sign.

(I ought to have prayed about it but I didn't and eventually decided that the schooling I wouuld have to go through to even get started as an interpreter would take too long. I want to have my first baby before I'm 30 and I didn't think we could make it financially if we were both students. Lately I've been thinking about it again though and regretting lost time.)

Anyway, like I said. I think like that too. Maybe your idea is imagination. Maybe it's inspiration. Only you can decide that for yourself but either way, I understand the thought process. smile

You know, if it prompts you to do something good, it's the spirit talking.
Hey learning another language never hurt anyone. And being able to communicate in Sign is a wonderful thing for those without the gift of hearing.
Remember, the Lord works in mysterious ways.
If you were prompted, go for it!

I am right now having alot of experience waith disabilities in children. I believe it is partly because about a year ago I had no respect for them. Now I understand they are normal humans. I also believe that I will have a "high needs" child. But who knows maybe if I show true repentence and work with the kids I may not have one. Who knows? I guess God does so trust in him.
