A new delivery had just come in. Journeywoman Riarna, just finished with weaving a bolt of standard undyed cotton and packing it away, could hear them from the back and headed forward to see what they had gotten and what needed to be done. She knew they were expecting new thread, but when she looked at the pile on the counter she could tell the Master had added a few extra things to that order. That made sense. It would have wasted the trip to just get some thread.
"Riarna, take these back to the storeroom for now, please," the Master Weaver instructed as he counted out marks for the man waiting at the counter.
Riarna nodded silently to the order and hefted a new stack of cloth. There were an assortment of colors here, all good for any formal or Gather dress needs. Knowing how often those kind of requests came to the Weavers of the weyr-- infrequently-- the cloth would likely last a good long while unless there was a Gather people wanted to buy new outfits for or someone really preferred dyed cloth for their rider shirts instead of white. Again, both of those options were unlikely.
Riarna set the bundle down in the back with the rest of the immediate Weaver supplies. No matter the state of the Weaver store room, colored cloth, being more expensive, was kept on hand, unlike some of the surplus standard materials that were tucked into little storerooms around the weyr. Riarna was glad. A drudge would have been the one moving the materials if it had to go anywhere outside of the Weavers' workroom.
She moved past her fellow journeymen and the Master Weaver on her way back to the front of the room. They had received a few orders for new shirts and one need of a new Candidate's robe, but that didn't require all of the people in the room. Therefore, while the Master sorted through paperwork, Riarna went to sit in the front in case any one else came in. She drew a shirt in need of mending from a pile and began to hand-stitch a patch on to it. Mostly these would be clothes used for Weyrlings at their messiest lessons. She couldn't imagine who would want to be seen in less than their best at any other time. Probably some careless slacker.
