I hate puck. you shouldnt even waste your time.
Why not? what's wrong with the misfits, dead kennodys, the ramones and the casualties?

Because punk is about image, not the music itself. The music sounds like s**t, simple and repetitive s**t.
Actually its completely opposite, but alright.

Dead Kennedys have awesome bass. It plays as good a role as the guitar. They trade places sometimes in the music. You can tell by my sig that I wuf them.

If punk is about image, then how come I listen to punk? I'm the least punkish person ever. I support a lot of punk's views and my pants are tight, but I don't do anything else.

Technique and effects. And playing styles.

Well, a classic punk-rock technique is to use a pick and Strum the hell out of the bass until the amp explodes and the bass catches fire. (Ok, i added a little extra...)

I haven't really heard about too many bass-effects for old school punk, but if you want to try something that makes a little more noise you could always just try a distortion pedal wink

The number one thing i'd suggest is learning how to double pick. The best punk bass lines are played at like.. 200 bpm. As far as all the punk nay-sayers, I've never seen an audience more moved by music than at a punk rock concert. But the term "punk" is being used rather loosely today. Minor threat somehow got in the same class as simple plan?

Why would I care about what a bunch of musicians have to say about politics?
*Shrugs* hey man, People listen to music for differant things, I dont know what YOU listen to it for, but someone might listen to it for political messages.
What do I listlen for? musicality, it has to involve more than a bunch of 8th notes and crapy lyrics, and power chords, and usually when i listen to good music like Cream; usually there is a guitar solo! or are people in punk bands so untalented that they can't solo!

Then dont listen to it genius. And just because they dont does not mean thay cant. And in some songs there are solo's, there not seeing just how fast you can move your fingers but they work with the song. And who are you to say what is good music hmm? Some people like the quick and simple punk riffs. So next time you listen to your "good music" just know that there are people, ones that are knowladgeable about music even that still think it sounds like crap.

1. Cream is the shizz. There's no denying that.
2. Because music is popular, or well-liked, does not make it good. For instance, Green Day right now is selling more records than Mozart, or any other classical musician for that matter. Does that make Green Day better than Mozart? Pshaw. Of course not. Ask just about any punk "singer" (and i put that in quotes because I have yet to hear true singing out of a punk band) what key they sing in for a particular song, and they will probably have a puzzled look on their face. . . if you can see it through their bangs and eyeliner, that is.

1. Agreed.
2. This had nothing to do with anything. I didn't see anyone bring up this topic. And while I agree with the idea that popularity=/= talent, your attitude and total close mindedness towards punk makes me want to hurt you. Considering Green Day isn't punk...AFI isn't punk...MCR is definitly not punk. Actual punk hasn't gotten and mainstream attention since sometime in the early 90's..

And actually on topic.
Root notes, pick, chug. That's all.

Thank God!
Someone who actually used PROPER ********' ENGLISH.
God, I'm starting to think this guild is mostly comprised of dipshits and jerks who can't spell to save their life.

Please tell me I'm wrong on this one?

And, to stay on topic, Punk was music; and screw you all who are closed minded and feel that just because you don't like it means it isn't music.
As far as you "I hate rap" people go:

There is a group called "Eyedea & Abilities.
They are rap.
They have a larger rock following than hip-hop following.
I doubt most of you have even heard of Ryhmesayers Inc., so go check out some of there stuff, listen to the lyrical genius, and then; and only then if you don't like it, you may b***h and moan about it.

And Punk bass is fairly easy to play, what you have to work on is your body movements.
