STUDENT FORM

User Image
Name: Lindemere Olena Lewis

Alias: Lindy, LOL

Age: 16 (June 3)

Gender: Female

Powers: Hypnosis, telekinesis, and psychometry.
hypnosis
Confound a person's mind.
Have you ever been approached by someone and given all of these samples, their whole rehearsed sales pitch, told them you weren't interested, and then came away with $40 worth of junk anyway? You were just swindled, you may think. You may have been hypnotized! With hypnotism, a psychic may persuade, convince, or otherwise encourage a person of thoughts or decisions they would not normally agree with. Free will is easily bent, and at times broken, with this ability.

telekinesis
Manipulate physical objects.
Ever wanted to move things merely by thinking about it? With Telekinesis, you can become the closest thing to a Jedi and simply will things to get out of your way. Pick up objects with your thoughts, drop them onto buttons or enemies, throw things, break stuff. If you're a little more direct, you can pick up your enemies, too, and hurl them against walls for some nice damage.

psychometry
Sense the aura trails someone leaves on an object.
Ever find a lost item and wish you could return it directly to its owner? With psychometry, you can do exactly that! By concentrating on an object, a psychic with this ability may sense the aura of whoever most recently touched it. The aura clinging to the item is much weaker than that of the individual, which means only the color can be noticed. Gosh, this would probably be a lot more helpful if you could read auras, too, wouldn't it?

Aura: teal, yellow, low frequency
Blue spectrum contains indigo, navy, cobalt, teal, etc. Individuals with a blue aura have intuitive thoughts, think and feel in literal senses, they are balanced people and tend to be born survivors. Generally these people feel relaxed or calm. Teal is a strong subspectrum that resonates differently; they are pleasant and outgoing, good at influencing others in a positive manner.

Yellow spectrum contains lemon, cadmium, gold, ochre, etc. Individuals with a yellow aura are confident and strong, generally taking leadership positions. They have strong aspirations and hold themselves and others to high standards. These people are well motivated and work hard to achieve their goals. It is as easy for these people to be content as it is to become distressed.

Worry, stress, depression, and even amoral intentions may cloud a person's aura with noise. Noise results in a dulling of color and can make it difficult to gauge a person's true feelings, obscuring the subtle changes in size or shape a person may have and even how closely two spectrums of aura blend. The clearer a person's aura the easier it is to read and the more "pure" they are to themselves. Individuals with mental illness often have a high noise level in their aura but high levels of noise are not always indicative of mental illness. High frequency means more noise, low frequency means less noise.

Appearance:
physical
Standing at an even five feet, Lindemere is a robust girl with bright pink eyes and dark brown skin. Her curly hair fades naturally from a lively pinkish-purple to eye-searing cyan, and it is by far her best-loved feature, so much so that she rarely wears it pinned up. Lindy doesn't favor makeup beyond tinted lip gloss, disliking the feel of it on her skin, but she loves jewelry and accessories, regularly decorating her arms, legs, and hair with various bangles and baubles.

Even though she skews toward girlier clothing, Lindy is not the biggest fan of skirts or dresses, preferring shorts whenever it is warm enough to wear them or shorts and tights when it is not. She owns plenty of pairs of pants as well, but they are only worn as a last resort. Pants are notorious in Lindy's mind for covering up cute shoes, and that's not an option.

posture
Lindy isn't the straight-backed, book-on-her-head type of girl, but she's no slouch either. Generally, she stands just as any other average teenager might; slumped when she's bored, alert when she's interested or someone's picking a fight.

body language
Compact is probably the best way to put it. Lindy might be peppy and extroverted, but she is almost always carefully controlled as well, her drawn in limbs and dainty steps defining her appearance just as much as her jewelry and bright hair. On the rare occasion when she is forced to move in a more unrestrained fashion (running somewhere, catching herself before a fall, or just when she forgets to be small) Lindy grows embarrassed and apologetic, almost as if she is afraid she will hurt those in her vicinity by acting up. This behavior stems directly from her mother's influence throughout Lindy's formative years and the woman's insistence that things will always go wrong when one invites them to, especially through one's physical actions. That being said, Miriam is not a bad mother, just a human one with a paralyzing fear of losing her loved ones and rather silly and inconsistent ideas regarding what keeps a person safe.

Personality:
+ welcoming, determined, adventurous
- selfish, materialistic, sedentary

An outwardly warm and gregarious girl, Lindy honestly believes that she regularly strives toward making everyone as contented and happy as she is. In many ways, she does. She is as big-sisterly as they come, and both younger campers and students are fair game for her affection, coddling, and protection. But she can also be rather overbearing in her unspoken quest to maintain her own comfort, dragging those in her vicinity along for the ride until they take it upon themselves to leave. Harassing clerks for sandals in winter, sending food back to the kitchen because it's cold, and hanging around nearby staring at people she wants to speak to while they are on personal phone calls are things she regularly does, but she's not entirely malicious and will cease being passive aggressive for a time when asked to stop.

If you happen to like winter sandals, harassing wait staff, or otherwise benefit from her occasional forays into persistent selfishness, life can be pretty sweet as Lindy's friend. And you are her friend, right? Everyone is.

Any evidence that Lindy has inherited at least some of her parents' reckless spontaneity is initially difficult to come by. It is only after she has unleashed her poorly crafted stories on the masses while in your presence that it becomes more obvious that the adventurous spark is there, it has just been gated since birth by her mother's persistent fear of her family's mortality. Lindy has the desire to explore and break new ground, she is simply wary of doing so because she believes that being too curious will cause her pain.

Lindy is rather sheltered for the daughter of a pair of explorers, and though she has encountered bullies in the past, they haven't bothered with her in quite a while. The first and only time someone called her fat (Perry Alton, grade two), Lindy's hypnosis abilities were triggered, a power she has unconsciously used since to encourage people to see her as the fun, popular person she believes she is, or at the very least, to get them to leave her alone.

For someone her age she is also notably oblivious with regard to matters of the heart, and a lot of the time she won't even notice flirting or advances made toward her, let alone any accidental innuendo that comes out of her own mouth. She has little use for such things at the moment. Only time will tell if she ever finds one.

History:

family family family

lindy, 16
rooney, 11, half-brother
davis daniels, father, deceased
miriam (kingston daniels) lewis, mother
delia kingston, aunt, miriam's twin sister
eigel lewis, lindy's adoptive father, miriam's second husband, rooney's father
mia daniels, aunt
lindemere kingston, grandfather, deceased
olena kingston, grandmother, deceased
alfred daniels, grandfather, deceased
harriet daniels, grandmother
eigel's parents, do i give a crap, possibly not, poor eigel

Born to Davis and Miriam Daniels on a balmy afternoon in early June, Lindy was the baby her parents didn't know they wanted until she arrived. They were treasure hunters, and if having their first child wasn't reason enough to settle down and stop risking their lives to recover long buried relics and ancient artifacts, the sudden deaths of Miriam's explorer parents certainly made them reconsider their life choices. Lindemere and Olena Kingston disappeared on what came to be known in certain circles as the Kingston Expedition. As close to Davis as they were to their daughter, the couple unanimously agreed to name the newest addition to their family after the grandparents she would never know.

The first several years of Lindy's life were as meaninglessly eventful as any other child's—walking, talking, shiny, happy normalcy. But on yet another balmy June afternoon, three weeks after his daughter's second birthday, Davis got a call from one of his old contacts. The Eye of Menah had been found, or at the very least, the general vicinity where it was likely to be found had been discovered. Maybe. Okay, there were rumors that its location had been narrowed down to a spot somewhere in a wide swath of the Gobi Desert, and that was enough for him. Although he loved his family, Davis had been floundering since the Kingstons had vanished, taking odd jobs to keep busy even though Miriam's inheritance more than took care of their physical needs. He was terribly anxious to get back to his calling, even if it was only for the length of a single job. Twenty days after he received his big news, Davis was kissing his wife and child goodbye and boarding a plane for Ulan Bator. Two weeks after that, he followed in the footsteps of the in-laws he idolized and disappeared completely.

Furious and devastated, Miriam moved in with Delia, her twin sister, who helped to raise Lindy for the better part of the next year. Though psychic abilities ran in the Kingston and Daniels families, they were never honed to any particular sharpness by most of their members. Delia had pieced together enough knowledge over the years to experience the occasional clairvoyant flash and make Teddymuffins and Mr. Turtle dance without needing to touch them, but those small instances were Lindy's only experiences with psychic power until her mother met Eigel at a club meeting for travel enthusiasts.

A bookish nerd, Eigel Lewis was everything that Davis hadn't been, for good or ill. At first, when he began to show Miriam a bit of clumsy romantic interest, she was simply relieved that he was content with his desk job, but it wasn't long before she started to see him as more than a stable influence who she enjoyed having coffee with and looked good in a suit. They were married a little before Lindy's fourth birthday, and her brother Rooney joined the family fifteen months later. Perhaps the most striking difference between Davis and Eigel was that the latter fully embraced his mental powers, using them at work and in their home with equal impunity. He possessed a set of abilities noticeably lacking in obvious flash, but he played the most challenging games of Hide and Seek that a young girl who loved challenges could have hoped for.

Lindy was hardly ignorant of the concept of a Psychonaut after that, though what she knew of them was blown out of proportion and seemed almost magical. She continued on through elementary, junior high, and almost clear through high school before Rooney showed the first signs of his own burgeoning power. He was a great deal more eager to nurture it, and with his parents' help—mostly his father's—he applied to and was accepted at a psychic camp across the country. His absence left Lindy strangely jealous of her brother for the first time in her life. She began to research supposed ways of unlocking psychic powers with the rabid fervor of a flat tween girl slathering on boob cream, and after several determined months and an equal portion of her parents' help, Lindy succeeded in nudging a quarter a hair's breadth across the kitchen counter with her mind. Opting to stick closer to home than Rooney had, she found and latched onto Majesco as the only place she could see herself finishing off her high school career.

As she prepares to enter a new school and face the unknown, Lindy's life continues on largely as it has for years. She maintains a loving relationship with her stepfather, a close connection with her mother—who manages to be supportive while also making Lindy feel guilty about not being more cautious—and is on good terms with Rooney, who she texts every couple of days.

Stuff I found it clunky to include up there but is still important:
  • Eigel legally adopted Lindy when she was eight, changing her surname to Lewis.
  • Lindy regularly sees her aunt Delia. She is close with Harriet and Mia as well, but doesn't see them nearly as often.
  • She did not attend camp! (implied in all the words above, but yes)

I love your break down of her appearance into physical, body language, and posture. Great way to assign more meaning to each. I may use that approach myself if you don't mind.

Finally ready for crits and stuff!

Please be as harsh as you like! I often make characters that I think are wildly OP only to be told that they're weak to the point of brokenness, so I greatly appreciate any and all comments.

I will try to crit you as well if you leave a link, but I am really bad at it, seriously. ;; It might consist of a list of all the things I love about your character and be of no help at all.

SHE'S PRECIOUS. ;w;

How does she feel about her psychic abilities? Is she resentful that she doesn't have more? Is it pure jealousy of her brother that fuels her desire to explore them, or is she genuinely curious as well? Was there ever a situation that lead to her more or less hiding her emotions, or is that just what comes natural? Is there a reason behind staying compact and not making wild movements- did she accidentally injure someone in her childhood, maybe? I noticed you mentioned she used hypnosis so she wouldn't be bullied about being "fat" or "ugly" -- does she think these things about herself, or is she proud of her looks? Just a few things I was curious about! heart

If you could check mine out and maybe crit, that would be super super awesome too ~

Let's see if I can help any!
        Appearance:
        She's sooo cute.
For her hair does she always keep it down, or does she normally try to tame it into a braid or anything? You have that she likes cute shoes, I'm wondering what kinds of shoes are her favorite to wear, any she refuses to wear? As for shirts what kind does she like to wear best. Mostly blouses, tank tops, sleeveless, etc. Also does she wear dresses? Normally people who don't like skirts don't like dresses, but that is not always the case so I was wondering.

I'm curious to why she thinks she will hurt people with wild movements. Are her arms/hands to big for her body and shes scared to hurt someone? That part kind of confused me. Not sure exactly how to fix it really (I know I'm sooo helpful) but maybe since I pointed it out to you you can find another way to say it? Or ignore me because I'm crazy sometimes XD

I also think you should add something about body image here. You have in her history about her unconscious 'fake it till you make it' thingy, but I'm curious to see how she feels about herself and how this effects her personality.

        Personality:
How does she react to people who don't want to be her friend? To people that call her selfish or bossy? What about people who tell her that she isn't good at telling stories, or don't listen to hers? What happens when she doesn't get her way? Pretty much how does she deal with people confronting her.

I'd like to see a little more about her being selfish/bossy when it comes to her own comfort. Maybe an example? I get what you are trying to say, it just isn't super clear.

I'm curious if she is emotionless with matters of the heart by choice (because she doesn't want to notice or feel anything like that) or if she is just oblivious to it all.

What are some of her hobbies, what does she do for fun on her free time? Is she a competitive person? Is she a sore loser?

        History:
You wrote that Davis took odd jobs, did Miriam ever or did she stay home with Lindy? How did Miriam feel about her husband leaving. She was furious and devastated when he left, but how did she feel about him leaving? Did the couple argue about it, or did she just let him go? Was she jealous that she couldn't go along, or was staying with Lindy more than enough adventure for her?

Again I'm wondering if when Davis died did Miriam get a job? Did Delia have a job, or were the two sisters always home taking care of Lindy?

What exactly does Eigel do? What is Eigel's ablity? Did Eigel go to Majesco or camp? Was he trained in his abilities or just kind of trained himself? I'm just curious because you have Lindy knowing what a Psychonaut was after Eigel coming into their life so I'm curious to know if he knows about this from research or first hand.

Why was Lindy jealous of Rooney when he left? Because he left far away, or the fact that he had more control of his powers, or is it because their parents were helping him learn? Or was it easier for Rooney to learn than her?

When she decided to go to Majesco how did her parents feel? Are they excited for her to go and learn more, or are they sad that she is leaving? You have the her mother makes Lindy feel guilty about not being more cautious, what isn't she being cautious about? I didn't really see her being reckless or anything anywhere in her history.

Does Lindy's mother talk about her birth father? How does Lindy feel about him? Is she sad that he died, or feel mad that he left them and put himself in danger? Does her mother and her not talk about him at all, or maybe Lindy simply doesn't want to know since she considers Eigel her father?

Her aversion to cats and dogs might go in her personality, you could even add how she feels about other animals, but I'm not really sure. It might be perfect where it is. Just something I wasn't sure about so I'm pointing it out.

Okay that's all I got for now! I love her so much, and the art you have in her second post is adorable. If you could crit me here I'd be thankful!

SHE'S PRECIOUS. ;w;

NO U

Konaruuu
How does she feel about her psychic abilities? Is she resentful that she doesn't have more? Is it pure jealousy of her brother that fuels her desire to explore them, or is she genuinely curious as well?

Lindy is curious and excited about her abilities at present, but had Rooney not been permitted to go off to camp, she likely would have continued on through high school and become a nurse or a fashion designer or a congresswoman or something. XD The reason why she didn't pursue such things until he did is because she never really thought being a psychic was a possibility for her. She knew Eigel was one, she knew her aunt was too, but her mother had... benevolently brainwashed (? XD) Lindy into believing that it wasn't the path for her, and because she was happy, she didn't rebel or question.

I thought of it kind of like when a couple's firstborn kid isn't allowed to stay out late or pierce their ears, but then the second child comes along and gets all that and more. Admittedly, sometimes the firstborn does rebel early in that situation, but I've been friends with plenty of firstborn kids over the years who just accept their lot in life until they wake up one day and go 'wait, why am I not trying this' once they're awakened to the possibility, and that's what I was modeling her behavior on.

She's not at all resentful of people who have more or 'better' abilities than she does, she just wants to learn all she can about what she does have!

Konaruuu
Was there ever a situation that lead to her more or less hiding her emotions, or is that just what comes natural? Is there a reason behind staying compact and not making wild movements- did she accidentally injure someone in her childhood, maybe?

She doesn't really hide her emotions at all? Unless you meant the part at the end about her love life, and that's just because she's asexual and hasn't yet figured it out and put it into words. She's actually quite open with her emotions, so I should definitely take the word 'emotionless' out entirely because it's misleading yay! XDDD

As far as Lindy's attempts to be physically compact are concerned, that tendency stems from her mother as well. (miriam's a good mom i swear, she's just a little paranoid and overprotective... okay, maybe a lot XD) When her father died, Lindy's mother cut out anything that said 'adventure' to her, including psychics and the incredibly broad state of 'looking for trouble.' To Miriam, flailing around and being demonstrative are the quickest way to
DEATH, and between her first husband and her parents, she's had enough of death. Even though Eigel loves Lindy like his own daughter, he's 1) passive and 2) too concerned with Miriam's happiness to really step in and be like, "honey, don't you think you should loosen that iron grip, it's okay for the girl to flail her arms." Also, like I said, Lindy is very happy and she doesn't seem to need to jump around in order to be so.

Konaruuu
I noticed you mentioned she used hypnosis so she wouldn't be bullied about being "fat" or "ugly" -- does she think these things about herself, or is she proud of her looks?

She has always loved to dress up and flounce around, and she has always projected positivity about her physical presence because she has always felt positively about it. She didn't ever consciously use hypnosis to make people agree with her, it just kind of happened, and that part is mostly in there because I am intensely curious to see how she would react to someone who is immune to it bullying her. So no, she doesn't think those things about herself. XD The closest she's ever come to wishing she was more physically fit is when she's also wishing she could go on a proper adventure that isn't just in her head, and she doesn't think about that for long because she knows it upsets her mother.

So, yes. Most of these things can be answered by saying Lindy is an intense, unapologetic Mama's Girl, but I definitely have to get that out of my head and clarify how it affects her personality and choices. XDDD

I'm not going to quote directly this time because I feel like I'm making excuses for why I did things a certain way when I'm really just hashing things out so I can change them so if you see this I appreciate your fase and I'm just brainstorming out loud i love you

Quote:
I also think you should add something about body image here. You have in her history about her unconscious 'fake it till you make it' thingy, but I'm curious to see how she feels about herself and how this effects her personality.

The reason why fake it til you make it worked in this instance for so long is because her hypnosis started affecting people before she got to the point in life when she would have started feeling badly about her physical appearance. Her mother and aunt look just like her as far as shape is concerned, so she was always RAH RAH RAH DON'T I LOOK FINE YES I DO as a younger girl and remains incredibly naive about how cruel teenagers can actually be because she's unconsciously shielded herself from them. This is one of the big things I wanted to explore with her—how she would react if someone made fun of her appearance—and if no one is willing to do it with me, I'll do it through solos. XD So, even though this is a rather large hole in her personality, I want to leave it if I can because it is one of her blind spots, and trying to figure out what she would do or say when she hasn't done it or said it yet defeats the purpose of exploration.

Quote:
Personality:
How does she react to people who don't want to be her friend? To people that call her selfish or bossy? What about people who tell her that she isn't good at telling stories, or don't listen to hers? I'd like to see a little more about her being selfish/bossy when it comes to her own comfort. Maybe an example? I get what you are trying to say, it just isn't super clear.

Originally, this stuff was classified under the 'she's been using hypnosis to cushion herself for years' blanket, but I think I will explore some of what she says/does when people defy her. muahahaha

I didn't fit an example in there because it cuts into the sentence flow, but I can throw something into a spoiler and I will do that soon yay

Quote:
I'm curious if she is emotionless with matters of the heart by choice (because she doesn't want to notice or feel anything like that) or if she is just oblivious to it all.

Largely oblivious until it's too late. Asexual and aromantic. woot

Quote:
What are some of her hobbies, what does she do for fun on her free time? Is she a competitive person? Is she a sore loser?

Shopping, mobile games. She's abysmal at console and arcade games and avoids them like the plague. She is quite competitive, but she has rarely been given an arena to compete until now.

Quote:
You wrote that Davis took odd jobs, did Miriam ever or did she stay home with Lindy? How did Miriam feel about her husband leaving. She was furious and devastated when he left, but how did she feel about him leaving? Did the couple argue about it, or did she just let him go? Was she jealous that she couldn't go along, or was staying with Lindy more than enough adventure for her?

Miriam stayed home. They had plenty of money after Lindemere and Olena died. Davis only took random jobs to get out of the house. He wasn't dissatisfied or unhappy with family life, he just still had a wanderer's heart and was trying to keep himself from doing what he ultimately did.

Miriam was terribly jealous of his planned excursion. Neither of them wanted to leave their adventurous lives, they did so because they saw the dangers and were responsible for another life now. They did yell a little, but mostly she just tried to guilt him into staying. They were actually on good terms when he left, Miriam was only furious and devastated when Davis died, as one would be.

Quote:
Again I'm wondering if when Davis died did Miriam get a job? Did Delia have a job, or were the two sisters always home taking care of Lindy?

Nope, both the sisters lived off of their parents' money. Delia is a bit of a free spirit. She likes to spend her days talking to tourists or sitting in the library or hitchhiking. She's never had a proper job >>

Quote:
What exactly does Eigel do? What is Eigel's ablity? Did Eigel go to Majesco or camp? Was he trained in his abilities or just kind of trained himself? I'm just curious because you have Lindy knowing what a Psychonaut was after Eigel coming into their life so I'm curious to know if he knows about this from research or first hand.

Eigel has a desk job in an unnamed Psychonaut facility and attended an unnamed camp and unnamed psychic school. XD I didn't want to overstep by worldbuilding too much, but yes, he's very well trained and he would have made a very good Psychonaut if he wasn't himself, namely if he wasn't a twiggy nerd who was more comfortable behind a desk than in the field. As it stands, he makes a very good office operative and handles very secret, very important papers. He has clairvoyance, aura reading, clairaudience, intuition, psychometry, and scrying.

Quote:
Why was Lindy jealous of Rooney when he left? Because he left far away, or the fact that he had more control of his powers, or is it because their parents were helping him learn? Or was it easier for Rooney to learn than her?

Rooney is more instinctively powerful than she is without training, he has more apparent abilities, and Lindy always idolized Psychonauts as much as she feared them. She's jealous that her little brother is cooler than she is. XD

Quote:
When she decided to go to Majesco how did her parents feel? Are they excited for her to go and learn more, or are they sad that she is leaving? You have the her mother makes Lindy feel guilty about not being more cautious, what isn't she being cautious about? I didn't really see her being reckless or anything anywhere in her history.

Eigel's happy, Miriam is worried, but there's not a lot she can do about it at that point. She's a psychic even though she doesn't practice, she married two of them, and she let her psychic son go off to camp. She's afraid that if she keeps clinging, Lindy will come to resent her and see her as a hypocrite. It's been kind of difficult to explain how Miriam's hangups have affected Lindy without outlining Miriam's personality too, but I think that's a bit of a waste of time, so here's the short version. Hopefully it will do.

Miriam was living the life. She had popular, wealthy parents, a great twin, a bomb-a** husband. Then 3/4 of them died within two years of one another and something in her snapped. Not a big snap, just enough of one for her to slowly begin to constrict around the one reminder of a time when things were the best they had ever been. She couldn't count on her twin to back her up—Delia was a grown woman and enjoyed getting into trouble and using her limited powers occasionally, which Miriam saw as another kind of trouble. By the time she met Eigel, she was set in her overprotective ways regarding Lindy. She was also obviously ready to move on which is why Rooney missed the majority of the coddling.

Quote:
Does Lindy's mother talk about her birth father? How does Lindy feel about him? Is she sad that he died, or feel mad that he left them and put himself in danger? Does her mother and her not talk about him at all, or maybe Lindy simply doesn't want to know since she considers Eigel her father?

Lindy definitely considers Eigel her father even though she knows he isn't biologically. Davis is a legendary figure that she doesn't see as wholly real. She used to ask about him and Miriam would share stories, but she doesn't think about him much anymore and therefore doesn't ask.

Quote:
Her aversion to cats and dogs might go in her personality, you could even add how she feels about other animals, but I'm not really sure. It might be perfect where it is. Just something I wasn't sure about so I'm pointing it out.

Yeah, I'm removing the cat and dog thing. I kind of just shoved it in there without thinking it through and it doesn't really fit. I imagine she wouldn't really like any domesticated animals, but I'll probably rethink this.
