Hey, Anyone here no anything about punk bass? punk like the remones, anti flag, the misfits, casualties, ect ect.. I have to put this band together in four months to cover for this opening band that is out.

I cant really tell you a playing style.
I mean in theory I can atempt to describe some to you,
But your style is somthing you have to develop on your own.

Punk bass (and guitar for that matter) is rather simple and repetitive.
A good mode for you might be the Mixolydian. It looks like this...

Each "O" is a note in the mode. It can be played anywhere on the fretboard.
If that's confusing, here's an example.
Scale - C Major
Mode - G Mixolydian
3__3__3__
_________4
5__5__5__5
__________
7__7__7__7
And if this is still confusing, this is the sequence of notes in the Mixolydian:
Root note/Whole Step/Whole Step/Half Step/Whole/Whole/Half/Whole

Necrobutcher Knight60 I hate puck. you shouldnt even waste your time. Why not? what's wrong with the misfits, dead kennodys, the ramones and the casualties? Because punk is about image, not the music itself. The music sounds like s**t, simple and repetitive s**t.

Its all about the message in punk, not the music. like 80s rap. it told you something in the music, be it political, satire, or social. it made a point.

Right, but rap back then was talented. Whether you like it or not, rapping back then was full of poetic devices and was far more lyrical than anything rap has put out recently. 80's rap took talent, punk takes rebellious ignorance and power chords.

angrymalazar Why would I care about what a bunch of musicians have to say about politics? *Shrugs* hey man, People listen to music for differant things, I dont know what YOU listen to it for, but someone might listen to it for political messages.

you all probly think I'm an avid listener of punk, But im not that big on the genre itself. Thats the reason why i started this forum, to learn more about it and its bass styles.
