kittyway7 I'd say that trumpet is generally jazzier (of course I'm rather partial towards it considering it's I play) but that it also takes a good band overall to get that sound i concur

Humori Tx TrumpetChick Any instrument can be jazzy. It's the player that makes it jazzy. It all depends on the player. So true. We have a clarinet in our jazz band.. And shes "jazzier" then the altos. WHAT?!? I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET INTO MY SCHOOL'S JAZZ BAND FOR AGES!! I can play the music. BETTER THEN MOST PEOPLE IN THE BAND. but they say "clarinets don't play jazz" that's a lie. and I'm mad. sorry about that... sweatdrop but I agree with TrumpetChick. 3nodding

fatcheehcs what the hell kinda assesment is that? first thing is they both make a jazz band. i'm not sure waht exactly denotes jazziness, you can stick even an oboe in a jazz band and it works. both instruments offer different qualities to the music. typically trumpet has shout sections and saxes get really cool solis. just how it is. tue to an extent....youcant exactly put a frnch horn in a jazz band and have that honr sound hjazzy...neither can a glokenshpiel...or a gong ^^

as far as the origin of the instrument, sax is far more 'jazzy' (especially tenor) And being a player of both alto sax and trumpet in a jazz band, i can fairly say that, while both are necessary for a jazz band, and neither is more important than the other, the fact that the sax (like mentioned by someone else) was invented around the jazz era to play that style of music, and the fact that saxes get the solo/soli(s), you can say that it is jazzier. love it or hate it, its still a fact.

It's up to the person! I personally play the alto saxophone and don't think I have a jazz tone, my tone is more concert. That is why I say it's up to the player not the instrument

well it depeds how you look at it
The trumpet is better when your playing high but not so high that like one note blows your lips out
the sax is better when its low i hate the alto but i like the bari and tenor
