Well, as I am aware that this forum carries a label of "The Arts" I thought I would create a small spot about the non illustrative, painting arts. I do indeed love classical artworks, I am a huge fan of surrealism myself, and with two years of artschool under my belt, I do have a respect for such arts- so no hate. sweatdrop So, what I would like to talk about is performance arts like opera, theatre, dance, and any other performing art- ( I am writing this at a moment of exaust as I have been at a debate tournament all day so please do excuse the lack of a list.) Perhaps an art that I am unaware of even. I would love to have chat about the latest play, opera, ballet, or something that you saw recently. Feel free to converse and chat. I suppose to start things off, the last musical I saw was " A funny thing Happened on the way to the forum", and the last opera was a minimalist-set version of "Don Giovanni" by Mozart. I am about to see "A Flea in Her Ear" next week. What have you guys seen recently?

This is indeed for all arts, but visual and written are the most common here.
I think the last ballet I saw was swan lake, which although it was done by the royal ballet academy of NZ, I didnt really enjoy it (they had modified some scenes which kinda lost its flow to me.)
My fave was "Dracula the ballet" It was ballet with blood, explosives, epic epic music, lots of special effects, its played out like a movie really.
Havent been to many plays, though in HS I performed in a few and competed on our schools competitive theatre sports team, which was a lot of fun.

I haven't been to much plays... I haven't been to any real ones I should say. I've seen four high school ones. And the only sorta real play I saw was Pinocchio when I was 6 for a field, which I can't remember anything about because I was too young at the time. I remember it being cool though. I do hope to see a ballet in my future. And I would love to see Beauty and the Beast on stage.

Beauty and the Beast is an excellent musical to see; my cousin played Lumier in the touring cast for a year. I was fortunate enough to see it, and it's quite spectacular. I think that'd be a great theatre production to see and start off with. smile I saw a few shows as a kid I can't remember, and that gets a bit frustrating...

When I saw Don Giovanni they removed a few scenes and put it on a minimalist set- which really threw me off... And the fact that a lot of the members were at some point in their skivvy's or on the floor... Though, all of the performers had perfect tone color for their roles... Dracula the ballet sounds like something I want to see at some point in my life. Was it a one time show, or is this something that tours about, or could get reproduced? How does competitive theatre sports work? That sounds like something I wish I did in highschool...

To be honest, writers don't get much attention on this site. Even in the arenas, you'd be lucky to get ten votes on your work sad

Lady Asshat Dracula the ballet sounds like something I want to see at some point in my life. Was it a one time show, or is this something that tours about, or could get reproduced? How does competitive theatre sports work? That sounds like something I wish I did in highschool... Im not really sure, I can see dracula has been done as a ballet in many places, but Im not sure if its the same one. And the one I saw was ~12 years ago I think. Basically, you know whos line is it anyway? "Where everything is made up and the points dont matter" Well that is theatre sports with a single team. In competitive theatre sports its the same sort of games (though there are lots of different games), but it works the same, your given the game (or choose the game from a set of games), get your suggestions from the audience, and then make your skit. It is still all made up, but the points do determine which team wins. We always made the regional finals (performed at the old arts center of chch, though unfortunatly that was damaged during the quake , though luckily I think most of it will be repairable unlike other important historic buildings) Anyways, unfortunatly we never made nationals because only one team could make it through and our "Alternative public highschool, with self coached team" we just couldnt out perform the "Private boys boarding school, with professional drama coaches, who happened to live in the old arts district, and have the school within the old arts district)...although we could often beat them in the weekly interschools comps. Still it was a lot of fun doing improve in front of sometimes quite large audiences.

The only problem is is that they're aren't playing near me. The closest is New York... and I can't get there. =( ...maybe sometime in the future.
