CalledTheRaven Salmenella A bit here and there but not a whole lot other than rituals done 3 times a month and prayers twice a day. I've tried meditating but I kind of suck at it and other than that I really don't know HOW to open up lol I feel you. That's one of my biggest difficulties. It takes some work to figure it out. I don't know how people who have never done it before find it so easy lol

I feel like I have to add also that if I do go further with any Norse deities it is purely on a Roman standpoint. I'm a Roman recon, those Gods and spirits are my pantheon, however the Romans did take on other Gods from different pantheons. I'd just have to do my own research on how they went about incorporating them into the Religio Romana.

I'd just have to do my own research on how they went about incorporating them into the Religio Romana. Well, by Interpretatio Romana, Odinn would have corresponded to Mercury for some reason, but Thor was related to either Jupiter (for the thunder) or Hercules (for the strength). Other then that, I suggest you read Tacitus' Germania for some idea on how the Romans viewed the Germanic tribes and their culture. As for more sources on the Norse Gods in general, sacred texts has both of the Eddas up. There's more but my brain won't process names just yet. Honestly, Odinn and Thor are two of the most well known gods of the pantheon so it shouldn't be too hard to find info on them.

My faith in the gods has been restored a bit. Still trying to get back into the ritual of it all, but this past couple of weeks have really opened me. I've been unemployed for not even a month and a half. That itself really shook me up a bit. But I've been trying to ask for the gods for guidance and vowed a great offering to Minerva if she helped me out with a specific job I was looking for, in childcare. I got an interview. Great! I had my eyes on that place for years but never could get an interview. I got a 2nd interview! AMAZING! I continued to pray to all the gods, and also promising to Minerva what I would do. I didn't hear from the lady for a few days. I called and called but nothing. I began to doubt, not a whole lot though, still had faith. Then she hired me! I've never said anything like this before but I really felt Minerva was guiding me the entire process.
This job could be my potential career. It pays REALLY well, has great benefits and it's nowhere near being a dead end job. I feel so blessed.

That's great! Good luck to you in your new and exciting job!
As for the Norse stuff, I realized that we've discussed the Interpretatio Romana thing before and that it's not how you want to approach it. However, it can still be useful because it highlights how the Romans saw those Gods; which traits they thought were most important or strongly represented. Just a thought.

I know. I just don't view deities to be like that. They are their own beings to me so treating Odinn like Mercury would be disrespectful in my opinion.

I'm a hard polytheist myself and that's not what I was trying to say at all. I wasn't suggesting treating them the same so much as trying to understand why the Romans made those particular correlations how that would have effected their approach to said Gods. More getting ideas on where to start with your approach, not suggesting that you just accept it whole. Different people relate to the same Gods in different ways and even among the Germanic peoples, different cultures emphasized different aspects of the same Gods. Since you have a strong cultural base for your path, I was just thinking it's good to understand what parts of these Gods that culture embraced and emphasized. It could help understand how they were related to. I also find it interesting that they seem to have locked onto Odinn's role as a psychopomp (and possibly messenger of destiny), for example. See, that's a role that is largely downplayed by many modern Heathens and not generally focused on. When you think about escorts and guides to the afterlife you tend to get a lot more focus on the Valkyries. Yes, they were supposed to be the Old Man's messengers in that regard but you still think of them doing the actual choosing and escorting. However, there's examples in the lore of him personally choosing (and even arranging the deaths of) specific people and he would be the lord of the hall if one were to end up in Vallhol. He is also one of the Gods with the most stories of actually interacting with humans. Usually for a specific purpose involving legendary deeds and great destinies. When the Romans were interacting with the Heathens of old those roles seems to have been strongly enough emphasized for them to connect him to Mercury, rather then a god of poetry, or battle, or wisdom, or even their own King of the Gods, Jupiter.

Thanks! That information actually helped a bit. And I get now what you were meaning by it. I haven't been digging a whole lot lately to be honest. Between the new job and a death in the family (they're about to pull the plug today) it hasn't been on my mind much. I'll possibly start digging in again in the next few weeks though. You've helped me a lot, thank you!

I never met her. Even the 2 days we've been in the hospital I still didn't meet her (didn't think it was appropriate to meet her for the first time in her condition, I wouldn't like it if a stranger came in if I was in her shoes). She's my boyfriends aunt, she's still family just...not my side of the family lol. I know the Eddas are good to look at for that stuff and I plan on buying that next time I get a book. But I was wondering if you have any links or anything?

I think I'm in a bit of a funk right now, which is strange because I am still very new to this all. I'm feeling really drawn towards a Hellenistic path and I have found some good resources, including websites which were recommended here, this guild, the HOT for Pagans thread and such bu I guess I still feel really isolated and like I'm drifting in the middle of the ocean. I have the whole ocean to explore but I don't know which direction to go in first. I just recently moved back home for the summer and I'm hoping to meet up with a friend this week to get a bit of guidance and support. Just felt the need to share my funk.
