Okay, we've got basically twelve weeks to do this for my English class, so that's plenty of time.

My assignment is to read a book (or a few books) of literary merit before 1950. I don't have my list with me right now, but can you guys come up with good, yet unheard-of, books that I could swallow within a reasonable time?

Sorry, I'm out of it. Too much staring at the computer screen.

Could be wrong, but wasn't that about Tolkien time?

Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, and What Alice Found There are both from the 1800's ('65 and '71 respectively), and are both very great books. I highly recommend them.

Does it really have to be unheard of? If not, how about Shakespeare. Mac Beth, Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet for his more popular selection. Or the bible!

Off the subject of books before 1950, Logan's Run is a great book, as well as movie, if you can get a hold of a copy. Of the book that is.

H G Wells and Jules Vern would be good choices.

Check out "www.caderbooks.com" you can search, by year, for the bestsellers. I did Google, and for example "1950 bestsellers" was my search quote, and this site (caderbooks) was the first option. Narrow your search from there. Good Luck, English Class is brutal (in a "I'm suffering but I know its good for me" kinda way)!!!
