"Hello!"
"...Hello..."
"Do you know who this is?"
"...No..."
"It's Grandma Juanita! How are you?"
"...Good...?"
"Is your mommy home!"
"...Yes..."
That was an ACTUAL conversation between my grandmother and me. Ageism, quite frankly, is annoying. It never ends. If you're older than someone, someone will treat you like a baby. No matter what age you are. It's quite annoying. I try and treat the younger kids I sometimes look after more like adults, because I remember how annoying it was back then to be treated like a baby and I hate how some adults who will help me look after those same kids patronize them like crazy. They understand more than we think.
I'm 15 so I get a lot of ageism. Even younger kids are treated better than me because they're young. I'm 15, a "stupid freshman" in the eyes of many people. ((Even though most people tell me I'm their favorite freshman because I'm the least annoying and "hyper"...And I won't be a freshman anymore on Wednesday)) I get a lot of crap. Everything I do, everything I say is considered 'young' and 'immature' in the eyes of older people. Sure, I'm young. I know I haven't made enough mistakes to know what to do and I know that some of the things I do are dumb and not thought through (at all) and some of the opinions I form are based on the opinions of others, but I still have my own opinions and will stick by them once made. However, some adults treat me like a child and aren't willing to listen to my opinions and my viewpoints because I'm young. They write everything off as 'mistakes of youth'.
So now that my rant is over, here's the question I will pose at you for discussion, which was the point of this whole rant. Even if it got a lot longer than it was supposed to confused
When have you ever felt ageism in your life? Have you ever felt you were considered "stupid" or "immature" by someone younger?
