Dearest guild:

I just bought a shiny Zippo lighter with silver finish. Am I cool? (y/n)

Also, think there is any way I can make it into a delicious piece of magical equipment, or involve it in a ritual or somesuch?

Also, I have, at this point in my life, smoked three cigarettes. I know cancer and addiction, so obviously I'm not gonna kill myself, but I just had to after going through the brainwashy dumbass health class in high school. So I won't as a habit, but perhaps someone has an idea for a magical use. Should be pretty easy, they alter conciousness, are alluring and attractive while being dangerous, and are a form of sacrifice. The moments of life and lung function you use up when smoking you can never get back, and that's morbidly facinating, and seems to have a certain sort of power.

Thoughts, anyone?

I like fire... So Fire would probably be my focus for rituals involving lighters.

Anything can be used. Personally... I would probably use symbols. I usually use fire in rituals involving summoning because it gives the spirits I summon something to use to show influence through. The ambient energy from the flame can help.

Also trying to send influence out through flames may work. The slow smolder of the burn the release of energy in a way of your choosing.

I mean its your will you can bend anything to it in a sense. Its your will tell me what you Want to do with it. What desires you have and I can better come up with what your asking for.

[offtopic]ZOMG ENVY. I've been eying the Zippo lighters when I see them in stores. Soooooo tempted to buy one, even though I do not and have no real intentions to smoke. Lol, I have asthma. Anyway, there was this one sexy lighter I found and I want to buy it so bad. It looks like a gun, and it has two functions. One, is your typical lighter mode, but the other function is like the teeny torch style lighters you can get that make the cute little hissing noise when you ignite them. whee

Anyway, my inner pyromaniac demanded that I rant about lighters and how awesome they are. [/offtopic]

Well, as I've said before, cigarettes could be used with regards to offering them as a sacrifice to nature. Yanno, just empty the tobacco out of them and use the tobacco as the sacrifice..Mind you, that's also an effective waste of a fair amount of money, as cancer sticks aren't exactly cheap..

Yeah. And I must admit, at least to me, the company mystique has caught me up, and I think wandering the streets at 3 am, in a trench coat, smoking a cigarette is cool, and so I have done so. Nicotine highs are kinda fun and loopy. It's just it tastes like absolute s**t and gives you a itch/tickle in the back of your throat that makes you cough a lot. So, positives and negatives. Not counting cancer.

You can get back some lung capacity after giving up smoking for a long time, actually. I keep this in mind so I can ruin myself now and heal it by the time I'm older. ninja

I don't know how many cigarettes I've smoked in my life, but if I take the average of 20 - 40 a week (my usual, sometimes it's higher) then I've smoked.... 4160 - 8360 cigarettes in my life so far. Which is quite shameful, really.

As for a Zippo? I have a silver Jack Daniels one.

Yeah, your lungs will work better if you stop. But I do believe the alveoli, the little lung sacks that move most of the oxygen, if stuck open or closed, as happens with smoking, they stay that way and do not recover. So each cigarette is a little bit of permanent damage, though.

I don't remember how it gets better, though. Probably the classes I had focused on smoking being the devil's evil child or some such.

I know tobacco has a few folk magic uses.

Gender: Masculine
Planet: Mars
Element: Fire
Powers: Healing, Purification

a) Candidates for some shamanic systems must drink tobacco juice to induce visions as part of their training.

b) South American Indians smoke tobacco to allow them to converse with spirits.

c)Tobacco is also thrown into the river when beginning a journey by boat to propitiate the river gods.

d)Burning tobacco as an incense purifies the area of all negativity and spirits (both good and bad).

e) To cure earaches, tobacco smoke is blown into the ear.

f) If you have nightmares they may cause sickness. To prevent this, immediately upon waking wash in a running stream and throw tobacco into the water as an offering to the Water Spirit who has cleansed you of the evil.

g) Tobacco is a magical substitutes for sulphur, as well as for datura and nightshade, both of which are related to tobacco.

h) Although it is regularly smoked by millions, tobacco is a very poisonous plant and can kill.

Yeah, it's funny that you can do healing magic with it, but if you smoke it you might die (early).

I'd recommend weed over cigs, but not officially. Because that would be condoning something that is against the law. Drugs are bad. Mkay. neutral

I have a theory that cigs are MUCH worse for you than weed.

EDIT: I know this is off-topic, but I'm wary about any kind of energywork done while drunk or high. I mean, usually I think I can sing better than normal while drunk, when it's of course the total opposite. xd

Man, I'm just getting farther and farther away from the original subject. sweatdrop

Not only is it a good theory, but it's fairly simple to prove.

Of various hundreds of chemicals that the tobacco companies add to their cigs, it adds and adds to the lethality of them. However weed is a bit more...pure, grown as a plant, and thats it...no added chemicals, no Nair-like chemicals, and far less addicting.
