No, not the John Travolta movie, although that was a pretty neat movie. I just saw a promo on TV for this new show. NBC.com Premieres Wednesday, October 24 8/7c New LIVE competition that will blow your mind! PHENOMENON Mystifier/artist Criss Angel ("Criss Angel MINDFREAK") and famed mentalist Uri Geller will host this mysterious live competition series in which they will conduct an intensive search for the next great mentalist. The series tests 10 hopeful mentalists who must compete each week to demonstrate a wide spectrum of mystifying talents for a panel of weekly celebrity guests and a studio audience. Geller and Angel will assess the contestants but ultimately the winner's fate will be determined by the viewers at home. In addition to voting, each episode will also contain an interactive component to engage the at home audience. In the television commercial they make it seem a lot more "mystical" than they do in the written description. I'm still trying to figure out if it's supposed to be a competition for people claiming to have paranormal abilities or if it's just for "mentalists". The TV segment I saw on it was a little misleading in that respect. Comments? Note: I plan to post this in various places.

Well, sounds okay, but since it is going to be decided by people at home, voting in, it's going to end up to be little about if the people are actually real about it or not. But still, Criss Angel FTW. Gonna DVR the show anyways. Tivo is ghey.

O n y x lol that's hilarious, it'll sure be interesting. I wonder what kind of tests they'll do... From what I gather, each contestant has their own special thing that they do. I doubt there are any scientific tests done.

The season finale, when that guy said he wasn't risking his life, I just turned it off, watched a re-run of House, I think. >< That's the only reason why I watch; to see people get hurt. On live T.V.

KingJack! The season finale, when that guy said he wasn't risking his life, I just turned it off, watched a re-run of House, I think. >< That's the only reason why I watch; to see people get hurt. On live T.V. That's probably not the most healthy reason to watch a show. And why would you want to watch a random guy be killed live on tv? It's kind of sick. Plus do you really think the stuff you're watching on any major network isn't scripted in some way shape or form?

I think that every network has implemented the five second lag on their live broadcasts anyway. That way if something horrible does happen they can just cut to black so no one will see it. I'm a firm believer in that you won't see someone die for real on television. It's just not going to happen with all the safeguards.

I think you're right about the lag time...though I'm not sure that cutting to black is better than seeing what happened. It implies that something pretty bad has happened anyhow. But over all I agree it would be unlike to see someone die on live tv, unless they were broadcasting an execution or something similar. And how did phenomenon end up anyhow? The time it was on conflicted with a show of my bf's so I didn't see it, but did you find it entertaining?

It was entertaining at times, but nothing completely mind blowing. Mike Super ended up winning it, and it turns out that he actually visited my girlfriend's campus a few months ago and she has a t-shirt signed by him. I thought that was pretty neat. I think she has a picture of him hugging her too. But yeah, I thought it was entertaining, but there definitely wasn't anything supernatural. Just a bunch of mentalism and illusion.
