This idea came to me the other day when I was remembering some of the debates we had in an old High School class of mine. One was about animals and if they had souls and feelings or not.

I personally believe they do. I can tell when my two cats are hungry or afraid of something or angry. My cats hiss at me when they don't like the fact that I touched their tail or their paws. They circle around my feet when I'm in the kitchen which lets me know that they are hungry. And I can tell when they are scared when they get low to the ground and start running to find a place to hide like down in the basement or under my parent's bed when there's a thunder storm going on outside.

I know that they can feel pain as well after once or twice when I was younger I stepped on one cat's foot on accident and she did a high meow noise and got away from me.

There were a few people in my old class that said they didn't think animals had feelings. That there was no way that we could ever understand what they want or mean by something.

I disagree. Sure there are things animals do that are strange like when my cats roll around on their backs in the grass outside when they are on their leashes. But then there are actions like meowing or the hissing that tells us how they are feeling. They may not speak like humans, but they can speak and communicate in different ways that we have learned to catch on and understand.

Discuss:
Do you think animals have feelings or not and why?

Yes,I do believe that animals have feelings. To me they arent that different from humans, they might not have the same intelligence but they have something else...I think humans ares stupid to believe that they ares supperior.

Animals have feelings like humans do. they may not express it like we do but they still do. Humans show feeling different than animals, but some people may think that they don't cuz they can't tell. Well some humans are stupid like that!

as far as them having emotions its a yes.
but depending on how they were raised (in the wild or by owners) they will express them differently.
you can tell that they have emotion by looking at any abused animal case.
after a traumatic experience the pet (lets just use dogs) the pet will remember it. The dog would learn from that experience as well.
but thedog will assign negative feelings with this exprience. so since the animals can do this, i think that they have emotion.

I think animals do.

When my dog is hungry, he follows my mom around, or sniffs his dog bowl. Which tells me that I should feed him, or atleast put food in his bowl.
When he is thristy, he pants and his tongue is halfway down his face.

When he is scared he wines, and makes this high pitch sound. And there are alot of reasons, animals are like people, animals might think that humens are animals, or such.

Well, They hiss or growl when you hurt them, bark or meow when they want attention, they hurt when they're in pain, and they always show affection.

If they didn't have feelings, I could go outside right now and just kick my dog and he wouldn't do anything but sit there and just look at me. No, he would flinch, and scurry away.

So yeah. I'm a firm believer they have feelings xD

If you ever run into anyone from your old class that didn't think animals could talk, ask them if they know what body language is. Humans use it, too, after all.

I think animals are just as smart as we are. They just focus their energies on different things. Like keeping their species alive, instead of killing each other.

Of course animals have feelings. But I'm not sure whether or not they have souls.... because, well, I don't believe anyone can really say what a soul is. There is much to be learned. ninja

I believe animals have feelings. I guess just how they're depth of portraying them could cause some other thought (or out of "superiority" sort of thought), but they have them still.

I feel animals who bear young like the human race do have feeling a mother lon will kill if her cub is threaten by humans. Go example the movie Orca , about a whale who finds the man who killd his mate searches the ocean to get revenge in he end the whale gets the man. I truly beleive the creator gave animals the instinct or survial as well as emotional ties to their families.
