Many of you may know Sam, or the FLCL guy, as he is called here. He has been active in here a long time and attracted a lot of attention and reputations.
Two days ago, I had a discussion with him over some concerns we the Crew did have with him, and his reliability, honesty, and humility. He put up reservations about these, and disagreed civilly. I proceeded to tell him he would be demoted from a Modding position, and able to apply for reinstatement in the future if I was in error.
He was immediately incensed about this, and stated he "knew I would try to do this to him." He tried to say he does more work than anyone, he was the only one who did his "original" job (Individual responsibilities like looking after subforums) and said he had the 5th highest post count, after I talked about mine. (He implied I have an inferior work ethic, and I reminded him I have the most posts in the guild.)
He also began to threaten that I could not do this to him, for if I did, he would quit and delete all of his posts within the guild. I am not one to be intimidated or threatened into action, nor did this reflect well at all, so I did the only thing I found to be reasonable. I banned him from the guild. He demanded his posts be removed, and I said simply, "No."
I am not one to judge the quality or accuracy of his information, which others do quite well, but rather, what has been said here is part of history and the tapestry of development we have undertaken together. Unless trolling or unrelated, I would be extremely opposed to the removal of worthwhile posts, feeling it would be robbing the guild of something which is not ours to take. He does not agree.
He immediately threatened me with moderator action in order to get back his intellectual property. I again told him I would not be scared and that the TOS tells you you relinquish the rights to your posts to Gaia as long as they are there, and the GGN FAQ that says captains, vice captains and crew can do whatever they want with their guild as long as they do not break the TOS (Which I did not.) He told me I need to remove his posts, I said No. He then repeated REMOVE MY POSTS in capital letters, I'm not sure why, perhaps to scare me. He said he would not stand for his work in the guild, that I would regret doing it... our discussion from that point degenerated into what most would most likely call simply arguing. I won't bring it up unless someone messages me personally about it. (I've saved a transcript of our conversation in order to prevent further false representations and misunderstandings).
Very well. To let you all know, Sam is no longer with us, not supported by us, or held in our esteem. In my opinion, he betrayed the trusts of those under him or those who would listen for his own gain, and acted inexcusably. He will not be allowed back in here or to delete his posts, and barring the chance of an absolutely miraculous reinstatement letter, it will stay that way permanently. We now look forward to the future, and cast off the irons of the past.

There was a personality test I took yesterday, that asked a strange question with limited multiple choice answers.
It asked:
If mike stole $50 from his friend, and Jake stole $50 from 7-11; Who would do more time?
My answer? After considering the value of trust, and honesty, and friendship, I came to the conclusion that Mike would serve far far more time than Jake. Simply because he lost the trust of a friend by betraying him.
The point? Honesty and loyalty is priceless. How does this relate to the current situation?
FLCL lost our trust, we as a community are, or at least should be, friends. He betrayed our trust and our friendship and although he admitted it, he continued to lie and make claims he couldn't support.
It also goes to show his lack of maturity with how he reacted to losing his position. Sure, being childish is good sometimes, but this is a situation when you should be mature, and take what comes to you like a man, sadly it seems that Sam/FLCL wasn't capable of that, and continued on to make threats. I feel that the action of demoting and banning him was 100% right and an action that needed to happen to ensure we rid ourselves of the "Bad Apples" in our community.

Josh,
I appreciate you and the other Crew members for taking action against FLCL. You did what you had to do and responded to what several guild members were having issues with. 'Bad Apples' can do a lot of damage to a guild, such as making the guild look foolish or even causing members to leave the guild. By taking action against FLCL, you showed that you won't tolerate that kind of behavior.
I'm also happy that you stuck to your guns and didn't remove those posts. The fact that FLCL wanted them removed so badly makes one really wonder how much he wanted to "teach" people. While I personally think most of his writings are fluffy, I believe they should be left in this guild as an example of a viewpoint and to give a preview of some of the knowledge levels of other folk in this guild.
Anyway, thanks again for taking care of this and for letting us know about it.

Ah, well, it's a bit sad to see people go to that. I thought after his apology about the whole angelkin thing he might actually have changed his ways. But then again, I suppose it was to be mildly expected.

As for the thread in general: I'd say I got along with FLCL just fine... maybe all this could have been avoided if everyone approached him the same way I did? When he and I first spoke over AIM I said that he could say what he wanted to and that I'd withhold personal judgement. I had also stated that I would not flat out say he was wrong et cetera, as there is no 100% way to prove anything incorrect (even what he says he lied about). However, if the guild will function more smoothly, then it must be for the better.

Did you mean: A. "That was a dirty, underhand comment"? If so, no, I wouldn't hold anything against you. I like my comments to be this way. B. "That's dirty because the webcam show will be sexual"? Because, again, no, but I can assure you that the last thing I want is FLCL proving to the world that he can strip. I'm quite sure that'd be a claim no-one wants proof of.

I never really had much contact with him, although I'm the kind of person that browses guilds and anything that sets off my bullshit detector I file away under "highly unlikely scenarios" and rarely return.
He did seem to be a sore on the guild, but not to me personally. Whatever works best for the guild.
I'm just sad I won't get to see him kamehameha something on webcam, even if it was a horrible visual edit.

Hm...college inactivity has me missing such things. Forgive me for not being active lately. This is rather interesting that he would be banned. I don't know all the details, save for what he had already apologized for. I suppose, however, it's for the best, especially after hearing my esteemed colleagues speaking to the same effect.
I will attempt more activity during the summer. smile
