No, I'm sorry. There were girls in my High School who cut themselve and did the long sleeve thing and the lots of bracelets thing, I could still tell. If you pay any attention to a person, you can tell.

I was looking for patterns today for my other thread :
http://www.gaiaonline.com/guilds/viewtopic.php?page=4&t=2551477#55240370 (If you are interested in making clothers for your kids you can find plenty of crocheting & knitting patterns here and dont worry even though I wasnt able to post any pics of the outfits they are all appropreate (sp?) for young children I havent posted anything that I wouldnt allow my own childeren to wear) when I found this : http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=25279.0 it is intitled TODDLER HALTER TOP. It is a pattern that I would consider ok for some one who was like 20 to wear but not a little girl I mean the girl that is wearing it looks younger than my daugther(who by the way is 4 years old) and I would allow my child to wear that for all the money in the world. Please look at it and let me know what you think about this little "toddler halter top" thing.

EDIT: Ok I found another one this is what I would consider a some what approprite halter top for a small child to wear well here it is:http://www.margarethubertoriginals.com/newpage3.htm

EDIT #2: Ok I found another one well here it is:http://www.home.swbell.net/amjack/tube.htm

Okay, to get back to the topic:

My own opinion suprises me here, as I've always considered myself very liberal and open.
Slutty and revealing clothing on anyone not in high school or older digusts me. I hated everything in the universe about living in Georgia, except for the fact that being a conservative, mainly Christian society, I didn't see a lot of this.
But back in Colorado and here in Washington, where they are more liberal parents, I see it more. So in a way, it seems like some parents feel that it's a way of letting their child express themselves.
I saw a maybe 8-9 year old girl in a mall wearing a black miniskirt, kneehigh boots and a midriff shirt. It was appauling. She looked like a hooker. Even seeing a teen or adult dressed like that would gross me out, but to see it on a little girl who should still be playing with Barbies and drooling over teenybopper bands is awful.
A little while ago, Gymboree came out with a toddler girl line that had faux fur leopard print jackets and miniskirts, with matching leather boots. Other toddler clothing I've seen involves really strappy tank-tops that show tons of skin. They're all mock-versions of adult clothing that is meant to be provocative, and that's the main reason I find it horrid for children. They don't need to be dressed (or dressing) in a manner that on an adult would be considered provocative, sexual, revealing or slutty, because it's just as bad on a kid, but in a worse way! They're meant to be cute and innocent... butterflies, Barbie, Dora the Explorer, flowers... that's what should be on toddler girl clothing.
Now, the tween crap... ugh! What teen needs a shirt that says, "Your Boyfriend Wants Me" or "Naughty"? All those imply are that cheating and being bad are good things, and it's ... well, gross. We're supposed to be teaching them morals and self-respect, and instead they walk around looking like hookers with shirts that imply that they're easy. That's fantastic.
Obviously the media is partially to blame, because otherwise these products wouldn't be so popular. There was a company who made THONGS for elementary-age girls, and in Target, I just saw bras made for girls who don't even have breasts yet. The media pushes growing up too fast and looking beautiful. The Bratz dolls are the worst thing in the media, IMHO, as not only are their outfits provocative, slutty and awful, but their makeup is thick and gaudy, and even their expressions shout, "I'm too cool to care!"
At the same time, it IS very much the parents' job to instill good morals and respect into your child, but when everything they see flashes, "Look sexy!" "Pump up your breasts!" "Skin is in!" it's very hard. You also can't push TOO hard or your child will just rebel. The goal isn't to keep these things FROM children but to teach them why they aren't self-respectful, why they aren't cool, and that they are JUST a fad, and they won't be any "less cool" for not dressing like a slut.
No matter what, it's a fad. Women in the 60's went without bras, and girls nowadays will again realize it's more fun to go play with My LIttle Pony than it is to worry if your lipstick clashes with your shoes.

I completely agree with everything you have said here. Did anyone look at the links I posted if you do please post any comments you might have on what you see.

I looked at the links (I couldn't get the third to work).
That first one is awful. The gauging is so large you can see straight through it, and the same with the skirt on the second one!
The second one wouldn't be that bad, except I suspect that the back is really low, like, below the bottom of the shoulderblades.
Do people not get that the point of clothes is to COVER you?

EDIT: Ok I found another one its not as skimpy as the first but its still inapprpreate(sp?) well here it is:http://www.margarethubertoriginals.com/newpage3.htm

EDIT #2: Ok I found another one well here it is:http://www.home.swbell.net/amjack/tube.htm

The first one is too see through too short, and I HATE a triangle cut top on a little kid Triangle cut tops are for showing off boobs.

The second one is not inappropriate at all. JUST BECAUSE it's a halter top does not make it inappropriate.

Lissa has a halter top style summer dress with a HUGE applique watermelon on it that goes all the way to her neck. She also had a green all one piece haltar top (meaning it didn't tie you slipped the haltar neck around her head) that also went all the way up and covered her stomach.

I don't see anything wrong with showing shoulder blade. I fail to see how that is any way skimpy or sexy.

Sorry about that I mixed up #2 & #3 what I was trying to show you with #1 & #2 was an inappropriate halter top (#1) vs. an appropriate halter top (#2) for a small chid to wear. sweatdrop
