I know that I'm showing my age here (as if I bother hiding that anyway), but does anyone else know who I'm talking about?

The Wilburys put out two albums -- Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1 in 1988 and The Traveling Wilburys Vol. 3 in 1990. No, there was never a Vol. 2. However, Full Moon Fever, which came out in 1989, is sometimes given honorary status as a second Wilbury album, as four out of five Wilburys contributed to the project -- Tom Petty (of course), George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, and Roy Orbison. Only Bob Dylan had conflicting obligations.

See, I knew most of you would know who the Wilburys were, even if you've never heard of their band.

Anyway, their albums have been out of print for years, but Rhino released a set earlier this year with both records (each with two previously unreleased tracks that've been circulating via bootlegs for the past fifteen or so years) and a DVD of their music videos and The True History of the Traveling Wilburys, a behind-the-music bit. Which I picked up at Target yesterday for $25 (after a fruitless search for a Gaia cash card). ^^

And for anyone who'd like to hear Handle With Care from the first album:

  1. Make sure you have iTunes, because this is in m4a (not mp3) format
  2. Check the calendar -- it'll only stay up until November 3rd
  3. Go here. It's good for ten downloads!

Of course, if it's reached that limit or a week has gone by, I'll upload again if someone wants. mrgreen
