I don't understand how you all think this. Whilst you do get called gai-jin (mostly by little kids) the japanese seem to look to the west. My friend Kyuma told me that if you are asian and not from japan then yes you do get discriminated against but black and white people are not hated. In fact it's teh opposite. I've been to three different cities in Japan and each shop is copying the 'ghetto' style of clothing, beyonce knowles and hip hop and rap is huge here. Black people seem to be very 'cool' as are westerners. THe only thing you get is stared at by everyone but I haven't seen any racism and I'm working here.

I'm not really sure on the racist issue either. I am not by any means an expert on Japan and I've never been there, but from what I gathered they treat foreigners with much respect.
The dislike of foreigners is something that was anchored in japanese cultured in the past as the policy of the country was to shut itself off from the exterior, but it's gradually leaving with globalization and especially the fact that many western things are looked upon as "cool".

My mother told me about this. Even though i am half black and half asian they still will reject me.(like my father's mother does to my mom)
I am willing to live with that i use to it my grandma trys to avoid conversations with me so i guess thats what its like in japan. I know that there are some peopel who would love to have an african american friend!

I would still travel to Japan even if they wouldnt like me. Ive lived near the mexico/u.s border my entire life and have encountered many people that like or dont like me becasue of my skin color. I have seriously white skin, blonde hair, and blue eyes so i stand out pretty well at school and other places.
If someone is going to call you names just ignore it, they arent worth arguing with if they are going to make fun of you because of your skin color.

Yeah, Japan doesn't like foreigners, I knew that. But I never thought it was so specific.
I'd rather just tour there... not live there. lol

this is amazingly grotesque it is so crude and undefiable RACISISM in japan!!!!! AGAINST US??? there biggest fans i am truly truly sickened by this it is distugusting and malicious how could they do that it is amazingly stupid and what is their problem with us?????very shocking
