Konichiwa I thought i should start a thread about what probably got us all into Japanese culture. Anime and Manga. First off to get things going what is your favorit series or manga artist. Mine is InuYasha for anime and Ken Akamastsu or Rumiko Takahashi for my favorite manga artist.

Also, I hate Inuyasha. D:

My favorite mangaka is...erm...I have too many.

Watching
anime is entertaining;
it helps to practice my Japanese
listening skills.

Reading
manga is entertaining;
it helps to practice my Japanese
reading skills.

But then
what is entertaining,
and helps to practice my Japanese
writing skills?

Actually, anime and manga aren't what inspired me to start learning Japanese or get into the culture or anything like that. It was my grandfather.

x3 I started watching anime and reading manga afterward. They are only entertainment for me. I prefer manga to anime. xD

Trying to learn Japanese from them, I feel would be more damaging to my education in the language than anything else. For reading and listening practice, it is okay, but it's not a good idea. xP

I learn Japanese because I'm interested in other languages, becoming a linguist possibly, and I love other cultures. Japanese is especially interesting to me.

While I do like anime, I definatly, like others here, do not see it as a tool to learn the language. I can understand reading some manga in Japanese, or watching anime in Japanese to try to understand some things, but it's not a good learning tool.

What annoys me are the otakus who only learn Japanese for anime, and want to go to Japan for anime. Those people will be laughed at and shunned.

I learn Japanese from Anime. But, after I started learning, I learned to respect the culture more. I learned alot of things about the Japanese high school routine and what to say before eating a meal and other things. Some people actually ask me if im Japanese! xd

Also, when there aren't any subtitles, I can still understand part of a conversation.

I planned on living in Japan in the future. But not for anime and manga. I want to persue my dream there.

I still love anime and manga though! 3nodding
