so has anyone seen a lot if the same themed shows this year? it seems like a pattern for me watching all of these shows.
well i know that at least were im at there are at least 10 school that have a west side story show. i'm quiet frankly tired of seeing that

I noticed that, too. There are quite a few bands in my area doing West Side Story, as well. I hope next year there's more diversity in the shows.

Yeah, I noticed a lot of West Side Story this year. It was at least the 3rd time one school did it at the county festival I went to.
I like my school's themes a lot, because they're always pretty original...like Coming Attractions and Romeo. Honestly, if we do West Side story, I'll be veeery sad. :[

Yeah...I've seen a billion and one shows on Pirates of the Carribean and some Western ones....
This year our band had a Secret Agent theme.
We played the Pink Panther, Secret Agent Man, The James Bond Theme.

Alot of bands in my district had creepy themes like 'strange humors', 'chaos' and 'deja vu' the first time it was cool but then it got old fast

We did Thrillers of the night.
It was two songs from Phantom
of the Opera, Nightmare before
Christmas, and Thriller.

No "West Side Story" 'round SoCal. However, I must've seen/heard of at least five different bands doing something "James Bond" or "007" themed.

I haven't seen anyone do West Side Story yet in the competitions I've been too.
But I have seen a 007/James Bond/Secret Agent one, xD.
And I've seen alot of rock-themed shows.
But I can't talk about them because we did a Jazz show this year. ^^;
I hope we do something next year that's different from the one's we've seen, but isn't too out there.

A couple years ago at a competition, 4 bands IN A ROW had Pirates of the Caribbean.

We had a superhero theme this year.
The Incredibles/Batman/Superman/X-Men/Spiderman and/Soul Man ( xD )

In '04 nearly every band had Pirates. We did it last year, when everyone else had done it already. biggrin
As for why you're all seeing Westside Story (which was my show, by the way), it's the 50th anniversary of the musical or something like that. That's part of the reason we did it, that and it ROCKS!!! Les Miserables will always be my favorite, but I really did enjoy Westside Story.

On facebook there was one guy in our band who started "I marched in the last MB show that had an actual theme at our school" because for the past two years, our shows have had no theme. Then there was the disaster show that no one talks about, but people were arguing about whether or not it was a theme. So one guy wrote something like:
That show was not a theme, it was a bad idea. There is a simple difference between themes and bad ideas. Themes actually make sense and turn out well. That show was classified as a bad idea, if it's even considered a show. An easy way to tell the difference is that themes don't come out of Craig's (our BD) head. Only bad ideas do. Which is why our shows suck.
It's so true.

We did west side story this year D:
at most of the competitions that we went to, there was at least 1 other band playing west side story. xp
