A short, strong looking man strode into the classroom. He had long, wavy hair that was ebony colored, and his eyes were a rich brown, almost like the color of coffee. As he stood before the class, he smiled and then took out his wand and pointed it towards the chalk board. After he muttered a simple charm, the piece of chalk flew up and began writing something. When the piece of chalk finally went back into it's original spot, the board clearly read 'Basic Charms Class'.

"Welcome everyone, to Charms class. I will be your teacher this year, my name is Professor Kirk McConnelly" he said to the students in a suprisingly soft voice. "During the course of this year, you will be learning many new spells and charms. Most of which will be helpfull, and only a couple that are for fun." He smiled at the students and then continued. "So then, why don't we begin with some class rules, and then we can get into the first chapter in our textbooks."

Kirk pointed his wand towards a stack of papers on his desk, then with a muttered chant, the papers suddenly rose into the air and flew towards the students, and then separated so that there was a single sheet of paper next to each student in the classroom. After a moment of hovering, the papers finally landed infront of each student. This paper contained all of the class rules.

"Please take a moment to read over the paper, it is very important that you all know and understand these rules" he said to his students, and then he moved behind his desk and sat down as they did so.

"Now then, please put the papers aside and take out your textbooks". As everyone did as they were told, he quietly stood up and walked over to the board where he began to write a list of spells each year would be focusing on for this lesson. "Okay class, as you might have noticed, this class is made up of students from different years. Some of you may be new, and others may have been here for a few years already. Just to make sure each year is learning new spells, rather than teaching them the same ones over and over again, i've written a list on the board. Please find your year and then flip through the text book to the chapter your spells are located in. I'd like for each of you to read about those spells first, and then you may practice them. Please do not skip ahead in this class, if you know a spell that I haven't taught you yet, it would be best if you keep it to yourself." he smiled and walked over to a cupboard and opened it up. "You will find the practice items in this storage unit, so once you're ready please feel free to grab the things you need. Also, before I let you get to your first lesson this year, i'd like to stress that you do NOT use a spell/charm against another classmate, or myself. If you do, you will not only be docked house points, but you will also get detention....With that said, please begin reading" Kirk then walked back over to his desk and sat down.

((Just pretend to read the information, seeing as how I honestly don' have something that elaborate prepared. Maybe I will next lesson.))

Lesson 1

Please find your year, and practice the spells i've listed.

I'd like it if you could practice one spell in each post. That way you have a min of 3 posts for each lesson. You are allowed to practice as much as you want, just try not to practice a spell from a previous lesson, while we're working on the current lesson.

Lastly, I will be walking around the classroom and observing as you perform these spells. If you need help please don't hesitate to ask. You may also get help from fellow students, no matter what year they're in. The important thing is for you to learn the spell correctly.

First Years

Accio - (AK-ee-oh /or/ A-see-oh)
Accio, also known as the "summoning charm" causes an object to fly to the caster. Whether it be from a short or much greater distance. In order for this spell to work properly, the caster must know at least the general location of the object being summoned.
Items Needed: Your wand and a pillow/blanket from the cabinet.
How to perform this spell: Point your wand at the targeted object, and say the incantation out loud.

Alohomora - (Al-o-ho-MOR-ah)
Alohomora is a spell that can unlock things. It is generally used on doors and maybe small chests/boxes. Note that this spell will not work on every locked object. You see, some witches/wizards will bewitch their locked objects, so access to their contents will be safe from those who try to cast Alohomora.
Items Needed: Your wand and a small chest from the cabinet.
How to perform this spell: Point your wand at the locked object, and say the incantation out loud.

Wingardium Leviosa - (win-GAR-dee-um lev-ee-OH-sa)
This charm is also known as the "Levitation Charm". When cast properly, it will allow the target to float up to five feet above the ground.
Items Needed: Your wand and a feather from the cabinet/
How to perform this spell: Point your wand towards the targeted object, and as you're saying the incatation, 'swish' your wand and 'flick' it towards the object as you finish the last part of the spell.

Second Years

Aguamenti - (AH-gwa-MEN-tee)
Aguamenti is a charm that conjures a jet of crystal clear water from the caster's wand.
Items Needed: Your wand.
How to perform this spell: Point your wand and say the incantation.

Confringo - (con-FRIN-goh)
Confringo, also knowns as the "blasting curse" is generally used to make a specified target explode into tiny pieces.
Items Needed: Your wand and a melon of your choice from the cabinet.
How to perform this spell: Point your wand at the target and say the incantation.
Note: You may want to grab a few melons, especially if you intend on practicing this spell more than once. Please don't take more than 5 melons.

Hover Charm - (win-GAR-dee-um non)
This spell is similar to that of the spell known as Wingardium Leviosa. The only difference is that this spell will cause the object in question to hover in the air momentarily. Rather than it floating to wherever your point your wand.
Items Needed: Your wand and a small book from the cabinet.
How to perform the spell: It's exactly the same as Wingardium Leviosa, however you say a different incantation.

Third Years

Incendio - (in-SEN-dee-o)
Incendio is a fire starting spell. It is very usefull for the times when you're camping or possibly lost in the wilderness at night. However, I want you all to note this spell is not something you use to start your fellow classmates on fire with. That is by all means strictly prohibited.
Items Needed: Your wand, a small pile of sticks from the cabinet, and a bucket of water (or you may use Aguamenti to put the fire out).
How to perform the spell: Point your wand towards the object and say the incantation.

Light Spell - (flag-ran-shia)
The Light Spell, not to be confused with Lumos, is a spell that produces a handful of shimmering light. When cast, it will create a light crackling sound just before the light appears.
Items Needed: Your wand
How to perform the spell: Hold the wand infront of you and concentrate only on the wand. When ready say the incantation.

Reparo - (re-PAR-oh)
Reparo does exactly what it's name sounds like. It repairs any damage done to an object.
Items Needed: Your wand, and a bag that has a broken object inside.
How to perform the spell: Point your wand at the broken item, and say the incantation.
Note: Each bag contains a random item, so please make sure you state what your item is after performing the spell

Fourth Years

Avis - (AH-vis)
This spell is used to conjure a flock of small, twittering birds.
Items Needed: Your wand.
How to perform te spell: Point your wand, concentrate and when ready say the incantation.

Orchideous - (or-KID-ee-us)
While this spell may not have any usefullness, it can most definately be romantic. You see, when this spell is cast, it conjures a bouquet of flowers out of the end of your wand.
Items Needed: Your wand
How to perform the spell: Concentrate on your wand and the spell. Then when you're ready, say the incantation.

Pack - (No Incatation)
This charm is unique in the case that it doesn't have an incantation. Instead it just needs a lot of concentration and a slight wand movement. When cast properly, this charm will cause the desired object(s) to pack itself away. Whether you want it to be put into a storage bin, or a suitcase.
Items Needed: Your Wand, a small suitcase and a pile of random objects from the cabinet.
How to perform the spell: Point your wand at the desired object(s) and concentrate on them. Think about where you want them to go. When you think you're ready, simply flick your wand a tiny ammount, in the direction of the suitcase (or whatever they're being packed into).

Fifth Years

Flagrate - (flah-GRAH-tay)
Flagrate creates a burning, fiery line in the air which can be "drawn" with the wand, into specific shapes. The shapes will linger for some time.
Items Needed: Your wand
How to perform the spell: Point your wand, concentrate on it, when ready say the incantation, and then use the wand to draw out your message, shape...etc.
Note: This spell only lasts for a limited ammount of time. Depending on how well you do this spell, it could stay anywhere from 5 minutes to an entire day.

Scourgify (SKUR-ji-fy)
This spells main purpose is to clean things. So it can come in handy when you need to clean a small mess in your room, or possibly your pets cage..etc
Items Needed: Your wand and a pile of objects from the cabinet.
How to perform this spell: Point your wand at the objects in question, and recite the incantation. Performing this spell properly will cause the items to tidy themselves up. EX: If you have a pile of books laying in your room, and you recite this spell, it will cause the books to stack neatly ontop of eachother.

Incarcerous (in-CAR-sir-us)
While this spell is best used in times of danger, it may also help you with annoying tasks that involves binding something with rope. Basically, Incarcerous is a charm that sends thick ropes out of thin and then proceeds to wrap around the desired person/object.
Items Needed: Your wand and a plushie from the cabinet.
How to perform this spell: Point your wand at the object, concentrate, and then recite the spell. If this is done correctly, a thick rope should wrap itself around your plushie.

Sixth Years

Tergeo - (tair-GAY-oh)
This spell is similar to that of Scourgify. However, it not only cleans objects, but it also cleans things on people. A good example would be blood, dust, grease...etc.
Items Needed: Your wand and a stained cloth from the cabinet. (The cloths have been stained with a red dye, it's meant to represent blood.)
How to perform the spell: Point your wand at the desired object/person and recite the incantation. It's the same as Scourgify, however this spell works just a tad different.

Levicorpus (leh-vi-COR-pus)
This spell is good for when you are in danger and need to get away. Levicorpus will take the targeted person and dangle them in mid-air by their ankles. Meaning..they are upside-down.
This spell should not be used on a teacher, fellow classmate...etc. Especially not as a joke.
Items Needed: Your wand and a plushie from the cabinet.
How to perform the spell: Point your wand at the targeted object/person and recite the incantation.

Episkey (eh-PIS-key)
This spell is great for when you or someone you know is injured and you can't get them to the infirmary. Basically, when you use this spell correctly, it will heal/repair any damage that has been inflicted on the person. Note that this cannot bring someone back to life, it isn't THAT strong of a spell.
Items Needed: Your wand and an injured dummy from the cabinet.
How to perform the spell: Point your wand at the injury (or just the person in general) and recite the spell. Keep your concentration on the person/injury until it has fully healed.
Note: Even if the injury looks as if it has been healed properly, you should always go to the infirmary, you know...just incase.

Seventh Years

Obliteration Charm (oh-blih-ter-A-toe)
With the help of this spell, you should be able to remove any tracks left by you, whether it be in sand, snow or some other type of ground where tracks are easily made.
Items Needed: Your wand and a large jar of dirt from the cabinet.
How to perform this spell: To start, pour your jar of dirt out and spread it out on the ground slightly. Then you need to step in it a few times, thus making track marks. Next you need to point your wand at the marks, and recite the incantation. This should cause the tracks you left to disappear.
Note: Once you're finished with this spell, please use Scourgify to clean up your mess.

Permanent Sticking Charm (ad-HERE-oh per-mah-nen-tay)
This charm will magically fasten on object to another, making it very difficult to break them apart. That being said, it's not wise to stick one person to another, especially seeing as how they would stay like that for quite some time.
Items Needed: Your wand and two random objects from the cabinet
How to perform this spell: Point your wand towards the two objects and recite the spell. Make sure you are concentrating only on those two items, we don't need them sticking to something else by accident.

Finite Incantatem (fi-NEE-tay in-can-TAH-tum)
When you find yourself in a situation where spells are being cast left and right and you just want it to stop, well then using this spell will prove most usefull for you. Finite Incantatem is a spell that will stop all current operating spell effects.
Items Needed: Your wand and a couple classmates. Preferably groups of 3.
How to perform this spell: First you need the two other group members to cast a simple spell on the other. Note that this spell must not harm them. Once they each are being affected by a spell, point your wand at the two of them and recite the spell. If done correctly both of the spells they cast should stop immediately.
Note: So that this spell doesn't affect others in the classroom who are trying to practice, please try to isolate you and your group away from the rest of the class. If this means stepping out into the hallway then that is fine. Just make sure you let anyone who passes by know that you are working on an assignment.

Homework

Due: September 29, 2007

To keep the first assignment simple, i'd like for each student to write a paragraph on one of the three spells they just learned. The spell should be their favorite of the three. In the paragraph i'd like you to include a little bit about the spell, and why you like it best. Any extra tid-bits are fine. Please try not to ramble and while going over a paragraph is fine, please don't make it too long.

When you've completed your assignment, please post it in the "Charms Homework" thread in the subforum labelled "professor offices". Make sure you include the following:

Name, House, Year, Date, and finally the assignment.

:Note: This assignment isn't required, however anyone who does complete it (correctly) will get extra credit and some house points.

Kinzo arrived to class early, an unusual occurence for her. After listening to the professor she wandered over to the cabinent to retreive a few sticks. After returning to her table, she picked up her wand, and went over the incantation once. "Incendio!" A small spark flew from her wand, but it wasn't large enough to light the twigs. The witch sighed and practiced several more times, by her fifth try the wood ignited, starting a crackling fire. Well, that wasn't too difficult. After practicing a few more times, she wrote some notes about the charm and moved on.
PostPosted: Sun Sep 23, 2007 7:51 am

Kiandra strode into class and sat down at a table near the front. She read over the class rules, and then took out her textbook to begin reading the 3 charms Professor Kirk assigned the first years. The first was Accio. After finishing the short paragraph on what Accio was used for, and how to properly cast it, she got up and went over to the cabinet to grab a pillow.

"This one looks good" she thought to herself as she grabbed a small, fluffy, pink pillow. It was just her style too.

Kiandra wandered back towards her table, placing the pillow 5 feet from her. As she pulled out her wand and pointed it at the 'targeted object' she took a few moments to calm herself. When she finally felt ready, she took a deep breath, let it out and cried out "Accio!". Despite her enthusiasm for this spell, the pillow had barely budged.

Slightly frustrated, but not yet ready to give up, Kiandra straightened her posture and took another deep breath. She once again calmed herself, and then tried to concentrate on nothing but the pillow.

"Accio!" she said, this time with more power behind her voice.

It was much to her suprise that this time the pillow came flying towards her. Kiandra smiled and then set the pillow about 8 feet from her so she could practice some more.

Kairi, who was sitting at a wooden table near the back of the room, quickly flipped through her Charms book.
When she got to the right page, she looked at what she had to do:

Avis
Orchideous
and Packing

Kairi smiled at the three spells she would be practicing. Deciding to start with the first one, she sat up straight and pointed her wand at nothing in particular.

She concentrated and sat the word Avis a little too loudly, and nothing happened. Hiding her disappointment, she tried again. Kairi tried for about three times before something occurred.

She was now pointing at the corner of her desk and in saying the incantation, a few yellow feathers came out of the end of her wand.

Even though it was nothing, Kairi saw it as something and smiled. Now with more determination, she tried the spell again and this time succeeded.

Five or six small yellow birds flew from the end of her wand. They were twittering madly and flew around the room.

Her grin faltered a little when she realized how annoying the birds were and when she did not know how to make them go away.

Striding into her first class, Charms, Elizabeth looked around, noting the lack of familiar faces. She found herself a seat in the back corner of the room so she could practice in peace and looked up at the board. 'Aguamenti, Confringo, and the Hover Charm. I wonder what kind of limits the hover Charm has..." She mused as she flipped to the index of her book and looked up the location of each spell. A grin spread across her face as her deep green eyes scanned the page that described Confringo, the 'blasting curse'. Deciding that was as good a place to start as any, she went to fetch some melons from the cabinet.

Having placed her first melon on the desk in front of her, Elizabeth swept her dark hair back into a loose braid, as this looked like it would be a messy experiment. Standing back, she went over the incantation in her mind, then lifted her wand and said, "Confringo." The melon merely sat there, as if mocking her. True, its surface was riddled with spiderweb cracks, but the book said that the Charm should make it explode. She sighed, rolled her head to one side and then the other, then lifted her wand again and said in a more commanding voice this time. "Confringo." The watermelon exploded with a shower of sticky juice. "Ugh..." Her robes were soaked.

Deciding to practice a bit more, she placed another melon, this time a Honeydew, on the desk. Elizabeth pushed up the sleeves of her robes, and raised her wand once more, confident as she said, "Confringo." Though a few sparks shot from the end of her wand, the melon sat undisturbed three feet from where she stood. Scowling at it, she raised her wand again, and cried, "Confringo!" The melon rocked back and forth slightly as if it had been hit by a strong blow, but still remained intact. Elizabeth frowned, wondering what she was doing wrong. After all, she had done it once.

After making a few more flocks of birds appear, Kairi decided to try the next spell on the list.

Looking in her book, she saw it was a spell to make flowers come out of the end of your wand. She smiled at the thought of the new spell and how interesting it would be.

Her smile left her face as she concentrated on the tip of her wand and the spell. She took a moment to think before muttering "Orchideous". This time, instead of nothing happening, a single baby flower fell onto the table.
Happy with her first time success, even if it was small, she picked up the bud and put it behind her ear.
She concentrated and tried the spell three more times and every time more and more flowers popped out. The more she tried, the bigger the flowers got.

On her fifth attempt, a full bouquets of purple flowers with white centers sprouted from the tip of her wand.

Catching them in her hand, she got a small vase from the back and conjured some water into it. Kairi then set the flowers in it and continued to make more and more flowers appear. Each time, she put then into the vase.

When she decided she was done, she looked at her text book and saw the last spell: packing.

Setting the vase on the side of the desk, Kairi went to the cabinet, got a small suitcase and four or five objects.

She set the random things in a small row next to the suitcase.
Looking down at the book, she noticed there was no incantation.

"No incantation? This'll be hard," she thought.

Even with her hard concentration and her strong will-power, the packing 'spell' did not work until her tenth time. Kairi had flicked her wand and the hairbrush she was pointing to slowly landed into the suitcase.

"Now I won't have to pack when I got home over Christmas break!"

She continued to move all of her objects to the suitcase and after emptying it, she repeatedly practiced until she was doing it perfectly.

Jes was sitting toward the back of the room, next to Kairi. She flipped through her book until she found a page entitled Avis. After reading more about the spell, she sat up straight and focused her attention on the wall to her right. Concentrating she brought up her wand, still keeping all her attention on the wall, she said "Avis". As she expected nothing happened. She gave a little sigh and focused on the wall once more.
"Avis" Jes said again. 'Nothing..' she thought. After afew more failed attempts, she cleared her desk of yellow feathers and prepared herself to say the spell once more.
"Avis" Jes said and about 6 little yellow birds flew out her wand. She smiled at the twittering birds above her.

When Sira had entered the classroom, some students could already be found waving their wands around, casting spells out loud.
She quickly slithered through them, trying not to get in their way, and sat at one of the vacant wooden desks.
Out of her bag, she pulled out her textbook and wand. The professor had designated three charms for each year to practice, and so, Sira ran her eyes through the description of those she had assigned to her.

"Accio. Ac-see... Ak-eee... A-see-oh. A-seeee-ooh.", she thought to herself, a bit slowly. "Okay then."

She walked to the cabinet and took out a pillow from it. There were also blankets, but somehow a pillow seemed to be easier, since it was smaller (although the weight could be around the same).

After she placed it in her desk, she took four steps back, pointed her mahogany wand at the unsuspecting, innocent pillow, and said, out loud:

"Accio!"

The pillow remained still in its spot, and, embarassed, Sira looked around. Everyone seemed so busy though, so her failure hadn't been noticed.
She shook her head and shoulders, in an attempt to both relax and concentrate.

"ACcio!", she repeated, with more emphasis on the first syllable.

This time, the pillow took flight. Sira felt the impact when she caught it in her arms; she wasn't expecting it to fly towards her at that speed. Still, satisfied that she had been able to make it move, she placed it on the same spot and repeated the spell, this time a bit more prepared to grab the pillow.

Naida arrived and was honestly surprised to see so many people there. She thought she was early. But she easily picked out her twin and went over to her. "So what are we doing?" She asked Kiandra, not even thinking to read the board or anything first.

Kiandra looked up from what she was doing. When she realized it was her sister, she quickly wrapped her up in a hug. "NAIDA!!!!" she refused to let her go. She'd have to pry Kiandra off. "We're going over spells. For our year we have Accio, Alohomora and Wengardium Leviosa." She smiled and continued to hold her sister. Though they hadn't been separated for that long, it felt like an eternity. "Do you want to work together?"
PostPosted: Sun Sep 23, 2007 4:24 pm

Naida's body took the hug, but didn't return it. "Um... sure." Naida had changed. A lot. In a single night. She was commanding and full of some sort of false confidence. Already she wore her hair differently than her sister, now in a braid down her back instead of loose like it used to be. "Let me see your book, I don't feel like getting mine out." And while mean, her voice was not giving a lot of option.

Kiandra noticed the change in her sister, so she let go and handed her the book. "Did something happen?" she asked with a sad tone in her voice.
