I'm going in my very first comp in just over a week.
Any tips?
It's karate, non-contact, point sparring. Also kata.
I've never competed in a competition, I've never even seen one. So I'm pretty clueless. Also, I train in contact sparing. All I know: - head: 3 pts - torse: 2 pts - step off mat: opponant gains a pt (3rd time disqualifid) - draw blood: disqualified - take downs are allowed - 6pts and you win
Results are down the page a bit (around 5th post I think)

I've only done competition sparring a few times in my martial arts carrer, it's not my favorite. Mostly I stick to Musical and Traditional Kata, and Musical Weapons.
I can't really help you with the sparring bit, but with Kata:
Be LOUD. Be sharp. Make sure you know ALL the little details, i.e. foot positioning, hand chambering, finger positioning, etc. Look at every judge in the eye when you're introducing yourself.
And don't be too nervous. You'll most likely go up first if you've never been to a tournament before. You'll have fun! XD
Let us know what you place!

My results:
Kata: 4th I think (might have been 5th - they didn't say results after 3rd). I scored and average around 7.7 I was that nervous erforming in front of over 200 people that I sped up and didn't put pauses into the kata.
Sparring: Second last. I had NO idea what I was doing rofl if it was continuous sparring I probably would've done a lot better.
Weaponry: I had my bo in the car, so thought I might as well. Even though I hadn't done any weaponry in weeks. I came 2nd!! I scored an average of 8.1 (winner had an average of 8.2).
For my very first comp I'm happy. Now that I know how to spar in competitions, I will probably do a lot better last time. I had my guard high all the time when I was in close because was used to continuous sparring. So my opponant kept scoring points by getting me in the stomach. So need to lower it more next time, but then they'll pobably score head points.

Tell them that they're faggots for not doing continuous sparring

How can you say that? I mean just watch Olympic TKD.. The way the stand there with their hands down twitching.. If they dont have any guard whatsoever they surely have to be like teh deadly? As far as I understand it, is long as you touch them first you always win the fight. it doesn't matter if your strike is a simple brush the toes over their belly, and there's is a massive haymaker that take your head off. First in is WINNAR everytime.. rofl
