As I expected, most of you did watch the first chapter of Book 3: Fire. Yet, I can't help but think that Mai's bold move was out of character. Unless she changed from the shy, little girl that would blush around Zuko when they were younger, I think that it was out of character. That kiss was hot, I'll admit that but it came outta nowhere!
Another thought: Did Zuko actually kiss back or was it just one of those "Yeah, you're kissing me but I got a lot on my mind right now" kisses? I wanna hear your opinions! 3nodding

Now that they are a couple she doesnt have to be shy anymore. He kissed back, I believe, but it wasnt like "z0mg tutale hawt" kisses more like a "i lurv j00 lets make out!!1"
Not really out of character.

Yeah. They are a couple now, but if the magazine's comic was true about how they hooked up, it was with bad intentions. It's good that they both rekindled their childhood crushes, but Azula put them together so that Zuko would leave Bai Sing Se, although the real reason he left was for Uncle Iroh.

Although the kiss was sweet, Zuko didn't really look like he wanted to be bothered at the time. Now in the trailer for the whole third season, he looks like he's happy when they kiss.

i was in SHOCK eek i thought it was TOTALLY out of character. I mean WHEN did he like Mai? and when did Mai get the guts to just kiss him like that? And when Azula kinda hinted that Mai liked him, Zuko really didnt seem to care. I feel that Zuko only let Mai kiss him b/c he WAS kinda vulnerable at the time and he prob just didnt give a crap anymore

Well, what if Mai is doing that b'c Azula wanted her to, like for Zuko to lower his guard and so she can keep an eye on him or something? It was rather suspicious.

Resident Maiko shipper here! >:3 Am I the resident one? I dunno. ><; I think I might be head of the Maiko and Tokka brigades.
Nope, wasn't surprised at all. I screamed and rolled around giddily, but... Okay, for anyone who's read the comics in the Avatar mag, or even heard about the comics, you saw/heard that Mai and Zuko kissed. That was before they even left Ba Sing Se.
And was it outta character? Hell. No. HELL no. This could be just crazy little me, but Maiko had been SO apparent, mainly on Mai's side but also a little bit on Zuko's side, in season 2. I was (pleasantly) surprised that I actually WAS right, that Zuko liked Mai. I'll admit that.
I didn't expect them to pump Maiko into the series so quick, though. It's a bit of a letdown in a way, because I think the building of relationships is just as fun, if not moreso, than the relationships themselves, but then again, we get TONS of in-your-face Maiko now. I don't have to ferret around for clues! Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Well, good in that I don't have to argue with people, bad in that I don't get to think very hard.
As far as the theory that Mai is just going with Zuko to get info on him for Azula... okay, if I hadn't seen Zuko Alone, I would think that. In fact, I am more than a little wary that Azula's going to try and spring that idea onto Mai. But I sincerely think that Mai likes Zuko. I think (more hope, really) that when he runs away (season 3 trailer lololol) she will try to go with him, or talk him out of it, or SOMETHING. I think that he is more important to her than the outcome of the war (c'mon, has she really cared that much about it? She joined up with Azula outta boredom, not for the glory of the Fire Nation). That could be crazy fangirling shipping me (in fact it probably is), but I think that.

The All-Avatar Nick Magazine Issue explains everything that happens before Aang wakes up.
Basically Azula and Ty Lee sent Zuko and Mai invitations to a dinner with some important people but they were the only ones there (they do this so Zuko will return to the Fire Nation - he doesn't want to go). They ate together ("we can't let this go to waste..." Mai says) and then went to the town. They meet Jin and she asks who Mai is. Zuko says she was the Knife Thrower at the circus. Mai knocks a fish off of Zuko's head; Jin tries and Zuko ducks, falls in water. Mai runs off laughing and Zuko chases after her. I think Zuko says, "I guess some things never change." Mai smiles. "Neither has this." They kiss.

No, I wasn't surprised. I saw the trailer and knew it was coming. But there's one thing that bothers me.
The scene in the trailer looked different than what they've shown so far. I have this theory that the kiss (in the trailer) happened before Zuko was banished or right before his banishment. They were already hooked up back then. I think Zuko did lean in during that kiss.
But with the kiss we saw in Ch. 1, Zuko didn't lean in or at the very least not that much. To me it seemed more "Yeah, kiss, whatever."
(In case there is something that blows a huge hole in my theory, I have not seen the Avatar magazine yet.)

To me it seemed more "Yeah, kiss, whatever." Nah, banished!Zuko was much younger. You can tell just by comparing the two faces, banished!Zuko's skin was a lot smoother and his eyes were more innocent. I think that the trailer kiss was just from further on in the season, when they'd had some time to really get close. The reason that The Awakening kiss didn't seem too impassioned from Zuko is because a)He was fretting and distracted, b)He was vaguely annoyed at Mai for teasing him, and c)Their relationship is still fairly new, in a way. I mean, even if they did have something before he got banished (I'm still fuzzy on this detail, I haven't read the comic because I'm Canadian and NONE of the stores here have it), they haven't seen each other or communicated at all in 3 years, they've drifted apart more than somewhat. Outta curiosity and poor memory, Negi, what's your stance on Maiko? You're a definite Taanger which makes me think that you must be Zutarian, which, y'know, would make you ferociously against Maiko.

Yeah, I'm a big Taang fan but as far as Zutara goes, I'm not going to strangle someone over it. I'm not really sure how to describe other than: Zutara = Yeah, it has my support 3nodding Kataang = Hmm, okay if it does end up happening neutral Maiko = Meh confused (pretty much the same answer you would get if you asked for Mai's opinion on anything else) (I need to not post when I'm tired....)

I don't think Mai was OOC. It would seem that way if you didn't read the comic beforehand. It just seemed like a casual kiss, but Zuko did seem like he had a lot on his mind. I'm sure he did, especially since he had to meet his dad and get used to not being a banished prince.
I'm a Zutara shipper, but I'm happy with whatever outcome. This series definitely keeps you guessing! 3nodding

Yes, i was shocked when I saw that Zuko and Mai kissed, it was something that I did not expect but expected it at the same time, it's kinda odd trying to explain it. Let's just say it was bound to happen...I just wonder what'll happen in the end
