Vengeance of Night

Nightwing the Renegade

Botanical Beauty

Playfully reaching out to contact Gothams heroes, the Bat and the Bird, had been risky indeed, and daresay perhaps foolish, especially with his oncoming plans on the rise, but oh how he thought it was worth it, just to put his mark on the city, just to get their panties all twisted up in knots. Joker had fled his former underground lair quickly, certain his call to the heroes would have stirred up some trouble, retrieving his latest blueprints, he had emptied himself out past them, traversing the sewage systems continuously until he had arrived out into the cool night time air, swallowed up by Gothams encroaching darkness. Ultimately he had depart, no need to have them interfere and muss up his plans. If and when they managed to arrive, ( for which no doubt they would if Ivy retraced her steps) they'd have noticed the subway terminal he had formerly occupied was vacant, all met with little resistance. Wherever he had left off too, he had gone in a hurry, nary a sign left behind to show he was there in the first place. with his lair compromised, assured the dynamic duo (as they were) were hot on his trail, Joker needed a new plan of attack, a new place to hang his hat, unaware in his expedient departure, that he'd lost a faded looking business card with the image of a sad clown wearing a colorful derby the name 'The Crack Up' above its head, on the back, written in barely legible chicken scratch, 'For a good time' a clue to his whereabouts?

It was not long until the three had located the abandoned core of Joker's lair. It was after passing by warning signs and death threats is when they all knew they were approaching the disturbed man's den. Once inside, each of them could visibly see the cluttered surroundings of where the Joker had supposedly took refuge in. Walking a few feet forward, he taps onto his left gauntlet activating his detective vision, looking for clues of anything that he could find. From under his foot a roach's spine would crunch as he began walking, crouching down to inspect dirty aluminum cans and grimy papers stacked with others that seemed fresh off the ground. Turning his head over to each of his sides, he examines more of the floor's pattern. He stands, looking over at the cluttered mess of a table full of trash and scattered grid papers. Nodding his head, he turns to look back around at the others. "Gone. He must have took his plans and blueprint schematics with him." He glances over at Nightwing who seemed to be supporting Ivy and wielding the lit torch flare with him. He nods to him as he turns once again leading the way where Ivy had last seen the Scarecrow. Climbing the sloped dirt mound, he assisted Nightwing to bring Ivy to the top as they trekked onward through the darkened chambers. Good time had passed when his attention was caught by a circular display of burnt out candles. This must have been the place. He scans the area once again, looking to find any luck of something that could fill in the gaps of what he doesn't already know. There, a blood splatter in the center of the manifold. His brows tightened, registering his mind that the circumstance was unorthodox even for the fear obsessed doctor. However, his actions and motives weren't too far fetched from what he was usually capable to conjure. He knelt down to the contaminated dirt, touching the dried blood with his fingers while they latched onto them like glue. He concluded the fresh thickness of the substance had not more than one hour dried since this blood was reciprocated. "Hmm..." From where he knelt he began to speak, "Wherever this creature you mentioned taking Crane as a host, he's too far gone now." He rubs his armored fingers together as the dried crust of dirt flakes off to the ground. "From the blood centered among these candles it indicates Crane having practiced a ritual--a blood ritual. Most likely conducted from the Dark Arts-- he must have called upon something." He stands up, glaring over at Ivy. "Something that had possessed him to make you see things that you wouldn't normally be effected by from his usual toxins. Something sinister that was summoned from whatever book he recited his ritual from." He walked up to her, bearing down a few feet to make contact with her red reflected eyes. "Tell me what else you saw here."

As they delved deeper within the tunnels, Nightwing felt the clenching chill that drafted along the dusty air. Without a moment's notice, they would soon find what they were looking for. Batman immediately began sweeping the area, processing the investigation. Nightwing, setting Ivy aside would help the detective in his efforts. No luck, however. Seems like it was already immediately abandoned, reconciled back to it's original state. By the end of his foot, there was an aluminum can and he firmly kicked it aside as he looked at the two others. "Gone. He must have took his plans and blueprint schematics with him." "I suppose we keep going, one of these two are bound to leave off something." He glances at Batman, picking up the nod as a signal to continue. He would then reacquaint himself with Ivy as a support for stability. Once more they reach another location, he carries the weary flare over the disturbing sight. "Wherever this creature you mentioned taking Crane as a host, he's too far gone now." "Unless he went deeper in the tunnels, he could have gotten gone out from several exits." Batman nodded in agreement, "From the blood centered among these candles it indicates Crane having practiced a ritual--a blood ritual. Most likely conducted from the Dark Arts-- he must have called upon something.--Something sinister that was summoned from whatever book he recited his ritual from."" He watches as Batman walked over to Ivy. "Whatever that took over Crane, this is it. We can only do so much until it begins striking." He tosses the almost dead flare away, crossing his arms as he nodded over his thoughts. "One thing's for sure, Gotham's going to take a beating... One way or the other."

Ivy, to put it lightly was a little dismayed that when they'd arrived, Joker was no where to be found, despite his hesitation to kill her, she knew he only hadn't proceed because she hadn't been putting up a fight. Had he been there, while Batman and Nightwing were on the case, he would have been dealt with and sent right back to Arkham, another nail tugged from their coffin lid, but now... The headache that was this mess only grew. Allowing her to stand on her own, she watched the pair work, scanning the area for clues, coming away with little. Wetting her lips, Ivy shook her head, "--I'm sorry, I'm of little use here guys, I lost my balance up there..." she uttered, pointing towards a section of tunnel, where rotting wood had collapsed under her weight, down from it a small dirt slope rife with rubble, where another section had collapsed decades prior. "--I fell and landed here, I don't think Joker wanted me or anyone around, because instead of killing me, which he easily could have, he took me immediately out of the tunnels. Call it a hunch, woman's intuition, but I think he's planning something big, I can't be certain but his unaccounted absence, letting his portion of the city be over thrown, it's like he doesn't care, like none of it matters...and then there's Scarecrow now..." shaking her head, she frowned, swatting away at another invisible foe that silently attacked.

Before long they'd retraced Pams steps perfectly, following her exact path until they came upon the ring of hushed candles, their investigation proceeding further. Reviewing the details, expressing the situation just as she had seen it firsthand, sounding as if he'd been a fly on the wall all along, he finally turned toward her, "--Something that had possessed him to make you see things that you wouldn't normally be effected by from his usual toxins. Something sinister that was summoned from whatever book he recited his ritual from, tell me what else you saw here," anything to help. Pushing past the shadows that threatened to swallow her mind with madness, Ivy jogged her memory, re-enacting everything, moving away she stopped and stood right where she had been when Crane attacked, "--I stood here, stopped and watched as the final passage of his book was recited, his blood spilled. From the place where his blood touched the soil, an energy, smoke, something unfurled out from the earth, it surrounded him completely, losing him within... And then when it dissipate, Crane... Changed, like there was just something wearing his skin, everything about him was different, sure... He looked the same, but the way he moved, almost appeared to float along the Earth. With the ritual concluded, the book slammed shut on its own, and trailed behind him like a dog on a leash, like it was connected to him. And then he just looked at me, and I felt like I was drowning in horror and anxiety, weighted down with madness." and then Nightwing spoke, putting in his two cents, drawing Ivys attention, "--Whatever that took over Crane, this is it. We can only do so much until it begins striking. One thing for sure, Gothams going to take a beating, one way or the other."

Lowering her head, fists clenched at her side, she continued, "--The frightening thing, is that It only took me seconds to succumb... I'm not sure how to stop it, this feeling of falling... I've never felt this sensation before, I despise it... I want a sound mind again, I..." hugging her arms, tears bordering her eyes, fear for once filtering to the surface, exposed, "--I'm afraid, I'm afraid I'll lose my mind completely, that I'll be consumed with madness, that I won't be able to discern friend from foe, that I'll lose myself, that my own monster within me will take control..." looking up quickly, meeting the eyes of both men she firmly broke through the fear, with sound mind continued, "--It's bad enough if armed fear filled citizens of Gotham take to the streets, but If I lose my s**t completely, if I become careless and insane like the Joker, and go on a rampage, please kill me... Or stop me by any means necessary, Please, I... I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I killed anyone and with the arsenal I have at my fingertips, a mindless berserker me could kill hundreds easily..." Certainly Pam had been a criminal, but she had yet to cross that barrier, she had in the past damaged the city, but for all her hurt, her damage could always be undone. Chewing on her nail, Ivy nod towards them, "--As I was telling Nightwing Batman, You both should allow me to confront Scarecrow, maybe I can get the book away from him, if Joker is indeed planning something, you'll both need sound minds to stop him... Mine... Is already fractured, I doubt he can make my visions any worse then they already are," somehow she didn't believe that, there was a lot about this new Crane she didn't know, but she had to convince them, facing off against something that could warp your mind so easily. "--Or..." she paused, shaking her head and laughing, "--Nevermind, I must be crazier then I thought..." if they pressed her, she'd reply, "--Somehow we convince... Yeah this is crazy, we convince Joker to stop Scarecrow, after all Crows rampage concerns your health and wellbeing Batman, Knowing his obsession with you, and his obsession to be the one to kill, or be killed by you. I doubt Joker would willingly allow Crane to take away the pleasure of driving you mad, he's always believed it's his right, and his alone. If anyone can walk away unscathed against Scarecrows new attacks, it's gotta be Joker, I think he'd revel in a couple new friends joining him inside his head, he could stop Crane, get the book, and then we could turn the tables on Joker, stop him before he can proceed with his own plan. You'll have to convince him, unless you have other thoughts?"

((Hey guys, if you'd like to re-read the end of my previous post I altered it slightly, left a little clue to Jokers whereabouts))

Vengeance of Night

Nightwing the Renegade

Botanical Beauty

Completely unaware that he had left behind a clue the heroic duo could easily exploit, Joker had fled the Subway tunnels in a hurry, content... Determined not to be caught and thrown back in Arkham so easily, not yet. Pressing through the raging storm that flowered deep and dark within the night time sky, threatening to drown the city in heavy rainfall, Joker closely coveted his plans, tucking them under his tailored pinstripe coat safely. Before him, clouded in hazy neon lights burned the name ''The Crack Up' an unsavory little location tucked away neatly in the Slums, with such an incredibly odd combination of delights, Comedy house, and Brothel... The name a play over losing your s**t, and various acts of bare assed perversion, the mad clowns Perfect blend of carnal passions. Outside, a couple moved to perform their own carnal passion in the alley to the left, while one man threw up whatever he'd been drinking out into the gutters. Entering the building without the bouncer doing much more then opening the door for him, he looked about drawing everything in.

Tonight was no different, the building was in full swing, up on the stage glowing with the pale color of the spotlight stood a half naked woman sporting little more then a g-string, stilettos, and a curly Magenta wig, face painted up like a two dollar whore while she cracked jokes fit only for an adult audience. The interior hung heavy with smoke, the bar lined full with men drinking, forever trapped in 70s funeral decor, as if the previous occupants had been such an establishment, and the new owners hadn't bothered to change it. Casually moving through the front parlor as if he owned the place, the corset clad Bartender 'Candy' would nod gently towards the Clown Prince, he returning the same gesture as she made a quick call on the phone, as if ensuring everything was ready for him. Passing the sinful revelry, joking over how it looked like a young Saddam and Gomorra, Joker left the crowded hazy scene, stage girl cracking a joke that made the madman smile "--What's the difference between a Hooker and an Onion? Give up? You don't cry when you cut a Hooker!" shutting out the hoots and hollers, as she thanked the crowd, Joe shut the door to his private room at the top of the stairs, the interior choking with decadent hues of red and gold, swarmed with images of painted voluptuous women, and fat bare assed bronze Cherubs, the scent sex masked with heavy floral perfume. Smoothing his wild emerald hair back from off his pale face, he locked the door with a resounding click, and set to work fussing over his plans once more, hopefully un disturbed.

Slivers of movement displayed as white noise in the background, creatures that lived within the chambers roamed freely-- put off by the intruders that broke the peace of their home. The red flare lit a particular wall, leaning against it were wooden boards and 2x4 planks. As Ivy talked, Nightwing could hear minute squeals and squeaks coming from behind them. Walking aside to a brim opening of the wood he crouched, peeking in to see what could be creating those sounds. He activates his night-vision through his mask, looking into the arched opening under the space of leaning boards. Under it, a huddle of perhaps 10-20 rats were piled together bugging off of each other. Each one seemed equally frightened as the other and every time one falls out the pack, the rats would immediately rush back in. They would begin to notice him, squealing loudly more than ever as they backed further away and eventually dispersed from the site. "--I'm afraid, I'm afraid I'll lose my mind completely, that I'll be consumed with madness, that I won't be able to discern friend from foe, that I'll lose myself, that my own monster within me will take control..." "Something tells me that you're not the only one feeling the same way." "--As I was telling Nightwing Batman, You both should allow me to confront Scarecrow, maybe I can get the book away from him, if Joker is indeed planning something, you'll both need sound minds to stop him... Mine... Is already fractured, I doubt he can make my visions any worse then they already are," "--And as I was telling Ivy, doing something like that would be too dangerous. Regardless of your degraded mental state." "Or...--Nevermind, I must be crazier then I thought..." He stood up, walking past the candles and stood a good distance to face her. "No, tell us what you're thinking." Then she spills it, her devious plan that could be clever enough to actually work. He looked at her, somewhat amazed to have foiled a plan like that in her claimed current state."--The only question that could be even more mad than what was said, is: how would we do it?"

His brows hardened, taking every single word--every single detail she would give to mind. He searched for logic behind her explanation, interpreting her case to perhaps discover some type of reasoning. "--The frightening thing, is that It only took me seconds to succumb... I'm not sure how to stop it, this feeling of falling... I've never felt this sensation before, I despise it... I want a sound mind again, I..." He noticed the subtle tears running down the outlines of her cheeks. Reaching in from one of the pouches within his belt, he grabs a glass vile and proceeds to walk closer to Ivy; he then grabbed her by the arm to keep her steady. "It's fine. Don't be afraid." The opened vile sat below her cheekbone, awaiting for the tear-- or dew drop in this case to fall within the minuscule rim. Collecting the drop, he closes the glass container and deposits it within his utility storage. He returned his attention back to her as she continued, telling him about what her mental state could bring if she loses herself. Then, Nightwing would add on to her spoken account as rushing rats swarmed along their feet. Following Ivy's explanation for an option to consider, Nightwing would further add regarding her current mindset to be vulnerable. "Nightwing is right, with your mental condition it is too unpredictable." By then, his former protégé pressed Ivy to tell the second option. She tells it, the grand and almost loony scheme that could potentially derail the plans of the two sociopaths. In his mind he thinks over the situation; it would have to be methodical and precise if every step of this plan would actually go through. Through what she told him he fell silent, not speaking a word over her question. Instead he turned around walking off to the side of where a car rested. "Until I assess what happened to you, you need to stay low." His voice echoed around the walls as he stopped before the train car's frame and turned to the side again, glaring at her. "That was not a request." Tapping onto his cowl, his x-ray sensors activate allowing him to see through the constructs of rusted steel and iron. He continued as noises of squeaking filled behind the steel doors, noticing a faulty metal opening from below the train . "If this plan were to supposedly work and I mean if-- we would have to truly convince him that Crane is a bigger threat to me. By then, Joker should be remotely dispatched to encounter the Scarecrow and dispose the source of his power. Although,--" His hands caught onto the thin crevice of two separable doors from the subway car, he then pried it open with his brawn strength. Slyly reaching in, he catches the rat and yields it into his palm. The rodent would snatch then bite onto his hand and gauntlet as defense. Utilizing an empty explosive gel gun, the sharp nozzle bites into the small creature. The cartridge soon filled from it's blood, extending his arm he returned the animal back. Holding the gun-like spray, he finishes his sentence gruffly. "....There are alternatives."
