Most films in Sweden keep their English title - supposedly it sounds cooler and more youth-ish that way.

So they changed "Miss Congeniality" to "Miss Secret Agent".

Still a cool English name - but a name Swedes are able to pronounce rolleyes

In France it became Miss Detective. Better, because Miss Congeniality is too close to Congenital in French.

In Germany it was called 'Miss Undercover'.

In Denmark, it's "Agent Catwalk". I think most people outside America probably don't know that "Miss Congeniality" is an actual term.
"Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle" became "American High," I assume because there is no White Castle in Denmark.
I thought it was really interesting that the titles were still English, but changed.

It's not a movie, but the TV series "Cheers" is "Sam's Bar" in Denmark. I didn't really understand why, but my fiancé swears that "Skål" would be a really bad title.... hehe

I just remembered that in Denmark "Tristan and Isolde" became just "Tristan." I thought that was really weird! I mean, Isolde is still in the movie....

"Open Season" became "Boog & Elliot."

The movie known pretty much every where else as "Léon" is called "The Professional" in the US.

That's all I can think of for now....

The title of "Dante's Peak" was translated in Spanish as "Un lugar llamado Dante's Peak" (A place called Dante's Peak), even though "El pico de Dante" makes more sense. I once saw that was because, in Chilean Spanish, "El pico de Dante" means "Dante's d**k". rofl

So far, the only rather accurate translations I know about are from the LOTR movies:

"The Fellowship of the Ring" -> "La Comunidad del Anillo" (The Commonwealth of the Ring).
"The Two Towers" -> "Las Dos Torres" (The Two Towers).
"Return of the King" -> "El Regreso del Rey" (Return of the King).

O.K. here's a horrible translation of a Yuu Watase anime into english

Ayashi no Seresu/Ayashi no Ceres- Ceres celestial legend

The original Japanese title is Ayashi no Ceres - Tenkū Otogizūshi, which the literal translation is "Bewitching Ceres - Heavenly Fairy Tale". The original title was changed for North American release.

Yayness, a chance to namedrop a movie from New Zealand. 4laugh

Well it is a movie directed by Peter Jackson and in New Zealand it was called "Brain Dead". In USA it was called "Dead Alive"
