A short, strong looking man strode into the classroom. He had long, wavy hair that was ebony colored, and his eyes were a rich brown, almost like the color of coffee. As he stood before the class, he smiled and then took out his wand and pointed it towards the chalk board. After he muttered a simple charm, the piece of chalk flew up and began writing something. When the piece of chalk finally went back into it's original spot, the board clearly read 'Basic Charms Class: Lesson 2'. "Welcome back students, or for those of you only showing up now, welcome to charm class." he smiled and then pointed his wand at a piece of parchment hanging on the wall. "As most of you remember, last lesson I gave out a paper which had the class rules on it. Seeing as how some of you didn't attend, I feel I am obligated to read them allowed so everyone understands." Kirk began reading the rules off the list, he made sure his voice was loud and crystal clear. As he finished up on the last rule, he put his wand away and turned back to face his class. "Before we begin on lesson 2, i'd just like to say how dissapointed I was last week. Half of the class passed, and half failed. Most students didn't even bother to show. Now to those of you who received a Troll, I'd like to say right now that I don't want an excuse. As a student it is your responsibility to show up ontime for every class. Now if you were in the hospital wing, thats different, but any other reason to me is un-acceptable." as he scanned the class, he still noted a few empty desks. This disappointed him greatly. "Anyone who fails to show up for two lessons, it doesn't matter if it's in a row or spread apart, they will be dropped from my class." Kirk stood silently for a moment, he wanted people to take in what he had just said before moving on. "Now then, lets begin shall we?" as he took out his wand, Prof. McConnelly once again turned towards the board. He quickly erased the class name, and began magically writing todays lesson plan. As he finished up with the seventh years, he walked over to his desk ant took a seat. "Just like last lesson, i'd like for you all to read about the charms i've listed for your year, and then I want you to practice them until you have perfected them, or class is over. Whichever comes first. If you need help, i'm at my desk, or you may look to an older student." With that said, he began reading the daily prophet. ((Just pretend to read the information, seeing as how I honestly don' have something that elaborate prepared. Maybe I will next lesson.))

Lesson 2
Please find your year, and practice the spells i've listed.
I'd like it if you could practice one spell in each post. That way you have a min of 3 posts for each lesson. You are allowed to practice as much as you want, just try not to practice a spell from a previous lesson, while we're working on the current lesson.
Lastly, I will be walking around the classroom and observing as you perform these spells. If you need help please don't hesitate to ask. You may also get help from fellow students, no matter what year they're in. The important thing is for you to learn the spell correctly.
First Years
Belleflamos Azures - (Bell-eh-flame-ohs A-zh-res) Belleflamos Azures, also known as "Bluebell Flames" is a spell that can be used in order to distract someone in a duel (or in general). When cast properly, you will send a quantity of bright blue flames soaring towards your opponent, or wherever you want it to go. Items Needed: Your Wand. How to perform this spell: Point your wand at your opponent (or in this case in whatever direction you're standing) and when ready, confidently say the incantation.
Lumos - (LOO-mos) Lumos is a great spell. When cast, it causes a small beam of light to shine from the end of your wand. Items Needed: Your Wand How to perform this spell: Hold your wand infront of you and when ready, confidently say the incantation.
Nox - (noks) While Lumos creates a small beam of light at the tip of your wand, Nox does the opposite. Meaning, when cast, Nox will extinguish the light on your wand. Items Needed: Your Wand How to perform this spell: After casting Lumos, confidently say the incantation and your wand light should go out.
Second Years
Four Point Spell - (Point Me) The four point spell works exactly as a compass. When cast properly it will point north. Items Needed: Your Wand. How to perform this spell: In order to cast it, you must place the wand on the open palm of the caster, and when the words "Point Me" are spoken, the wand rotates to point north.
Madidus - (mah-DEE-dus) Madidus aka the "Cushioning Charm" will create an invisible "pillow" on the handle of a broom. This helps make flying more comfortable. Items Needed: Your Wand and a Broom from the cabinet. How to perform this spell: Set your broom infront of you. Then point your wand towards it and calmly say the incantation. Afterwards, pick up your broom and position yourself as if you'rre going to use it to fly. If you can feel the cusion, then you've done the spell correctly.
Placement Charm - (pah-doe poe-see-tus) When this spell is cast correctly, it will cause the desired object to move itself automatically, to a specified place. Items Needed: Your wand, and any item you want from the cabinet. How to perform this spell: Point your wand towards the object, think of where you want said object to go, and then recite the incantation.
Third Years
Sealing Charm - (adop-air-ee-oh) This spell can seal a roll of parchment with a touch of the wand. Items Needed: Your wand and a piece of parchment How to perform this spell: First, fold or roll the parchment, then point your wand at the paper and recite the incantation. As you are saying the last bit of the spell, touch the parchment with your wand.
Unbreakable Charm - (in-vict-US) This spell does exactly what it's name says. It makes an object unbreakable. Items Needed: Your wand and a random object How to perform this spell: As usual, point your wand at the object and recite the spell. Once you've finished, toss the item or attempt to break it. Use Reparo if the charm didn't work.
Waddiwasi - (wah-di-WAH-see) To be quite honest, this spell shoots a wad of stuck gum, out of a keyhole. Items Needed: Your wand, a stick of gum, and a door. The door can be any within the classroom. Just take turns performing this spell. How to perform this spell: Chew the gum, stick it within the keyhole of the door, and then point your wand and recite the spell.
Fourth Years
Reducio - (re-DOO-see-oh) This charm reduces the size of an object until it is back to it's original size. This charm doesn't decrease the size of random objects though, infact it only works when it's used on an item that has been enlarged with the charm Engorgio. Items Needed: Your wand, and an item you recently performed Engorgio on. How to perform this spell: Point your wand at the object, concentrate, and recite the incantation.
Engorgio - (en-GOR-gee-oh) Unlike the Reducio charm, Engorgio causes the object to increase in size. How much it increases depends upon how well you cast it. Note that when you use this on an object, it will not return to it's normal size until the counterspell Reducio has been cast. Items Needed: Your wand and a random object (preferably a non-living object) How to perform this spell: Point your wand at the object, concentrate, and recite the incantation.
Finite - (fi-NEE-tay) Finite is a charm that stops most spells that is currently in effect. So say you are in a duel and someone casts a spell upon you, you can use Finite to get out of it. A good example of this spell would be from quite a few years ago, when a man named Lupin used it to take the Tarantallegra Hex off of our Herbology professor, Neville Longbottom. Items Needed: Your Wand How to perform this spell: I will cast the spell Flagrate, then you need to use Finite to make the words disappear. As usual, point your wand, concentrate and recite the incantation.
Fifth Years
Defensive Charge (no incantation) Unlike other spells, Defensive Charge requires no incantation. It's a charge similar to electricity that runs through the body of a wizard. When you're in danger, your body will automatically perform this defensive spell. Because of this, you will not need to practice this one, instead I just want you to know of it Items Needed: None How to perform this spell: You don't. Seeing as how it's a natural reaction that your body produces, all you can do for this spell is simply write it down in your notes.
Fur Spell (pell-ee-oh) This spell causes your opponent to grow fur. While it has no real use in the real world, it could in the very least be humorous. Items Needed: Your wand and a doll from the cabinet How to perform this spell: Point your wand at your opponent (in this case the doll), concentrate, and recite the spell.
Inanimatus Conjurus (in-an-i-MAH-tus con-JUR-us) When cast properly, this spell will give you the ability to conjur inanimate objects. Items Needed: Your wand How to perform this spell: Point your wand, think of an object you want to conjur, and recite the incantation.
Sixth Years
Aparecium (a-par-EE-see-um) With this spell, you can make invisible ink become visible again. It's great for those of you who like to snoop in your older siblings diary/journal. Though I wouldn't recommend using it for that. Items Needed: Your wand, and a piece of parchment from ontop of my desk. (There is a stack of papers that are all blank, or so they seem. Each has a hidden message.) How to perform this spell: Point your wand at the parchment, concentrate and then recite the incantation. (Make up the message)
Liberacorpus (lee-ber-ah-COR-pus) This is the counter-jinx to Levicorpus. So when you, a friend, or an opponent are being dangled upside-down by your ankles, you can use this spell to release them from the spell. Items Needed: Your wand, and a doll from the cabinet. How to perform this spell: First cast Levicorpus on the doll. Then point your wand at it and recite the counter jinx.
Protean Charm (PRO-tee-an) This complex spell will link two or more objects together, so that when one object changes shape/color...etc the others will change to match it. In the past, Harry and his fellow classmates used this charm on fake galleons, so that they could use it to secretly tell members of the D.A. when to meet. Items Needed: Your wand and two matching objects from the cabinet. How to perform this spell: Point your wand at the items, recite the charm. Once your done, use a spell to change one of the items appearance. Some examples would be Engorgio or the furr spell.
Seventh Years
Obliviate (oh-BLI-vee-ate) This spell can modify or erase portions of a person's memory. It all depends on what your intentions are. Items Needed: Your wand How to perform this spell: Point your wand at the person in question, think of what you want to happen, and recite the spell. Note: Since this spell is rather dangerous to perform on a partner, i'll be having you use these "clones" i've created. Each is meant to look identical to you. While they act like they are live, they really aren't. However, when you cast this spell upon them, they will react in the same way any living person would
7th years and 5th years have fewer spells to perform this lesson. 7th years only have 1, and 5th years have 2 spells to learn, but 1 spell to simply take notes on. I still expect 3 posts from both years. Once your finishd perfecting your spells, you can help other students.
Homework
Due: November 04, 2007
A few things to note: All questions can be answered by reading through this lessons list of spells. Even if you haven't learned the spells the question is asking about, it's not that hard to look in your "text book" to find out. So I don't want any excuses like "But I didn't learn that spell, i'm only a first year and that spell was for a 7th year so I coudn't answer the question".
1.) Which spell has no incantation, and it is automatically performed by a wizards body when they're in danger?
2.) True or False - Liberacorpus is a spell that will dangle your opponent by their ankle?
3.) What does the spell Madidus do?
4.) What is the counterspell for Lumos?
5.) What spell can modify or erase a persons memory?
6.) What spell did Lupin use in order to help Neville?
7.) The incantation "Adoperio" goes with what charm?
When you've completed your assignment, please post it in the "Charms Homework" thread in the subforum labelled "professor offices". Make sure you include the following:
Name, House, Year, Date, and finally the assignment.
:Note: This assignment isn't required, however anyone who does complete it (correctly) will get extra credit and some house points.

Somewhere between walking and running, already thinking she was late, Sira entered the classroom and after nodding at the professor in a way of a greeting, she sat where she had before.
Looking at the chalkboard, she read about the spells she had to do this time. In the last lesson she had managed to do two out of three, not too shabby, but maybe this time she could outdo herself.
The first spell of all, Belleflamos Azures, sounded fun... as blue was her favourite color. Out of her schoolbag came the wand and the charms textbook. As she placed the wand on the table, Sira began to focus on what she had to do. The figured that the more concentrated she was, the less tries there would be for the spell to work.
At least, in theory, that sounded about right...

Entering the classroom, Kani felt much more in control than the previous week. Her workload and duties were more orderly and considerably less in amount. Allowing her to let the tension, in her shoulders, go.
Spotting a classmate already hard at work, Kani silently set her bag on the desk behind the girl. Her hands roamed the may folds and pockets hidden within her Ravenclaw robes, in search of her wand. Finally locating the slim piece of wood, she withdrew it.
'Hm, let's see....' Her mind wandered as she read and reread the instructions. Upon reading the many spells, some appearing difficult, Kani decided to start the lesson with the simplest of the three. The Aparecium incantation.
Walking up to the professor's desk, Kani took a single sheet of black parchment. She paused momentarily to greet Professor McConnelly with a polite smile and words of hello. Then she set off, back to her seat.
Standing before the table, Kani neatly placed the sheet on it's cool surface. Then, repeating the incantation in her head till she was certain she knew it by heart, Kani drew in a small breath.
"A-par-EE-see-um."
Threads of magic weaved through the air and landed upon the darkened paper. After a few moments, Kani was sure that something went astray, until a short message scrawled across the parchment.
"When two things are as opposite as the Earth and the sky, you just need a rainbow to connect them." Kani smiled softly at the meaning behind the saying.
'It seems the professor ment to teach me more than one lesson with this spell.' She deducted, before turning back to the instructions for her next directions.
((Haha, I absolutelly adore that saying >< I found it in a manga I was reading recently...and what better way to share it than this!))

Kinzo walked into the classroom at a faster pace than usual. I'm not late? She had a bad habit of sleeping in, or spending too much time chattering with her friends in the hall. "Guess I got lucky..." the witch murmured as she pulled some parchment, quills, ink, and her wand out. She took copious notes from the writing on the board and then began practicing. She decided to begin with Wadiwassi. Interesting idea for a spell. She grebbed a piece of gum and after chewing it into a nice pliable wad she stuck it into the keyhole of one of the doors nearby. "Okay, let's go," she said, getting herself calmed and prepared. "Wadawashi!" the Slytherin aid, in a louder tone. "Okay, that certainly didn't work." She glared slightly at the gum, despite knowing it was her own fault. "Wah-di-wah-see!" she spoke, again, hoping to pronounce the word correctly. The gumm was squished slightly, as if pushed a little. Well, that's something. Kinzo continued to practice, hoping she might get it right.

Naida nervously came into class, she had practically failed last time and was scared of class again. But she had skimmed through her textbook and recognized two of the spells from her reading. She decided to start with those.
She held out her wand, and tentivaley tried to pronounce the spell "Lu-moss" Her wand did nothing. She knew she was saying it wrong. She looked back at the blackboard and tried again. "Lu-mos." Her wand tried to light up, but her own inhibitions about spell casting were holding her back. "Lu-mos." She said again, resulting in a breif moment of glowing and then it faded. "Lumos!" She demanded of her wand getting more than frustrated and then - it lit up! She actually jumped with joy. It was very exciting to actually get the spell so quickly.
Now... to extinguish it...

Gabriel walked in confidently into the class room and stopping only long enough to read what was on the board.
"That looks interest.." He said quietly, as he picked the spell on top of the list to start with. Finding an empty space of wall, he stood a few feet away from it and started practicing the incantation. Soon, he pointed the wand at the wall and said "BELLEFLAMOS AZURES" and from the tip of the wand a very great ammount of very blue and very bright sparks shot out from it.
Gabriel frowned. That wasn't supposed to happen was it? If it was, then it was a rather weak distraction. Unless the plan was to make the opponent laugh into submission. It probably would work too. Looking around confused he saw that what really happened was that he had failed horribly at casting it.
Focusing more now, he kept on trying but nothing more than sparks came out, a bit later on though he did manage to it as he said the spell angrily again and a single blue and brilliant bolt, very much liquid flame shot out and splattered majestically against the wall.
--------------------------
Eric came in late as usual, his hair was still messy, his shirt untuck and the tie wasn't tied very proprely either. And as if that wasn't enough he still had half a sandwich in his mouth. Apoligizing to teacher for being late, he gulped down the rest of the food, tried to fix his outfit and proceed to read the contents of the board.
Spotting one that seemed easy. He went to the cabinet and picked up the giant blue rabbit again. "Levicorpus!" He said, yet it didn't float as trying to speak a spell with food in your mouth doesn't really help. Hurrying up with the chewing, Eric tried it again, making it rise feet first into the air.
Quickly he reread the spell on the board, the counter was almost identical! He just pointed the wand at it and recited "Liberacorpus." Making it land again.

Naida watched Gabriel out of the corner of her eye while totally pretending to be interested in her lit-up wand. He was just too cool. She was saving that spell for last, but it was the first one he tried. She was almost jealous, but had other things to do.
She looked at her lit-up wand and decalred "Nocks!" At it, the light flickered but then came back. "Nocks! Nocks!" Again, the same reaction. Her stupid wand was making a fool of her. Finally, she slurred it, "Noks!" and the light flickered and then went out. She smiled, yes!
Just to make sure she had them down, she held out her wand again. "Lumos!" And the wand lit up. "Nox!" And sure enough, it went out. She was getting the hang of this afterall.

Finally, after a while of "deep concentration", Sira got up and raised her wand. Pointing it directly in front of her, at no one in particular, she commanded it.
"Bel--"
But it died out before she finished the charm. Seeing how those around her were successfully performing their spells made her unsure of how well she'd do.
She breathed in, and then back out; heavily.
"Belleflamos azures!"
Light blue flames sprouted from the tip of her wand, and, much to her delight, were sent flying towards where she had pointed. Both surprised and captivated at the result, she repeated it one more time, mostly for fun, but also to make sure she could actually do it properly.

Kiandra walked into the classroom, taking a seat next to her sister. She smiled at Naida, then began taking out her text book, parchment and a quill. As she jotted down the notes for todays lesson, she decided to start with Lumos. She felt it would be good for her to go in the same order as her sister, just incase she needed help...and from the look of the last spell she attempted, she would definately need a hand.
Kiandra stayed in her seat for a moment as she practiced saying the spell first. "Luh-mos, No that isn't quite right....How about Loo-mos. Closer, maybe if I try it one more time, LOO-mos!" the last time she said it, she knew that was correct. "Alright, time to practice!" she excitedly said to no one in particular.
As Kiandra stood up, she held her wand out infront of her, and with a calm, clear, and rather confident voice she said "Lumos!". The wand instantly lit up. She knew this would most likely infuriate her sister, especially since she had probably struggled with it. However, it didn't bother her. She was gifted in charms, like her sister was gifted in divinations.
"Now...to put it out" she said, and then looked down at her text book for the next spell.

Professor Kirk McConnelly stood up from his desk and began making his rounds. He wanted to help the students who needed it, and praise the ones who had completed the specified spells. As he neared Naida, he smiled. Her determination was inspiring.
"Very nice work Naida! Keep it up. With practice, you could be great at charms" he nodded at her, and then walked away to find more students.
He walked over to another student whom he felt was doing quite well. "I see you've figured out the message, Kanita. Very nice. Keep up the good work" he smiled at her, and then wandered over to Eric.
"Nice job, next time please make sure you come into class ontime, and without a mouthfull of food" He nodded and walked away. This boy definately had talent, but he needed to be more punctual if he wanted to succeed in this class.
Professor Kirk continued walking around. Stopping occassionally to tell the student they were doing a good job, or to keep practicing. He was rather proud of his class, each student had determination and quite a talent for charms.

"Thank you professor!" Kani felt more confident, with the compliment from Professor McConnelly. But her stomach grumbled as she overheard the word 'food.' Shoving the ache at the pit of her stomach away, Kani finished reading her next task.
After gathering the materials needed for the Liberacorpus spell, Kani proceeded to place the doll on her seat. She stood with her feet firmly planted and wand raised towards the rag doll.
"Levicorpius...Levanticorus...no.Lev-levi, drat." Kani chastized herself under her breath. She continued to search her memories, back to the previous lesson. Really, it wasn't that long ago, but her thoughts were all jumbled.
A few minutes later, almost ready to just move on to the 3rd spell, it finally came to her.
"That's it!!" She shouted, then lowered her voice sheepishly, hoping she didn't interrupt anyone's concentration. Quickly muttering the primary spell -Levicorpus- Kani watched as the dolly was tugged upside down by an invisible force. She had to resist the urge to punch her fists into the air. The triump was a simple one, not anything to be estatic over.
Moving on, Kani Flicked her wand and let the counter spell slip from her lips. They came with more ease than she assumed,
"Lee-ber-ah-COR-pus." And the rag doll flopped back to it's original state.. Kani smiled with relief, thankful to be almost through with her assignments. But the smile quickly dropped to the floor as she prepared herself for the final spell. The most difficult of the three.

Naida beemed and mumbled "Thank you" to the professor but she seriously doubted she would be any good at this. She watched with jealousy as her sister got the spells so easily. But she needed to not get distracted! Now it was time to work on the hardest of the spells, and others were already causing the blue flames without incident. Now it was her turn to ... well ... she needed to get through it.
She took a few decisive steps backward and aimed at the table. "Bell-a... flam-e... ohs... a-zur... es." She had absolutely confidence, and it was obvious. She took a breath between what seemed like every two syllables. It was choppy and ... downright horrible. What's worse is that she stumbled over it like that time and time again. Just getting more and more frustrated.

Sira read the description of the next charm she had to practice. Confidence was a key element in casting it, as in others, and that she seemed to be full of; at least today.
"This seems... doable", she thought, looking at the board. Tightening her fist around the wand, Sira raised her hand in the air. Flicking her head back, she swished her hair away from her face so that it wouldn't fall in front of her eyes and, with as much self-reliance as the spell required, she let the words slide from her mouth:
"Lumos!"
The tip of her wand quickly went from a pale glow to a strong, although small, light beam. Sira smiled, proudly. Looking around, others seemed to be doing great as well, some even praised by the professor.
The environment around her was so captivating that Charms was quickly becoming her favourite class.
