But if you're just starting you probably have -somewhat- of an idea. Otherwise why are you starting in the first place?
Like do you have a pairing in mind? an OC you are dying to include?

XD I'm probably not the best person to be asking then. I have a hate-on for CanonOC pairings. However, I'll try- ok?
SO do you have any ideas about setting, vauge plot device. A sentence on which to base everything? (APART from Kai falls in love with mine OC)
eg. (stealing from own fics here XD Don't use these)
~ Kai is a stalker and gets all obsessed... and stuff.
~ Everyone goes to a mansion inherited by Rei. Then Die because the mansion is haunted XD
~ Rei joins Biovolt
etc etc

kidnapping, abduction followed by running about the country with random people that turn into wolves.... more abductions and throw in some cloning.... can anyone see a pattern here?

all my ideas involve someone getting abducted -_-;
ooh! except that investigator kinda one....
I find it helps to think of one thing and then make it evolve 3nodding
like abduction for instance sweatdrop
of course i'm not applying this to kai/oc pairings so umm....
...
how about...
umm... something about a holiday...
ooh the plane/boat/spacecraft/whatever has to make an emergency landing and there stuck on some kind of island.
... very overused plot line i'm thinking...

Why abductions? Just seems like the thing to do?
But anyways, Lainy's right. What appeals to you when you think of what you want this story to be?
I'm a fan of the psychology side of things so I like plotlines that will disturb people (No, NOT chilhood abuse- WAY overdone) or will give people an insight into others minds.
Lainy obviously has some kind of fixation on abductions XD (kidding. kidding)

You could try for a somewhat older Kai helping out at the BBA training center as - what else? - a trainer, then he notices a similarity between his younger self and one of his regular trainees (your OC). Then they can build the relationship from there.
Of course, I'm just suggesting this 'cause I have this requirement where if I make Kai fall for an OC, they have to have a common ground as a starting base for the relationship. For instance, they could both have a missing parent (Kai's dad, Susumu), or being forced to take over a family business (happening to me now, seeing as I'm the eldest - though I have a younger twin), or... something.
I'll get back to you if I can think of something else. Don't worry, though, my first Beyblade fic (unfinished as yet; I finished my 2nd fic first! xd ) also involved Kai falling for my OC...
Another way I get ideas for fics is by reading any book that happens to interest me, pick up a potential base for a plot, and build from there. Or I get my base for the plot from a striking moment in one of my dreams (such as the one where I had to go against my best friend using my Dranzer, and he was using Zeus).
Hope you find a suggestion (mine, Panda's, or Lainy's) that you feel comfortable with, and happy fanfic writing!

Ok thanx to you guys here's what I got so far...At age 15 you are subjected to tests that alter your DNA and combines it with your bit beast. You escape and flee to Japan and enjoy your new life while Boris Balkov sends his goons all over to find and recapture 'the specimen'. 6 years later, age 21, his goons have tracked you down and you flee into a nearby building which happens to be a beyblade training facility. After you enter you run into a nearby room to hide, 15mins later you get ready to leave thinking you've lost the goons and someone taps you on the shoulder, yiu turn to face Kai, scream thinking he's one of the goons and punch him in the jaw before you run out of the building. How's that so far??? any more ideas??? 3nodding whee sweatdrop
