I used to write fanfictions a few years back. I haven't really had time for it though but I did have a Cinderella parody going that I was pretty proud of at the time.

I started reading one like that last night, and it was scary eek anyway, I don;t like that stuff either, but yeah. I like the clean stuff, I usually skip over the rest, and i do not describe sex in anyform in my writing. I pull a mercedes lackey (they went to bed, but didn't sleep for a long time) so yeah. blaugh

LMAO pulling a Mercedes Lackley rofl
She's good about getting around it isn't she? The worst is someone like Anne Bishop where she almost forces you to read it because its tied into the plot. Of course this is coming from the person who owns four of her books... redface
As for fan fiction... my turn into epic monsters that take on a life of their own... nevermind no one ever comments on them, probably because they never finish...

...I hate fanfiction.

No, seriously. I hate the stuff. Sometimes I'll go out and read it, and if I find someone whose any good, I tell them in the review to drop it and write original fiction. It's a good starting point for writing, a nice place to hone your skills while you're starting out, like literate RPing is, but once you get to the point where you're writing novel-quality...well, mini novels based off a show or books series intended for ten year olds, you need to log off ff.net and write you own stuff.

Seriously. I know I've been tempted now and then to do a fanfic, just because the readership is so wide and it's easier to get reviewers, but ultimately, there's no way it could be as good as original fiction. The one exception may be when:

You're using very, VERY secondary characters in the series. Ones who only had, like, three lines in the book or entire series and a name as the leads, and the only time everyone's favorite leads show up is in passing. It basically allows you to write fanfiction without worrying about butchering the creator's vision too much, and allowing you to play around in the universe you'd only wished you'd created. Also, it helps you avoid Mary-Sues, since there are already some limitations set in on how people view the character.

Seriously. That's about the only kind I read. I'll read an Evangelion fanfic about Kensuke Aida, but if it has Asuka, Rei, Shinji, or Misato starring it I'll click the little X.

...I can't believe I'm the only person here who hates fanfics. XD Man, I've never fit into net culture...

I love reading fanfics so I can understand how other people write and make mine understandable. redface I also kinda study the big authors so I know how their worlds work... My stories are going better now. xd I still think they suck though....

I tend to vary in and out of stories.... stare Like I will stick to one story then get writers block then switch stories... 4laugh Actually I think it's easier that way though it bugs the peole reading the stories... sweatdrop

I've grown out of fanfiction. I used to write a lot of anime-based fanfiction when I was twelve, but I never posted (or finished) any of my work. I'm glad I didn't, because that was really when I was starting to write properly and it was all crap. I can't deal with fanfiction now - it's too limited in scope for me, and I don't like the thought of having a group of strangers flaming me and screaming 'Mary-Sue!' the minute I post something.
As for reading it, I've almost given up. I've found a couple of good fanfics, but they're a minority.

Hmmm... I find a few fan fics that are good but for some reason they get old when they don't update for awhile.... man I'm a hypocrite! I kinda find most fan fics aren't that good... Though I must say atleast they tried... I kinda use fanfic as a... uh.... hide away... or haven... It's so easy to just read other peoples daydreams and know you're not the only one who wishes life where different.
