History: Riarna grew up at High Telgar Hold before being accepted into the Weavercraft at 11. When she began showing a talent for embroidery, she was accepted as a special apprentice to the embroidery Master in addition to her usual classes, developing a fine eye and steady hand for the intricate work. She also learned to be a fair hand at weaving cloth, and often in the years following her leaving the Hall wove her own fabrics for use. Riarna made few friends at the Hall, but she loved slipping into Gathers for a cup of wine and booth-browsing on her own or with one other person. She achieved her Journeywoman status at 20 and was send to Benden Weyr, as they were in need of an extra set of hands. With her days taken up by making shirts and pants for Candidates and weyrfolk, Riarna found little time for embroidering and so it instead became a hobby, indulged in only when she had the time to keep her skills active. She spends part of her free time weaving fabric, and always tries to make one embroidered item every eight sevendays or so. Over five years she has amassed a fair stack of garments, some for herself, some gifts for family or her few friends, some made with the intent to sell them to a vendor at a Gather.

Description: Riarna keeps her dark brown hair long and loose, preferring not to bind it up unless she needs it out of her way when she embroiders or cooks. Her blue eyes are her most memorable feature, since they provide a sharp contrast from her dark hair. Although she enjoys doing her work outside when it is warm, she spends a lot of her weaving time inside at her loom, keeping her skin from getting too much of a tan. Her wardrobe is obviously a mix of bought clothing and clothing items she or her father have made, but she rarely splurges on clothing for herself, keeping enough respectable dresses for while she is at work or out, and only one or two finer pieces for Gathers or any special events that might come up. Unless someone were besotted with her, it would be safe for them to say she isn't quite pretty, but she's not really plain either. She looks sensible, is what it is, and if not overtly friendly, at least like someone you could trust even if you didn't like them.

Personality: Riarna tends to be rather keep-to-herself, aside from the obligatory friendly manner with customers, and she enjoys her privacy. If she doesn't get enough time alone during the day she tends to get short with people until she can settle down and relax in the quiet of her home. She has a bad habit of judging others on perceived negative attributes, though she usually keeps her thoughts to herself to avoid the risk of offending others, and always has them in mind just in case the other person does something rude. Not to say she dislikes people, she's just aware of their flaws and has a bad habit of thinking uncharitable things about other people if all isn't going well (even if things are simply not going well for her). This habit has the effect of forewarning her against anyone not compatible with her, so she can step lightly around them and school her expression appropriately (a talent that comes in handy for her). Riarna also tends to avoid blondes as she has a particular distaste for them. They always seem to be the most fawned on, or considered the most attractive, get the most luck and so on, so she tends to harbor ill-will towards them even if she has no idea who they are. It's probably just as well that she prefers her men to be equal to or darker than herself, and that so much of the population of Pern is not blonde.

It's only her smooth tongue, easy and believable with flattery or topic changes, that keeps her bad habits from coming to the surface most of the time and has saved her from ruining potential sales. She knows well when to keep silent and when to speak up, and usually the better choice is just staying silent and letting someone else carry the conversation until her contribution is really needed.

Other: Riarna is fascinated by firelizards, and even though they always seem to cause noise, she has the hopes of getting at least one flit egg and having it hatch into a quiet flit to be a companion for her.
