THE MURDER OF A CHILD/FIRST ACT OF AGRESSION BY SOLARDUCT Mr. Edwards had been pacing his office all afternoon. That woman was going to cause trouble. This was the second time he had heard something about her, but this time she was looking into far less stable sources. To his knowledge she hadn't actually SAID anything, but she was hinting around it. If the wrong people got wind of it... He sighed. It was time to call his friend.
Charles wouldn't like it very well, Mr. Edwards knew that. He'd probably accuse him of not thoroughly examining those guardians well enough. He didn't want that on his shoulders, but responsibility was responsibility, and Mr. Edwards wasn't one to shirk from it. He dialed the personal number of his friend. He'd need to be sure to get ahold of him. Soon.
Finally! Some peace and some time for him alone. Charles was currently sitting in a large luxury bath in an equally large and luxury bathroom somewhere in the Headquarters. Kind of pathetic really. He actually lived here.
Letting out a relaxed sigh, he dozed off a bit and let himself slide down under the bubbles somewhat. A slippery hand raising from the water to push up his shades, he slid back once more, enjoying the silence, rest and peace for a change.
As if. Nope, just when Charles was all comfy and ready to fall asleep, his phone started to ring. With a jolt he sat up and lunged for the phone, causing half of the contents of the bath to spill out, and himself as well.
Cursing, he sat up on one knee and pulled the ringing phone from his innerpocket. "Charles." He kept his voice curt and business-like. No need for anyone to know he just fell out of bath.
"I'm sorry to interupt, Charles," it was always Mr. Edwards' greeting when he was using the cellphone for buisness, "It's Jim. I have something important to report, when it's conveniant for you. Uh..It's about one of the guardians. She's been doing some investigation."
Why Jim even bothered suggesting that he would wait until a more convienant time was beyond even him. He'd just said probably about as much as could be said. It only could get worse from there.
Ah, Jim. That usually didn't bode well. "No matter Jim, what's going on? And which guardian in specific are you talking about?" He was getting a really seriously bad feeling here. Which wasn't really improved by the fact he was sitting on a cold bathroom floor, naked and wet.
He stood up absentmindedly as a vague suspicion started to arise. He hoped it wasn't the one who he thought it would be.
"It's the Diedre girl, Ariya...luna...Launa..." Jim had to move a paper on his desk as he spoke. Why did they pick the people with the strangest names? "Apparently she's taken it on herself to do a full investigation of the agency. I could send someone to speak with her, but I'm afraid she's not going to stop with simple conversation."
He sighed, "Charles? She's asking questions and contacting people. I've heard about her twice now, one from a source that's not going to cause any problems, but the second might start asking questions if she or any other guardians keep popping up. I'll deal with it, but I thought to get your approval and suggestions first."
He doubted that Charles would let him, but it was polite to offer. He felt a bit responsible for it anyhow.
"Damn," Charles really cursed now. He usually didn't do so, but this was a serious situation. "That woman has been suspicious ever since she first walked in here." His mind was running overtime now. "No, no, don't send anyone. This is much too important to let anyone else do this. I will handle it personally."
He was already attempting to dress himself, with one hand yanking up his pants, the other one still holding the phone, all the time trying to balance himself.
Worry laced his voice as he heard the next pieces of information Jim had. "Which people did she conctact exactly? Make sure to keep all of this covered up. I'm sure I don't have to remind you how important it is that our work does not leak out." he grunted and his voice darkened. "I'm sure that you too have not forgotten Neuron City?"
"Charles," in response to Charles' fervent reaction, Jim immediately scoled "Don't overwork yourself, buddy. Look, you're not super--- well, you're still human anyway. You can't do everything. I can help, you know."
But in his office, he immediately shrugged as everything that was said registered, suddenly self-conscience. "Of course I haven't forgotten, but that was not anyone's fault. If something like that was repeated, it might end up being someone's fault though. If he doesn't care for himself he can't care for the world. Yes...I'm stopping now."
Did he HAVE to sound so much like his parents? And to a grown man!
"It's being covered already. Don't worry." he didn't tell the man who all was involved. No point in him having a fit and running over to double-check on THAT as well.
Charles grabbed his hair in frustration. "Look Jim, I appreciate your concern, but this is too important a question for me to let others handle it. If anyone, and I mean anyone outside the Agency would find out about our work, or even worse, the locations of the children, they'd be killed on the spot. None of them have even received one training!"
Charles was getting really worked up now. Having managed to fasten his pants, he was now attempting to button up his shirt.
"Alright Jim, I trust you to handle the other issues, but I will visit the guardian myself." He shook his head angrily. "There is just too much at stake here. Do you have a current location for me?"
Jim looked at the data, and then harrumped, beginning to sound a bit upset himself, "Hold on a moment, will you, Charles?"
He knew it would frustrate Charles to no end to be putting down like this, but Jim put the phone on intercom so Charles could here what was being said, and this would likely make his friend do backflips.
"What in the moons do are you people HIRED for? Why hasn't Dee's computer been shut down? Have you even gotten into the system yet? Don't make excuses, do it NOW! I'm going to have your hides, all of you... SOMEONE is going to answer for this! It does not take all morning!"
He snatched up the phone, "She's at her house. Easy to tell, she's always doing something on that computer of hers." was the short answer, "And don't. I'm on the men, I'll take care of it."
Jim sighed. The mrs was going to murder him for not coming home yet another night, then he shook his head in self-amusement. Maybe he was the kettle calling the pot black when he yelled at Charles for overworking himself.
What the hell was going on there? Charles was now frowning as he was sitting on the toilet lid, balancing his phone between his ear and shoulder while he was tying his shoes.
"What do you mean? Has her computer been running all this time? Open for contact with anyone?!" Charles let out another curse. "I would have expected better of you, Jim."
Finally, Charles was done dressing himself. Quite a feat, and in such a short time too. He snatched up his jacket and pulled it on as he walked out of the bathroom, all the while talking to his phone. "NO, Jim. Did you not hear me? You can send men there to contain the house and make sure nobody enters nor anything leaves the house. I do NOT want the child to be upset. She's upset enough as it is. I don't want your men physically intervening in the house, only to monitor and take out the computer from close range." He put his hand on the receiver as he barked something to his secretary. "JENNA! Is my car ready? I need to be taken to Area 1B."
"I'm back, you've got my orders Jim. Do NOT let your men physically intervene. Charles out." He pressed a button on the phone when it turned off.
As he reached the exit, he jumped in the car, waiting for him. The moment he sat down, it took off. Adjusting his tie and glasses, he sat in the back, quite worried that somehow, any information might have leaked into the wrong hands.
Jim grunted and slammed the phone down. Well, of course he wasn't going to send his men to the house. That's not what he'd meant. Charles really should know better... Ah, well, no, it was his own fault. That's what one got for trying to answer something unsaid and likely unthought.
Checking his anger and redirecting it back where it belong, Mr. Edwards stormed out of his office, "MARTIN! Back to Sasha!" He glared at the startled young man, "Didn't you hear me? OUT!" That was his first order of buisness. And Martin had been the most capable of people and highly reccomended by Sasha and those under her. He'd have to have a word with her too.
"Move," he grunted to a computer tech, and in the next few minutes was up again and turned the phone lines off in AriyaLauna's house, "And when she calls about it, DON'T fix it." he snapped, muttering under his breath over the incompetence of them all.
He never had built up as good a team. And his trust in humanity was beginning to wane thin. So, like Charles, he moved around to do it all himself. Later he would be skinning them all, and hopefully duck out of being ripped apart himself.
----
Back at home, Megan kicked the computer, "Dumb thing."
"Don't KICK it, Megan... You have to love on things to get them to work."
"I'll do what I want," Megan kicked it again.
A mini-battle ensued at the house as well then.
And today wasn't even the thirteenth, nor a Friday.
Rather impatiently, Charles sat in the car. Drumming his fingers on the side of the car seat.
The driver, noticing how impatient his boss became, fidgeted slightly, "We're almost there, boss."
Charles said nothing, he kept on running all possible scenarios through his head, evacuation plans, rebuilding plans, emergency plans, death plans. He was startled as the driver said something to him. "Oh, we're here? Good."
Straightening his shades, Charles adjusted his tie and stepped out of the car to the house of the guardian. He probably looked totally off, in his suit like this in a neighbourhood like this, but he didn't particularly care at the moment.
He finally reached the frontdoor and rang the doorbell.
"I've got it!" Megan screamed shrilly from somewhere inside, and indeed she was there in a moment, looking just as disagreeable as ever. She saw Charles and slammed the door in his face, "No one was there!.. I TOL' you no one was there, doncha trust me? FINE!" All of it said in a screaming voice.
AriyaLauna opened the door. She looked tired and perplexed, but she managed a polite smile, "Hello! Come on in. How are you?"
"I'm running away," Megan informed Charles, body language daring him to say otherwise. AriyaLauna closed her eyes.
Charles opened his mouth to say hi to Megan when she smacked the door shut in his face. He blinked. "Errr..."
The door opened again, this time it was AriyaLauna. Charles nodded in thanks to her invitation and stepped into the house. "Not so well actually. Could we go somewhere... private... to talk?" he cast a look at Megan.
"I wouldn't do that, if I were you," Charles remarked casually, "We'll pick you up in a matter of seconds."
Megan made a face, "Liar."
"Megan," AriyaLauna warned, "Be nice." While she was speaking, Megan shook her head and yelled a very loud, "NO!"
AriyaLauna nodded, "Ok, fine. We'll be in my room now, do...don't do that!" Megan was batting her eyes flirtaously.
"Oh, do what? You two go oooonnnn." Megan teased, somehow happy by that statement from AriyaLauna, then bounced over and turned the radio up, loud, "I'll be down here."
"Inside or in the backyard," AriyaLauna warned, "And don't turn that up so high!" she went over and turned the dial down and waved to Charles to follow her upstairs. Private? Even her room wouldn't be private, but at least Megan seemed to hold it in some sort of respect.
Charles watched the exchange, slightly amused by it. At least the woman was a good guardian to the child. Shaking his head slightly he followed Ariya up to her room.
When they were finally in there, he could softly hear the music coming from downstairs. "Anyway, I came here to discuss something very serious with you." He cleared his troat and took off his glasses. "Listen, the questions you are asking everyone, about the Agency, me, the children, the NSA and everything in general. They are deadly." He looked Ariya in the eye, hoping she'd understand.
"One has to get answers somehow," AriyaLauna answered, after a moment's quiet, "You didn't seem all too keen on helping me out the other day, and I'm NOT bringing myself or the children into it. I'm just asking if the organization even exists. Megan's not the only one who feels like this is nothing but a big kidnapping circle." AriyaLauna didn't look directly at Charles when she spoke, instead pulling at some strings on the bottom of her shirt. Yes, she understood, on some level, but STILL....
Charles frowned and shook his head. "I was short with you that day, because time was short. We need to move the children out of the HQ as soon as possible due to the exposure risk. The longer they are there, the greater the danger of Villain discovery."
Charles paused before continueing, his voice even more urgent. "I gave you my phone number. You could have called me to ask about it. You could have called me to make an appointment. You had a way of contacting me personally! But instead of doing so, you decided to snoop around! And endanger the lives of Megan and all the other children we've had to relocate!" By now Charles' voice had actually risen and his calm posture wasn't so calm anymore, he looked very upset. "You have no idea of the things that could have happened!"
He took a shaky breath, trying to calm down.
"Oh, the world would have fallen," AriyaLauna answered back sarcastically, "Because I was asking government agencies that SHOULD know anyway. If you're legitiment, then I have to find something."
"No." Charles' voice was very icy now. "Any Villain could have picked up the questions you've asked and have come to the conclusion that you knew about the second Agency. From there on, it would have been simple for him to come here, kill Megan and find out the location of the Agency."
"The children that we are relocating now, are the last hope of our world. Because in the not too distant future, Villains will rise. Lots of them, as we have intelligence that Bermuda is training an army of his own. Did you never consider that there was an actual reason we were so secretive? I think not." His anger had been rising and there was such a fast flash of red in his eye, that it seemed a trick of the light.
Charles closed his eyes and took a deep breath. "Nobody is supposed to know about the Agency. I trust you are familiar with the Neuron City incident? Same principle here. We have managed to stop the outgoing information flow at the second source you've approached, but otherwise, he would have gone to the media and we would all have been doomed." He took a deep breath.
AriyaLauna looked down, considering Charles' words, and then taking a deep, shaky breath, with a shake of her head, "You're melodramatic, but that aside.. You know I've been researching. I found a problem with your perfect, secretive plan. It's me. And us. You failed to tell us. You failed to give us any introduction. That was kind of foolish. Expect what you call foolishness out of us." She was trying hard to keep from crying, and her own eyes watered, her voice was slow, careful that each word was said, but there was full meaning there. She hated disappointing someone, but this was silly, "Either you're overreacting, or you overlooked."
Charles let out a wry laugh. "Melodramatic? Truly.. you... you do not grasp the severity of what you have done."
He shook his head and his voice faltered slightly, "That... that might be true. Communication might have been lacking. But we did give you a choice. I gave you the opportunity to talk to me. I gave you my phone number at which I was available twentyfour hours a day and still you did not seek any contact with me. If asked we would have provided you with more than enough proof."
He shook his head and closed his eyes. "We're not even sure if we stopped the leak in time. But we were just in time to prevent the guardian and chil locations to leak out. The only thing that might have been compromised is the location of the headquarters." He let out a very deep and desperate sigh.
AriyaLauna didn't look at Charles, but down. Her mind was racing. She was angry, feeling like she'd done her job, and amused, and worried all at the same time. But she was beginning to feel the tightening in her throat, and her eyes were beginning to sting. Too sensitive, Ariya. Always crying. You always cry! Because of her personal anger, she was able to get herself under control for a few breaths, but she dared not look up.
"Melodramatic," she answered, her own stubborn streak beginning to show, "And I didn't say anything specifically about the agency. I just said I'd heard, and was curious to see if it really existed. I'm not a child. I--I just figured the school and police would know, and obviously Metropolis itself..." she let her voice trail off. He probably already knew anyway.
It was what she said, though in her mind she was fiercely defending herself, and putting what blame she could on Charles. He HADN'T been all that approachable...
Charles only felt frustration, but as examined the woman closer he saw her eyes were watering. She must be about to cry. Feeling worried, he realised he might have gone a bit too far.
"Alright, listen. Nobody knows about the Agency because we need to warrant the safety of the children. There are, of course, several high placed men who do know about us, but that's it. All the authorities know, is that when we show our badges, we have full authority over them. Nobody knows what we are, just that that's what it is."
He took a deep breath, partly to calm himself, partly to pause a bit. "We believe we have stopped the leak in time and managed to prevent any damage. So.. if you have any questions, I'd be more than willing to answer them now." His voice was more kind now and he went to sit on the edge of the bed. He pulled his shades out of his pockets and slid them back on his nose.
"Well, yes, but..." AriyaLauna shook her head, "Forget it." She didn't feel like questioning, "I just--I don't know." What she wanted was evidence, real evidence, and she wasn't sure that he would be willing to provide that.
Saved by the bell, Charles' cellphone rang. It would, of course, be Jim. He would likely greet Charles with that death apology for interrupting his friend. And why not? Murphy's Law was out scouting today.
Charles gave the woman a piercing look ,and he was still giving it when his cellphone rang. He snatched it up in less than a second.
"Charles."
No, Jim Edwards didn't answer with an apology. But it was worse, Jim's voice was clipped and buisness-like, and filled with anger.
"Charles. It's Jayden. He's in trouble, I've sent help. Her guardian, Mister Bonds, we can't find him."
All colour left Charles' face as he rose. "Missing? What about the child's location?" his voice sounded weird to him. This couldn't be true. This couldn't be true! They couldn't lose one of the children and guardians so soon already.
He gritted his teeth and clenched his fist. "How did you find out?"
"Has there been any Villain detection in the area?" his heart shuddered to think about it. They couldn't sent out Darebone again, she was still recovering from her last mission while Flashcharge's powers were slightly unstable for now.
"He's outside of the Kidz First play area. One of the coworkers called someone and it got to me first. Apparently Bonds was picking him up when a Villian showed up," Jim swallowed, "Unidentified by us for now, though I've my suspicisions. Not one that should cause too much trouble. My men are there, I have visual..." he paused and banging could be heard on the other side as he perfected what he could see.
Jim started to curse, and then apologized, "I was wrong, it's Solarduct... I'm out. I'm going." but he didn't hang up, he would do what Charles ordered him to do.
"Oh God." Charles fell silent and bowed his head before moving the phone back to his ear. "It's too late. Jayden's already dead, as well as all dispatched men and Bonds." he swallowed, a lump in his throat.
"I don't think.. he might- he might have lingered there to gloat over his victory. But go there and start the clean-up. I'll be there in a moment. Let someone notify my driver of the coordinates." Charles felt rather sick and absolutely horrified.
AriyaLauna sat in horror at the words she heard, then backed her chair away, a nonverbal cue that she'd just let Charles go. Not that she would have a choice, he'd go if he wanted to, but it was innate in her.
"Right." Jim hung up then, pulling on his own gear, and yelling orders and threats out.
Why? This shouldn't have happened. What had they missed?
Charles turned to Ariya, his face extremely white. "Not your fault." his voice sounded hoarse, not like his own at all. "This-it... -it's not your fault." with that, he turned and ran out the door, down the stairs and practically threw himself in the car.
"Go. Ignore speed limits, use speed boost." Charles' heart was beating frantically, his chest felt oddly constricted.
AriyaLauna had kept her head bowed at Charles' words, and didn't get up when he ran out. She just sat quietly where she was.
Jim wasn't anywhere near AriyaLauna's activity level. He and his group were down in record time. He only paused long enough to allow himself and his men to stop and LOOK at the damage, to once again fuse it into minds that this was not a child's game. He allowed himself that moment to personally step through the debris, to examine what was going on. To outside observers he peered to be callused, uncaring, simply analyzing the situation and looking for clues. Those on the inside knew there was no necessity of it, what cameras had already captured would prove to be more useful than the human eye and mind, and they knew that Mr. Edwards was not one to second guess the technology he had.
He suddenly swirved around, "Get this place cleared-up, did someone go to stop the media? Phonelines checked? Are there witnesses?"
Witnesses! Abruptly, he swung around again, leaving his people to do their work, and ran to the Kidz First building. Charles had said those associated with them had been killed. What about the children, the workers... ?
Drumming his fingers on the carseat, he was vaguely aware of cars honking and braking abruptly to them. His own car braked quite suddenly and he was flung forward. "Sorry sir!" the driver yelled, "but we're here!"
Charles didn't waste any more time and threw himself out of the car. Taking on everything in his environment he noticed the ribbons tying off the scene, the cops standing by it, looking very uneasy, the crowd, the media. Upon his arrival, camera's immediatly flashed and microphones were pushed in his face. "No comment." he practically snarled it as he pushed his way through the crowd, and ducked under the ribbon of the first cordon. He then ducked under the second one, ten meters from the first and guarded by Agency guards. They looked, if possible even more uneasy than the cops.
Ducking past them as well, he spotted Jim and strode over to him. His throat felt constricted as he saw three still forms, covered in sheets. "Jim. What have you got?"
"A bunch of idiots under me," came Jim's rather unsatisfactory answer, he waved an arm toward the crowd that Charles had just walked through, in his mind, feeling the very presense of them would say plenty.
He walked on forward, where three small body bags were, "Jayden, and a couple of his friends. Two boys, Asher and Dean." He always made it a point to remember the names. "Everyone else is fine, not even any injuries. People inside the building, with my men. Couple of workers, I think. Damage." he waved an arm again, that much could be seen. The daycare building itself was blessedly untouched, though parts of the play area was a mess.
"Bonds... That's another area my men are covering, near his home. He'd been on the way to pick the boys up. The vehicle destroyed, and him. Apparently he tried to resist Solarduct's questioning, he wanted the boy," his eyes fell to where Jayden lie, "But why? Why d--"
Jim straightened up, and turned abruptly away. With Charles he could let a moment of hesitation down, but now was a bad time.
"Do you people DO anything?" he demanded of a nearby guard, who turned his head, "WHY is the media still here? The police, we don't need them..."
Charles avoided the look of the three still forms and turned his full attention to Jim. He noticed the man looked rather tired and in an impulsive gesture he put his hand on his shoulder and gave a reassuring gesture. "You've done awesome, Jim." He pulled his hand back and looked back around the scene.
"Why does he wants to kill them? Why does he kill small children?" Charles let out a sigh. "Do not undestimate Solarduct, Jim. He's a sadist. He enjoys killing and hurting others." he paused slightly, his eyes wandering off to the still forms before snapping back to Jim. "He's afraid of them. He's afraid that one day, one of them will rise against him and be strong enough to take him on."
Charles looked up to the guard as well. "No, let the normal police keep up the first barrier, make sure the media stays back there, don't let them come even closer."
He turned back to Jim. "I'll take over now, Jim. What else needs to be done?" He cast another look around the scene and sighed. He pulled over another guard. "Tell the media there will be a press release given out in a few hours."
"This is unacceptable," was Jim's simple answer to Charles' reassurance, and his facial expression shared the same idea as Charles went about explaining himself. It was unacceptable, all of it. And, in the end, it was his fault for not supervising his men close enough, or so he saw it anyway.
He nodded to the guard. Charles' orders went, "What else? Other than what's routine, there isn't much to do on site. Check up on the witnesses, or those who are with them. Double-check on what the men are doing. They really have it from here. Keep curious eyes out. We'll have plenty to do once we get off scene."
Jim took in a breath, "I'll be at the office." He took Charles' words to be a dismissal, and turned around to go talk to the media. He even managed to convince most of them to go home, and why not? Not much of the equipment seemed to be working, for whatever reason.
Charles only shook his head as he watched Jim leave. The man had done very well. He should tell him that more often. His expression grave and his heart hardening, he continued with all the work that was left to do.
--
It was now nearing ten PM and the media circus had only increased as had the crowd. The police had widened their block even further so that nobody had a clear view of the scene anymore. The bodies had already been removed and things that could be arranged, were all arranged.
Letting out a deep sigh, Charles rubbed his eyes before he moved to the media to give a statement.
As he approached the banners, a sudden silence fell over the crowd. For a split second it was as peaceful as it should be. Then the questions started, the yelling, the flashing of cameras.
Charles raised his hand and everything fell silent once more. He cleared his throat.
"Ladies and gentlemen. Today, at september 23rd, 5 PM a terrible tragedy occured here in Metropolis.
The Villain Solarduct has attacked the First Kidz play area and murdered three children. These children were eleven years old."
He paused as the muttering started and raised his hand again. "The guardian of one of the children was murdered by Solarduct too, at approximately 4 PM today too. I will take a few questions now."
Screaming broke out immediatly, everyone tried to be the first to ask their question. Charles just pointed at a random woman of CNN.
"Thank you sir." she cleared her throat, "Several witnesses that have been released have testified that the boy that was attacked was a Super, that he tried to defend himself by shooting something at Solarduct, but that it was too weak. Is this true?"
Charles nodded. "Yes, that is correct. The child was following a training course with the government. His powers were not yet developed enough to take on Solarduct so it was to no avail."
Charles pointed at a man of NBC "So does that mean that the government, or the NSA, I suppose, is currently training more children to be Supers one day?"
Charles kept his expression neutral "I am not allowed to comment on anything regarding work with the government. Next question please."
The same CNN woman called out again "So what's the government going to do next? Are they going to apprehend Solarduct and bring him to justice? Are you not afraid for a thing like Neuron City to be happening again?"
Charles' eyebrow twitched. What the hell did they think they had been doing? As if they weren't trying already! "We have been trying for quite some time now to apprehend Solarduct, but this is not easy. The current Supers that are in commission are overworked and have been in several confrontations with Solarduct, but have not yet won. We are working on this matter, but I'm afraid to say there's no promise or guarantee we can make for the future. We feel we have set up a suffice defense to prevent Neuron City from ever happening agan. Thank you. No further questions."
Charles turned around and walked to his car, ignoring the screams and yelling that had only gotten much louder. Frustrated and angry, he sat into his car and leaned backwards. As the car departed he sat back in his seat and leaned his face into his hands.
A single tear dripped on the ground as the car rode off in the darkness.

PROMPT - THE NEWS BROADCAST ((The following is a news broadcast. You can choose to ignore this or happen to see it. The broadcasting started at 6 PM on CNN with vague stories. The actual statement, what will be shown below, starts at ten PM.))
The newsreader looked into the camera. "Alright ladies and gentlemen, we've been reporting to you for the past four hours now about the triple murder in the center of Metropolis. There was a Villain concerned, Solarduct who murdered three children. One of the children was believed to be a Super. We now go live to Maria Beckingtail, who's at the spot."
He turned to the side, to a screen appearing "Maria, what is the updated sitation?"
"Well Bill, only five minutes ago, a government agent has given a press statement which we will show you now."
The image flicked to show Charles standing in front of the crowd. He raised his hand and everything became silent. He cleared his throat.

He paused as the muttering started and raised his hand again. "The guardian of one of the children was murdered by Solarduct too, at approximately 4 PM today too. I will take a few questions now."
Charles pointed at someone off screen and the voice of Maria could be heard.
Charles pointed to someone else off the screen. "So does that mean that the government, or the NSA, I suppose, is currently training more children to be Supers one day?"
Charles shook his head "I am not allowed to comment on anything regarding work with the government. Next question please."
Maria called out again "So what's the government going to do next? Are they going to apprehend Solarduct and bring him to justice? Are you not afraid for a thing like Neuron City to be happening again?"
There was a very slight twitch of Charles' eyebrow.
The image changed back to Maria. "There you have it Bill. The government is training children to become the next Supers, but Solarduct is hunting them all down! The government agent wouldn't comment on anything else, but it is suspected that there are more of these children. Perhaps they are living among us, they could be your neighbour! What I would feel necessairy to point out, is that, if you disover your neighbour to be a Super, do NOT reveal this to anyone else. They are the heroes of the future, and when they are all murdered, what hope will there be for us? This was Maria Beckingtail for CNN, live at the crimescene."
The image faded out, and Bill got full view again. He was silent. "Well, that's... surprising. All information can be found on our site, which is updated hourly. We wil be right back after these commercial breaks. I am Bill Notnil. Goodnight."
