if i run a campaign, id make it either:
a. Point-But Base 8 + 40 points OR b. Roll 8 sets of 5d6(drop lowest 2 dice)
it's kinda better this way in my opinion. mrgreen

I kind of prefer if my players have high stats for 2 reasons.
1. They are HEROES. My players are not supposd to be normal people, they are the newest heroes, and will be saving the world, or at least a few kingdoms.
2. I'm not going to "take it easy on them". Especially in campaigns with larger numbers of players. I'm going to be tossing some pretty nasty creatures at them, and usually a main villian will be several levels higher than they are, and continue to level as they do. I'd like to see them live though.

I DMed one game and found a fairly simple way to avoid rolling the 4d6s and also avoid doing point buying. I gave everyone a set number of points (86 seemed fair), no stat could be below 3 and they had to be verified with me before continuing, so that I can notice against people going like 18 18 18 3 11 18 or something like that. It's a fairly decent idea, 86 is 14 points more then average stat scores (4d6 max = 24 x 6 = 144 / 2 = 72 + 14 = 86) which keeps for some well rounded yet not overpowered characters.

Well, you're supposed to drop the low die. So it's only 3d6 for stats. A game that ran on 4d6 for stats would be CRAZY!

I much prefer a 28 point buy system but that because it's far easly to muchken your charters ahead of time if you no for a fact what there stats are going to be.
