This guy was creepy. Seriously. He was from Wallachia, which is I guess in Romania. Supposedly, he was the inspiration for the character Count Dracula. I've always taken an interest in Medieval European history. A lot of it's creepy and weird, but fascinating, to say the least.
P.S. I'm thrilled my idea was chosen for the title of this forum! eek

Yes, he is a very interesting character. It is said that he was the cause of many murders in Transylvania. People would see him living in his castle up on a dark hill, not in the houses of the town. And as soon as something of bad omen turned up, the people turn and blame the thing that they don't understand. Whether he deserved the title "The Impaler", I'm afraid I will never know. But the fact is that in that point in time, alot of people were accused of doing things that weren't proven, such as the witch trials.

he does deserve the title Impaler. for that is what he did to his enemies. he would impale them alive on stakes and watch them die in agony slowly. it is said that this was his favorite method of giving out punnishment. it is a historical fact that he did this.

Not only did he impale his victums he would drink their blood from a chailce with I think bread as he watched them die. & yep he was the inspiration for Bram Stocker's Dracula. Some version of the name Dracula was Vlad's nickname or something.
My source of that info was a documentary on him I saw on the history channel several months ago.

Yes, it's been recounted by many people that he did perform those deeds. I can't imagine any human being doing things like that; I guess some people were more bloodthirsty back then, for whatever reason. D=
