I would recommend getting a graphic artist to do your signature art and/or use the art that you get from your room artist. You can keep it simple with your character names dressed up with a nice font and some keen graphic design effects like shadowing, lines, borders, etc. or you can use the art, crop it, dress it up with some grunge filters, slap on a border and then a simple font with the name directly under. It really depends on the style of art, though, and the pictures. Some art styles don't suit being cropped and some don't turn out well with filters.
I'm not very good at thinking of items but if we are going to keep with the detective theme then the ones that come to mind for me are Case of Pietro, Mystery of the Stolen Sapphire and Modus Operandi. They are pricey but you can always do a little side fundraiser between now and the ball for your room smile
Booty Grab and that new Chaos game Gaia has are good for gold and even better as a team.
