Nathaniel Grant "In Blackest day. In Brightest night! Beware your fears made into light. Let those who try to stop what's right -- burn like his power -- Sinestro's might!"
Allegiance: Sinestro Corps Status: Healthy Thoughts: ...........Even through all the suffering he has caused to the boy, to the country he used to love, to the world even, this boy still wanted him to live. Even though he was in possession of a dangerous weapon, was a member of an organization who's main purpose is intergalactic tyranny, Ian still thought there was some good in Nathaniel. That his life was worth living. That he was worth being saved. As he watched Ian flail around in an attempt to summon something to seal up his wound, and failing miserably, Nathaniel merely shook his head.
"Don't even bother, Ian," Nathaniel answered before coughing hard, a little blood escaping his mouth afterwards, "I'm already dying. Massive internal trauma.....plus an amputation, means I don't have much longer to live."
He was right. The explosion from the Atlantean bomb had already screwed him up because it was done while he was in civilian attire. And now this. There was no way he was going to live this day, "It doesn't matter anyway. This is a battlefield. This is war. In war.....someone has to lose. I prefer to face my end....with some kind of dignity," Nathaniel then stopped talking for a moment, and Ian could see a single tear drop below his eye, "I have done....terrible things Ian. The blood of thousands of people, alien and human, are on my hands. I have assisted in the conquering of numerous planets, I have slain many other Green Lanterns, a couple of them veterans. All for a chance to prove that the human race deserves our rightful place at the center of the universe. Was it all worth it?"
He was mostly musing to himself, but he was also confessing the face that he had done many terrible things, hoping that Ian would get angry enough to give him the death he deserves.

Allies: Martian Manhunter, Arturia Enemies: Nathaniel Grant, Black Beetle, Disguised Ares and Demon Saving: Nathaniel? Ian had killed Nathaniel grant, without the use of his power ring, Ian could neither save from nor condemn Nathaniel to his grave. Even Nathaniel had given up on it all, he was just prepared to roll over and die; he said he knew he was dying but Ian still refused. He still couldn't believe it. He could save Nathaniel Grant as he'd always intended to, just like with the Red Lantern there was Hope, Hope that Ian could take the corrupting influence of the Yellow Light away from Nathaniel and save him from himself. Because that's what people like Sinestro and Atrocitus did; they corrupted you until you couldn't even recognize yourself in the mirror. Until the Freedom Fighter becomes the Terrorist, until the Grieving or the Angry became the Slaughterer and the Rampaging Beast. Rage, fear, Will had acted as the three motivators for three different people to tread three very different paths. Ian couldn't help but imagine whether or not Nathaniel would do the same for him if their positions had been reversed. He was a soldier. He'd seen Death. The closest Ian had ever gotten to it was a Respawn Timer or a Try Again.
Where was the controller when he needed it? Where were the options? Why wasn't this all just one big game and Nathaniel about to respawn any minute now?
There was just so much blood. "It's what Fear does though..." Ian finally said, exhausted and accepting that Nathaniel was a lost cause but still somewhat traumatised by it; "It corrupts. It pushes us to do terrible things. You would have made one hell of a Green Lantern Nathaniel Grant. But there's nothing I can do for you. There's nothing I can do for anyone now..." Ian pulled his knees tight into his chest and wrapped his arms around them as he rocked gently next to Nathaniel. "The Mental Instability Protocol of my Ring has already kicked in. Until I get over the Trauma... I won't be able to do anything... So, I'll stay here with you... It's... It's... All I can do... I'm sorry." O.O.C ~

DEATH POST ~Akato~Sakikin~ I am power, I am Darkness... To see me is to die, to survive is the distant light of hope.... I will have what I want and Hellfire shall follow Status: Healthy Mood: Eager Thoughts: I have you now OOC: After the blast, Akato would not be found. The explosion had enveloped him entirely, almost incinerating his body. This extent of injury caused the Demon to become partly ethereal, a side effect of his Demonic heritage.
Near the edge of the battlefield, a shadowed figure held up a shining crystal. A muttered spell and Akato's demonic presence vanished completely. The only trace left of the combatant was the oni mask he had worn into the battle.
The Demon, Akato Sakikin, would no longer bother the realm of man or Queen Arturia.
{crappy death post, don't have the energy or imagination right now to expound upon Akato's demise} Location: Quotes:

Nathaniel Grant "In Blackest day. In Brightest night! Beware your fears made into light. Let those who try to stop what's right -- burn like his power -- Sinestro's might!"
Allegiance: Sinestro Corps Status: Almost Dead Thoughts: Oh, the irony"Yeah, I guess you're right," he answered. It was what Fear did. When he first accepted the ring back in Metropolis, he did so out a sense of not wanting to be helpless anymore. Instead, it turned the former US soldier into a world conquering fear monger. And now that the veil had been lifted from his eyes, he realized just how much he had done. And yet his enemy is willing to forgive him? And even try to save him? It reminded him of himself, back in Afghanistan.
"Don't be sorry, Ian," Nathaniel said, "You did what you had to do. It's what a Green Lantern is supposed to do, right? Protect the innocent, defeat evil. All that stuff. You're in the same position I was back in Afghanistan. The reason why I chose to put on this accursed ring was because of what happened there."
After a few seconds of coughing, and more blood coming out of his mouth, he spat some to the side of him and began to speak again, "I was the Captain of my company in the deserts of Afghanistan. I was leading my troops on a routine patrol. We had done this many times, to the point that we all knew the patrol route by heart. But that day, things went terribly wrong. We were ambushed by Taliban forces and pinned down. I could do nothing to salvage the situation as I watched my fellow soldiers die left and right. I panicked. I dd what I could to save as many of my troops as I could. When what was left of us managed to get back behind friendly lines, I had lost nearly 60% of my company. I had to be honorably discharged because I had developed Post Traumatic Stress Disorder from the ordeal. Even to this day, I could barely sleep without hearing the sound of AK-47's ringing in my ears."
"I accepted this ring because I didn't want to feel helpless anymore. I didn't want anyone I know to die without me doing my damnedest to save them. But once I put on the ring, it consumed me. And I became the monster you fought and won against today. I guess you can say some of the worst things imaginable happened to those with the best intentions. I intended to save anyone who needed my help. Instead of being the one to take a bullet for a comrade, I became the guy holding the gun."

ABDI'KARIM GHEDI Martian Manhunter "I'm not my predecessor..."
Ian ignored Abdi, causing the Martian to almost panic, in sheer fright that the flames wouldn't cease. After a wait that seemed to stretch far longer than its actual length, Abdi felt a powerful gust of wind, that beat back the flames. The Martian moved, wobbling to a base, then to a squat, then slowly standing, hunched over, his hands gripping his thighs in a vice-like grasp, emptying the contents of his stomach for what seemed to be an eternity. When Abdi finally finished retching, he stretched out his back, shifting to a quadrupedal, almost centaur-like form. Two legs definitely was not enough to support him, as weak as he was now. Abdi began to slowly walk over to Ian, putting his hand on the boy's shoulder. "You do what you need to here. Don't worry about anything else, please make your peace." With that, he left the young Lantern, his hand reverting to the axe shape it had been before. Systematically, he went over to the soldiers, examining them for signs of life. The ones who were dead, he hoisted onto his broad back, eventually making a pile. The ones who were still barely alive, he gave mercy killings, quickly slicing throats and adding to the piles. It was brutal, ugly, disgusting work, and Abdi hated every moment of it. These people deserved more than this. They were proud Atlanteans, who had been swayed to evil, but proud Atlanteans nonetheless. They deserved funerals fit for warriors, not this pathetic excuse of a pile that Abdi had built. As the lone Martian walked, delivering his brutal but quick and mostly painless killings, he chanced upon a mask. He dimly recalled seeing Arturia fighting a warrior who held this mask. It was certainly not a good idea to just leave it, so Abdi picked up the curious Oni Mask, and pocketed it, if nothing more than an heirloom. When he was done stacking bodies, Abdi, Son of Mars, looked to Ian, waiting for his response. There was no healer here, no way to repair Nathaniel. Even if there was, he was a brutal killer, their opponent. Though Abdi could understand Ian's frustration, and probably his shock at what had occurred, Nathaniel would be given no mercy, if not by Ian then by a hero who actually would act for the greater good.

Allies: Martian Manhunter, Arturia Enemies: No one, Not really Anymore Saving: Nathaniel? Ian couldn't fight the tears back as Nathaniel spoke, the former soldier's words reverberating within the Green Lantern's very soul with each and every syllable. Small trails of sadness just ran over, his mask, down his cheek and eventually to the floor where Nathaniel lay. Eventually disappearing as the pool of blood from his arm grew larger and larger...
Nathaniel wasn't wrong in the fact that the two of them, in this moment, were probably the same. Way back when in the Slums, Ian could think of nothing more but how unlike they were. How Nathaniel seemed so focused, determined and sure in comparison to his reluctance. How what he did and said was just everything that Ian stood for. But now, dragged down to his level as one might say, Ian saw that the two of them were a lot more similar than it first appeared. Ian had received his ring trying to save someone. Nathaniel had taken his ring wanting to save someone. But in the end, when all was said and done it was all about the colour and Ian was the one to luck out. Ian got power but with Green and Willpower being at the centre of the spectrum, he didn't really have to make any real compromises. He didn't have to give up himself or his values. But Nathaniel had to, Yellow was just off-centre. Towards the negative end of the Spectrum.
It was in these thoughts; thoughts about how lucky he was and how honoured he was that he finally felt the touch of another. It felt foreign, in a way, not because of the fact the person touching him was from Mars but for another reason: That Ian didn't feel comfortable in his own skin. He almost jumped at the Martain's touch and turning around wide eyed to behold the quadruped, Ian looked no less than a mad man.
"Make my peace with what!?" Ian yelled after the Martian as he set about "cleaning up" the beach "Make peace with the fact this is all my fault!? That this wasn't what I wanted!? Answer me! What is there to make peace with here!? I'M A GREEN LANTERN GODDAMMIT! AND I CAN'T SAVE HIM!" Ian now stood over Nathaniel, between him and the Martian, a shield against a so-called "mercy" "And that's what we do?" He said poiting towards the growing mound of corpses "This is a hero's work!?" O.O.C ~

Nathaniel Grant "In Blackest day. In Brightest night! Beware your fears made into light. Let those who try to stop what's right -- burn like his power -- Sinestro's might!"
Allegiance: Sinestro Corps Status: Dead Thoughts: A pox on your corps, Sinestro"No," Nathaniel answered Ian when he asked the question of whether this was a hero's work, "This was a madman's work.....and by madman....I mean me. I sent these soldiers to their deaths. All of them....had families to return to....now they will never see them again," Nathaniel was truly showing regret for his actions. It seemed the ring was the main factor in turning him into the sociopath Ian was fighting earlier. Now that he was dying, Ian was seeing the fallen hero that could of been an excellent Green Lantern if fate didn't deal him a cruel hand.
"Ian," Nathaniel said, directing his attention towards the former U.S. Army soldier, "You have the capacity to be a much greater Green Lantern than I could of ever been. But you won't be able to realize this.....if you keep moping around....and feeling sorry for yourself. You did...... what you thought was necessary....to ensure the continued survival of our race," Nathaniel then coughed, another globlet of blood he was forced to spit out, "I.....implore you, Green Lantern of Sector 2814, become the hero I could never be....become the Green Lantern I could never be," Nathaniel then struggled to bring his hand up to his mouth as he bit on the yellow ring and tugged it slowly off his finger, dispelling the armor and the only thing allowing him to continue living for so long. He then grasped it weakly in his remaining hand and held it out for Ian, "Destroy....this....ring...," he weakly stammer before his life finally gave out.
The man who thought of himself as a Warrior of Sinestro, in a final act of defiance, would rather have his ring destroyed than used by another person. Some would consider it a futile effort, considering Sinestro could have the Weaponers of Qward forge another, but to Nathaniel, it was him basically spitting in his face. Sinestro could take his body, and his mind, but the one thing Nathaniel kept even to his death, was his pride.

ABDI'KARIM GHEDI Martian Manhunter "I'm not my predecessor..."
Abdi ignored the boy's tantrum, simply continuing with his work silently. There were still bodies, and the city wasn't entirely safe yet. Even if some heroes weren't emotionally stable enough to carry on with their work, Abdi would be. He would always be, even if he had to get through that accursed fire to do so. Of course, this would be much easier if Ian were to help, so Abdi went to the grieving boy, shifting back to his normal form and squatting by him. He put one hand on his shoulder, looking him dead in the eyes, his gaze unwavering. "As brutal as it sounds, yes. Make your peace. You did this, and that the lives of soldiers who knew they would face death and went anyways is on your hands. You fought off a numerically superior force, using what could be the most powerful tool on this planet. You singlehandedly defeated the mastermind of this whole debacle. You saved Coast City. Every single man, woman, and child for the next few square miles directly owes their continued existence to you. The fact that you spurn that and dare to feel guilty over that is disgusting. Nathaniel could have turned out better, I'm sure. You could have done better. You could have maybe avoided this, perhaps. But we won't know that for sure. You did the best you could do, and you don't deserve that ring if you're not man enough to face up to the consequences. You're supposed to be the beacon of light, god damn it!" At this point, Abdi wasn't yelling, but there was an intensity to his words that couldn't be mistaken for anything else. This was serious. "I'm not a hero. I'm a trained, hardened killer who happens to love this planet more than anything else. And I'll kill anyone who gets in the way of the citizens of this, or any city here." Abdi stood up, turning to finish his work. "Now, I'm going to go clean up your mess. You can either get up and help, after burying your enemy, of course, or you can stay there, wallowing in your own self hate. Makes little difference to me, human." With that, the Martian walked away, no longer caring about Ian or whatever he would do. Regardless of anyone else, Abdi would do his duty.

gaia_angelleft ~ Queen Arturia ~ gaia_angelright Evie Sinclair Fierce as a lion....For a while, Arturia avoided the crater, where she knew that the two Lanterns were. However, she wandered over soon enough. Nathaniel Grant was dead, and the Green Lantern was very upset over not being able to save him. As usual, it seemed that Abdi was being cold and seemingly heartless. She really didn't like him. Her world was one of emotion, of ideals and values. There was black, and there was white, but there were also so many shades of gray in between. To her, it seemed that Abdi didn't see that. For him, there was a strict, rigid divide between black and white, and that was all there was. There were no grays to fill out and give detail to the picture, and that was a very sad thing in the young knight's mind. Almost silently, she slipped down into the crater and made her way to the Green Lantern's side, sending an icy glare Abdi's way. His words probably weren't helping too much. Well, they wouldn't help her if she was in the Lantern's place, anyway. For a moment, she just stood there, not saying a word as she looked down at the former US soldier. She had managed to catch his last little speech, and now she could see him clearly. He was just another good man fighting on the wrong side of a war that shouldn't have happened. Finally, she turned to look at the Green Lantern and spoke, her quiet, accented voice breaking the silence. "What I say probably will not help you much, but know that you are not alone in your grief. Nathaniel was a good man who simply had the misfortune of finding the wrong ring. Others may not see that, but at the very least, we do, and we will grieve for the loss of such a good man, and for all who were lost on this day." she softly murmured. "But now is not the time for that. Right now, we need to look for survivors and help them as best as we can. We may grieve later."Truth be told, she was fighting back a complete meltdown of her own. She had vowed to herself that she would do everything in her power to prevent the loss of life on both sides, yet here she was, covered in sand and blood, both her own and that of the Atlantean soldiers that she had tried to help. At least a dozen of them had died right before her eyes, even as she tried to bandage their wounds, begging them to hold on. There was nothing she could have done, but she still felt responsible. She still felt that if she had done something, anything differently, then maybe they would still be alive. But she would grieve later, behind closed doors. ....and free as the wind. Out of Cake:

Allies: Martian Manhunter, Arturia Enemies: No One. Saving: No One. Ian looked down towards Nathaniel, shaking with anger at Abdi. Abdi had made him angry before at Taliana's house too. Always going on about the ring, high lighting that Ian was replaceable and unfortunately, not being wrong. As his head turned towards the dying soldier, Ian watched as he wished for his ring to be destroyed. And a lump caught in his throat. For Ian couldn't even accomplish the man's dying wish. With his own ring's creative and offensive powersets cut off from him until he could pull himself together; there was nothing Ian could do but take the ring in his own hands and look at it, for some reason it hadn't left Earth yet. It hadn't done the thing that most rings did, it had stayed, almost like it was in mourning for losing it's owner when all others would have turned tale and fled. Set out to find another "replacement sentient".
Looking down to say something to Nathaniel in reply, Ian's face dropped as he realised that Nathaniel Grant of Earth, Sinestro Corpsman of Sector 2814 was dead. And the blood in Ian's veins began to boil with nothing but unbridled rage. Even though Abdi was still speaking, Ian could hardly hear him. He caught a slight murmur here and murmur there of what the Martian was saying but all Ian could hear in his own ears was his own voice, taunting and screaming with anger. The Martian was right on more than two counts. The first was that Abdi was being harsh and maybe that was because he wasn't human; he was a Martian, he didn't really understand, not really, he was too busy meditating on the sand whilst Ian fought of an inter-planetary threat by himself. Yes, Abdi was cleaning up Ian's mess but it would have been both of their's had the Martian actually done anything of any real use...
The thought was almost toxic; corrupting Ian, the scarab still close by and his rage allowing it's influence to once again try and do something stupid. He couldn't let it lie. Who are you to judge me Martian!? WHERE WERE YOU WHILE I WAS... HOW DARE YOU JUDGE ME! I AM A GREEN LANTERN AND IF I WANTED TO BE I COULD BE A-! He stopped himself, the yellow ring hovering over his own finger now but not by itself like it would have appeared to Nathaniel but instead clutched in between his thumb and forefinger. Almost begging to be slipped on... NO!
With that, Ian threw the Yellow Ring to the floor, pointed his own ring at it and watched the sparks fly. The ensuing blast almost tore his arm off as he launched a large green ball of will energy towards the yellow ring, the ball collided with it, dragged it half way across the beach leaving a trail in the sand and then eventually cracked the Qardian ring down the middle. Then soon, the ring was gone. Disintegrated under the weight of Ian's blast.
Ian looked towards Arturia and shook his head. "There is always time for that. Forget the consequences, forget what side you're on and with as much power as I have... I can fall like Nathaniel did. Any of us can. I'm not unable to face up to the consequences, I'm terrified of them, as I should be. Heroes don't kill people. And that's why you're not a hero Abdi... Or worthy of the Martian Manhunter's title..."
Brow furrowed, Ian stepped towards the Green Martian Qudraped, his fists clenched. "I advise you both to stay away from me... Before I hurt you too." O.O.C ~

ABDI'KARIM GHEDI Martian Manhunter "I'm not my predecessor..."
"Guess I'm not a hero then. Boo hoo." Abdi simply rolled his shoulders back, stretching out. "No dirt off my shoulder, pitiful human." The Martian turned back to the pile of dead bodies, walking to the enormous hill of corpses. He turned intangible, sinking down below the pile, before beginning to dig, turning tangible again as he moved massive quantities of sand away from it's prior position, essentially making a large hole, that could fit the majority of the bodies. It took a few minutes, but the mindless labor helped clear his mind. Not worthy of the Martian Manhunter's Legacy? That b*****d of a Lantern hadn't endured a millionth of the sheer pain and torture Abdi had gone through. He had no right to speak such nonsense, especially when he was as sheltered as he was. Being a hero doesn't mean winning every battle and saving the city with no blood on your hands. If one could accomplish that, then all the better, but it was simply not possible. The Atlanteans had willingly attacked a major city, in an effort to kill civilians and lay waste to billions of dollars worth of real estate and businesses. That simply wouldn't fly with Abdi. There was a threat, he neutralized the threat, simple as that. When Abdi finished creating the sinkhole, he turned intangible and rose up, observing his handiwork. The bodies were all sunk about three feet at the highest, and probably twenty feet or so at the lowest, and the somewhat circular hole had a radius of about fifty feet. Abdi rose above the pile, setting the makeshift pyre ablaze with his heat vision. He pointedly ignored the disgusting stench of burning bodies, instead focusing on piling more sand on top once the bodies were nothing but ashes, covering them. He quickly inscribed a short message into the area, melting the entire pit into hardened glass with his heat vision. "Best grave I can offer you warriors, unfortunately."

Allies: Martian Manhunter, Arturia Enemies: No One. Saving: No One. Ian growled as Abdi seemed to just roll with it, as if it was nothing, that he didn't care he wasn't a hero even though the Martian Manhunter was the greatest of them. Martian Manhunter spent morning, noon and night watching the Earth and it's people so he could SAVE lives not take them. In the Lantern's eyes, Abdi's was not just spitting on J'onn's Legacy but the entire Legacy of the Justice League. Sure, there were casualties but not like this. Never. Like. This.
"You keep telling yourself Abdi, and maybe just maybe you can be even more of an Alien than you already are."
And with that, Ian vanished, leaving behind only a neon green streak in his wake. His destination: Oa. He needed answers, he needed peace... He needed... Time. O.O.C ~ Vaan_Hatake I understand that. However, we did have the 48 hour clause for a reason. And you posted a grand total of 10 times out of 85 posts. Almost half coming AFTER Nathaniel's death. It just seems a little unfair for Abdi to be all high and mighty, even if he is a Martian when his contribution to the effort was... well... zero. So, in Character, of cource Ian's going to get uppity. In Ian's eyes, Abdi did nothing and yet apparently still has the right to Lecture Ian... That's a little odd.

gaia_angelleft ~ Queen Arturia ~ gaia_angelright Evie Sinclair Fierce as a lion....Arturia could literally feel the tension in the air as the two males verbally, and probably mentally, lashed out at each other. Abdi’s icy cold disdain and the Green Lantern’s burning rage violently collided and clashed around them, so much so that she could almost see the aura of conflict surrounding them. Just like before, at the beginning of the battle, she was nearly overwhelmed by the urge to run and hide from the emotional superstorm that was brewing. She didn’t like it when people around her were angry; she felt uneasy and anxious, like she wasn’t safe. And she wasn’t, not with these two. As powerful as they were, if they were to start fighting, she would almost certainly be caught in the crossfire, and it was unlikely that she would survive that kind of onslaught. She was more than afraid. She was terrified. And anyone who was actually paying attention to her could easily tell. Her entire body was tense, and she was trembling ever so slightly, her green eyes wide with fright. She was about to flee, but fortunately, the Green Lantern had left, eliminating the possibility of a fight. The young knight stayed put for a few moments while she attempted to pull herself together, then hopped up out of the crater and went back to treating the Atlantean soldiers. Most of the ones left had only minor wounds, so it was just a matter of asking if they would be able to make it back to Atlantis okay, which they said they would. With that taken care of, Arturia said a quick, somewhat tense farewell to Abdi and staggered back to her current home, where she quickly flipped on the television, just to check the news before she went up to her room and cried. What she saw stunned her. Metropolis was embroiled in what looked like all-out war. Buildings were collapsing, people were dying, buses were exploding.... It looked like they needed all the help they could get. She could cry later. Arturia turned off the television and walked to the nearest door, focusing on the scene she had seen as she turned the knob and opened the door. Moments later, she was in Metropolis. ....and free as the wind. Out of Cake:
