So, I'm sure almost all of you have said it before, Final Fantasy VII has thr greatest storyline ever.

But I disagree. It has a good storyline, it's my favorite of the Final Fantasy series. But it does not have the best storyline ever.

My reasoning:
A storyline is meant to propell the action of the game, in Final Fantasy VII it accomplishes this. A storyline is also meant to make sense, this is where FFVII fails. The storyline is has so many sub-plots and branches it's too convoluted to be the great storyline it could be. Too much was left unexplained and open to interpretation for much of anything to be confirmed as true in the universe of the game. A good storyline shouldnt leave so much up to the viewer's own ideas, it's like 'Mad Libs: The Game'.

If anyone can disagree with me, please, post your argument for the storyline and I'll make sure to respond.

If a story line is too well explained it su** , the Grate bout FFVII is that you HAVE TO THINK ABOUT IT!

The best storyline ever is a matter of opinion.

the plot makes sence to me. maybe your mind just cant comprehend a story as complex as vii's? just because a story is complex does not make it a poor story. the sub plots and the such add to the story, and you have to hunt down some parts of it, such as the videos on the history of the cetra you can find, if you dont look, you wont find them.

It isn't so much as an inability to grasp Final Fantasy VII's story (which is actually very easy, I assure you), but there are also OTHER things in a story that matters. Final Fantasy VII had a complex story, yes, but nowhere NEAR as complex as Xenogears. For some, it IS the best storyline they've experienced in game, ever. Others, they've seen better, but still enjoy FFVII's story.

Technically, it also depend on how the story is presented, and what YOU, the gamer, want to get from a story. I'm big on character development, and I have in the past (and even to this day) felt that several game's stories sucked because they either had extremely poor or practically non-existent character development.

How great a game's story does not depend on how much research you have to do to understand it. There are some games out there where you have to do a hell of a lot of research to even get an idea of what the story is about, while others shove it in your face all at once. I can understand what you mean, by discovering new tidbits here and there which does add to the story, but not everyone plays the game the same way, or for the same reasons.

Basically, what's most important with stories, good or bad, is how it is presented to the audience. Most RPGs have a story revolving around a male (occasionally female, but it is very rare) protagonist who must go on a quest, gather allies, and save the world from one super villain. Cloud's story, and that of Final Fantasy VII's in general, was presented in a much for fresh, unique manner than what you'd see in the Grandia series. Final Fantasy VII did have some cliche's, but it presented them in a manner that was much more well accepted and different than, well, what you see in those really old games (classic ones, both good and bad alike).

Don't assume that just because someone doesn't agree with you a hundred percent that their point of view or how they play/view the game must somehow be defective. confused There are still many things in Final Fantasy VII that do NOT make sense to this day, mostly because nothing from the official sources have necessarily touched up on the subject, or some official sources might contradict one another.

I'd have to say, I'm into stories with many plot holes. It leaves for alot of aloofness and discovery. Like for instance, urban legends. No one knows if Big Foot is real, or that a Tsuchinoko is a real animal, but we can always dream right? Stories with plot holes such as this give you sorta like an expressive way of looking at it. You eitehr believe it or you don't.

I wouldn't say it's the best storyline (A little Cliche at some points) but still, it was pretty good! A good plotline, though, is the show heroes! Excellent show!

Same with me

Prove that Final Fantasy 7 does not have the greatest storyline ever by giving us something to compare it with. I've played through FF7 approximately 15-20 times. It took me 15-20 times and reading the FF7 Ultimania Omega to understand the plot throughly - after reading which I played the game a 21th time and enjoyed it even more. FF7 remains the only game I can watch someone else play, it's a great topic for discussion, and the sub-plots draw you in as if the world actually exists.

If you don't understand the PLOT read the Final Fantasy 7 Ultima Omega here (Wake up!): http://faqs.ign.com/articles/698/698416p1.html
