"O-oh!" said the rusalka, pulling idly at her hair to look at it. Like most of her, she hadn't quite been able to get a good impression of what color it was until she had seen a picture of a rusalka which had left an impression on her. The picture in her book had blue hair, and ever since, her hair had seemed to be the same shade of blue. Her eyes she couldn't see at all, but she tried hard to believe Eden when she said they were pretty.
She scrunched up her face at Eden's name suggestion. "I've had enough of the underworld, I think," she decided. "But I like the spring part! Lorenzo says it's going to be spring soon, and I'm really excited for it. By the time it's spring, Lorenzo says he might let me go outside, so then we can go shopping and stuff!"
She glanced at the bouquet Eden had brought back to life. "I mean, Valentine's Day was cool and all, but I want to see living flowers." Picking at the sleeves of her traditional Russian outfit, she added, "And Lorenzo bought me a lot of clothes already, but they're kind of uncomfortable." Apart from the formal outfit she was wearing, she had a whole closet full of garments that looked more like costumes.

Eden let out a soft peal of laughter when the other raevan mentioned being tired of the underworld. It seemed that Lorenzo was really pushing her soul's heritage on her, along with his own line of work. It wasn't necessarily a bad thing, but she didn't seem to enjoy it very much.
"Yeah! There's actually a park across from my house with lots of flowers. And we should go shopping for sure!" She watched as the rusalka fussed with her clothes. "We can get you some more ... modern things." She glanced toward the closet in the room, the door slightly ajar but not enough to see inside. No doubt it held more clothes very like what she already wore. Especially if Lorenzo had been the primary decision-maker in buying them.
Brushing a hand along her hair to smooth it, Eden sighed softly. "He seems a little- what's the word... Over-excited? Like... I don't know, kind of pushy?" She glanced back at the rusalka. "About the whole Russian thing, I mean." She gestured to both the girl's clothes and the room decorations for emphasis. Not that it made Lorenzo a bad dad, but... Ian had yet to really push her about anything related to her soul. He'd told her what it was, of course, but she didn't particularly care much beyond that.

"I can't wait!" the rusalka enthused. "We can get some more phone charms! And I can choose my own clothes, and, and..." She paused, scrunching up her face. "I'm actually not sure what else people do when they're shopping," she admitted. "But it sounds like so much fun!"
She bit her lip when Eden turned her attention to Lorenzo's insistence on learning about Russian culture. "I mean... He says it's important for me to learn it... And I guess I am his client? It's just really frustrating. It's supposed to be so important, but so far it's just kind of boring, and I can't even remember any Russian or anything, so it's a little embarrassing, too." She played with her hair distractedly. "I guess it's kind of like the name thing? I don't really know what's supposed to be important to me right now, I just know what doesn't feel super important. But he's trying really hard to teach me and all, so I feel bad, I guess." Puffing out her chest a little, she bragged, "He spends way more time on me than any of his other clients."
She floated over to her desk and picked up some paper, floating back and starting to draw while she talked. "Anyway, when he's with his other clients, it's even more boring than when he's trying to tell me about Russian history, so I'm trying to learn some hobbies. Drawing's fun! And Lorenzo says he'll get me an instrument if I want to learn music for therapy."

Eden licked her lips as the Rusalka talked, fluttering her lashes when a few stuck together to fix it. But when she started to get back on the subject of Lorenzo and his parenting styles, Eden's eyes snapped back to the floating girl before her. She'd been wandering a bit as she talked, but now the other Raevan had her very curious attention.
"Wait, 'client'?" Her own nose wrinkled this time and she crossed her arms. She didn't really appear to have heard much else in the way of details, but she'd certainly latched onto the strange way that Lorenzo seemed to think about his charge. "So... Okay, so- he seems a lot more like a doctor than a dad to me. I mean-" she shrugged one of her shoulders and cast her eyes skyward for a moment, "he doesn't think of you as his daughter or anything?"
Her frown remained firmly in place as she closely watched the Rusalka. That was really strange. Though Ian never actually called her 'daughter,' he had offered for her to call him 'dad' or any variation of the name since she'd come home. And her Aunt Caroline had a similar title, 'auntie,' which further hinted at a family. She kind of thought of herself as Ian's daughter, anyway, even if it seemed strange. From what she knew of families, daughters were typically born as infants, not teenager-looking people right away.

The rusalka frowned, perplexed. "Yeah, like you, right?" Lorenzo had never called Eden Ian's client, but she had just assumed that their situation was the same. But Eden didn't have to learn anything about Greek heritage or anything. It seemed strange to her, but the rusalka had just assumed that florists must handle things differently than necromancers.
Nervous now that Eden might think she was strange, the rusalka hastened to explain. "I mean, we're both nymphs, right? And my soul needed Lorenzo's help, so he rebirthed me, and since he's a necromancer, he has to make sure I adjust to being alive, just like all his other clients." It sounded like she was rattling off a spiel Lorenzo had told her before. "What did your soul want from Ian if she didn't want to be his client?" She tried to remember the word Eden had used, furrowing her brow. "Did your soul want a dad?"
"What's a dad?"

Grass-green eyes narrowed slightly as Eden listened, squinting in thought. "Mmh... No, I don't know. I don't know much about my- my soul." Now that she thought about it, she barely knew anything other than what her soul was: a nymph. But she hadn't really thought about it in that much depth; her soul had been alive, a living, breathing, thing with wants and desires. The entire concept made her head hurt and she closed her eyes, brows furrowed as she shook her head. There was a strange tightness in her chest and her rune felt tense and cold. The color of the floating symbol dulled slightly and her ribbon coiled a bit tighter.
She quickly latched onto the other topic of discussion. "A dad is... Well, usually it's a man with a child of his own, in this case a daughter. I'm technically Ian's daughter I think." She waved a hand to illustrate the somewhat general and convoluted concept. "I think usually they're actually born,- whatever that means- but... Yeah. And Ian's sister, Caroline, she's my aunt because she's his sister. There are a bunch of different family names and stuff like that." She flashed a bright grin, pushing those confusing thoughts about her soul aside for now. "Like us, we're kind of like sisters yeah? Both our souls are nymphs."

"I read about nymphs last night!" the rusalka said. "They're really cool. They never got old or sick or anything, and they were nature spirits who were symbols of life." She laughed, explaining, "Lorenzo has a ton of mythology books, and they're the least boring thing to read around here. Still, it was pretty hard to find anything about symbols of life in a necromancer's bookcase."
She listened as Eden explained dads. "Oh! It's another word for father, then. Lorenzo has a father." The rusalka had only met Lorenzo's mother, but his father had been briefly referenced a few times since she had come to live with him. She hadn't thought much about the arrangement, having assumed it was just a human thing. But now that she thought about it, many of his undead human clients also came in with living people, people who were probably somehow related to them.
"I guess we both have a lot to learn. It's weird, like, I don't know much about anything, but I also just kind of know other things." She grinned at Eden and said, "But if you don't mind how much I don't know yet, I'm happy to be your kind-of-sister!" She pumped her fist energetically. "I'll work hard to catch up."
Something struck her and she floated over to the few slim volumes on Greek mythology that were lying on her desk. "A-and if you want to learn about your soul more, I can let you borrow these if you want! Well, I guess I should ask Lorenzo, too." She glanced over at the doorway to the hall where surely Ian and Lorenzo were finishing their pancake piles by now. "I mean, it sounds like you have a bunch of cool hobbies, but in case you get bored, it could be cool to talk about books sometimes, too. At least until I learn to use my rectan-- laptop right."

Eden laughed softly and ran a hand along her hair and making sure her bun was still twisted correctly into place. She hovered near the window and watched as the rusalka gathered up the mythology books.
"Yeah, of course! I mean- I'm not much older than you, so we're not so far apart." She laughed and followed the other girl's gaze as she heard dishes clinking as they were no doubt being placed in the sink. It had been quite a while; those mounds of sugary food had likely taken a lot of effort to eat. But she knew that Ian had a monster of a secret sweet tooth at times and he'd probably eaten the whole thing or at least the vast majority of it. She wished briefly that she could as well, she wanted to taste sugary syrup and golden brown pancakes all fluffy and buttery. Not to mention the whipped cream and other processed things she'd seen in the fridge at home.
The rusalka's voice pulled her out of her shallow puddle of self-pity and she brightened again, wings fluttering. "That'd be great! I haven't found a lot online, I don't really know where to look yet. But books are probably a lot easier to learn from too."
"Eden? We should get going, unfortunately... Did you exchange phone numbers?" Ian poked his head around the frame of the bedroom door with that hallmark sheepish smile of his. Eden sighed, shoulders drooping slightly as she turned toward the other Raevan.
"Sorryyyy... But I don't think we did-- Here," she pulled out her phone and opened up a new contact form, handing it to the rusalka. "Go ahead and put your number in! And, uh, whatever name you want for now." She smiled and waited for it to be handed back. "I'll just text you and then you can add my number from there!"

"Lorenzo!" the rusalka said as he stepped into the room, a pace behind Ian. "Can Eden borrow your books for a little bit?" She held them out and explained, "You put them in my bookcase, so I read them, and I think it could be cool if she could, too, since they have stuff on nymphs and everything..." her voice trailed off uncertainly, "And we could talk about it?"
"Definitely!" Lorenzo agreed, sounding pleased that the rusalka had bothered to read the books in the first place. "All of the books in your room are meant for you to read or lend at your leisure."
The rusalka brightened and offered the books to Eden, taking her phone to input her own number and looking at it a little helplessly. Lorenzo started with the first three numbers, helping her jog her memory, and she put in the rest.
"I've been practicing memorizing it," she admitted sheepishly. "And for a name, uh..." She scrunched up her face, trying to remember, and typed in a few keys, handing back a contact listed as ":^)".
"My Russian teacher taught me how to make the face," she explained proudly.
"I'll help you if you don't know how to add Eden yet," Lorenzo reassured. Turning to Ian, he said, "Thank you so much for coming, and for all your help up till now," and to Eden, "And it was very nice to meet you."
"Really nice!" the rusalka agreed eagerly. "Please come again!"

Eden happily took the books while the rusalka entered her phone number into the contact form, eagerly awaiting when she would hand it back. The little face made her laugh, "it's cute!" She smiled warmly at Lorenzo when he thanked her and Ian for coming, and then beamed brighter at the rusalka when she echoed his sentiments.
"Yeah of course! I had a lot of fun, too." She glanced at Ian as she hefted the books in her arms, wings fluttering happily. "Maybe like... next week or something? Or ooh, halloween maybe! You guys'll probably do something cool then right? I mean, you're a necromancer." She gave Lorenzo a pointed, expectant smile, then shrugged her shoulders.
"Well, we don't want to lock them into anything," Ian chided gently. "But you have her number now, so you can plan things anytime." He placed a hand on her back to gently guide her toward the door, shaking Lorenzo's hand once they were on the front step.
"Thanks again, hope to see you again soon. And good luck," he added with a lighthearted chuckle. After all, they were very much in the same boat - two relatively normal guys trying to adjust to new Raevans. And from what he could tell, the rusalka seemed similar to Eden in temperament, if not slightly peppier.
"Bye! I'll text you in the car when I have both hands!"
