With my birthday arriving very soon I decided one of my top gifts would be tarot cards. But considering I am a beginner no matter how much I absolutely love Deviant Moon Tarot's artwork I didn't think it would be best for a beginner. Do any of you have suggestions for beginner tarot cards I have heard of Rider Waite but artwork does play a part in choosing.

Go with Deviant Moon if that's the one that appeals to you. It's going to be easier to learn with a deck that appeals and that you're drawn to than one you have no affinity for.
Does Deviant Moon have a reputation for being a difficult deck to work with?

When I first got into reading tarot cards a few years back, I picked up a little box that came with a basic deck and a booklet describing the basics of how to read cards. The simplicity of the deck was far less important, I think, than the knowledge in the book itself when it came to learning.
I'd say if you like the artwork of the deck in question, go ahead and grab it- You can probably find a nice book, to help get you started with the learning process, at your local library, if not somewhere on the internet in a free pdf format.

I think when your first starting out artwork should very much be considered. I have found when I was first starting out that beginner decks, etc. didn't help me that much I didn't feel the cards speak to me and it was all about memorizing what the book says about its meaning which can be daunting with a big deck. But a deck who's artwork and energy I felt and connected with, I would feel the emotion on the animal or characters faces on the cards helping me feel the meaning and not just know it from the book and my readings got much more accurate and understandable, as well as when drawing a card I really liked I was more likely to remember the beautiful images and the meanings behind them. And if you have a deck you are visually attracted to I think your more likely to use it more often and practice more. Well that is how I am. I would really look around and see if you look at cards of any one deck and feel the cards not just see them. (if that makes sense) What decks work for each person can be very different so just look around and see what you find ^_^ Good Luck

I personally thought the Rider Waite tarot cards were great for beginners.
