merry meet,

good afternoon, thank ypu for the help, this was very usefull, ive been interested in wicca for a very long time but thanks to insane christian ex bf i had to throw away my books and tools, so im basicaly starting from scratch sad

Blessed be

Ouch, sorry to hear about that. Best of luck in your journey for knowledge though and remember, we Christians are not all insane!

Lol not all are, but some are scary, lol i went to a church once and old ppl where havin sezures!!! i never went back lol

What you were witnessing was probably something we call "speaking in tongues." It is something that usually occurs when someone is filled with the "holy spirit." People experience it differently, some people are rather vocal or theatrical.
It sounds like an apostolic church like the Church of God. The vast amount of churches are not that... lively.

Or a southern church, churches here in the south are rampant with that sort of thing. I haven't been to many churches around here that don't have at least one person doing something like that.

I was raised Christian in the North and ended up in Florida married to a very Southern Baptist wife. I was really shocked when the pastor was giving his sermon and "Amen!!" started erupting all over the place. But before we derail this thread I believe it was about the God & Goddess, lets get back to that.

Right, lol, I will merely close my statement with this, things are just...done differently down here. Some of it is rather unsettling to me but, I guess it's just custom. So, yes, back to the topic at hand.

Merry meet,
just a random question, ive read that you should follow what gods and goddesses seem to stand out to you, but is it ok to blend them from different cultures like celtic and greek?

blessed be,
argintmoon question
Depends on which aspect of the Celts are you looking at. As far as I know the Welsh, and the Gaul are pretty open to outsiders. The Gael...mmm not so much. Well excluding Brigid and Lughd. It's best to ask them if they would mind, or ask someone who does worship those deities to see how open the cultures may be.

The Devine go by many names and titles. What is is, and not every culture was goning to have the same image of them. The point of ECLECTIC Wicca is that you are free to include what works for you. The touchstone is, 'Does this feel right to your heart."

Remember the purpose of TRUE religion is to build a relationship with the Devine and fill a need in your life, not to do a bunch of rituals in "just the right way" b/c those are the rules. The Devine is much more interested in you as the person you were born to be than part of a herd that is repeating the same old rhetoric. You should be to. biggrin

I could NOT agree more!

I live in the south (too) and I've never seen that happen, haha, but then again I havent attended a church in well over 9 years and all of the people who were there were oldies~

to return to the topic of God and Goddess....

My favorite story of them so far is a creation story in one of my secondhand books~ heart

It's rather commonplace where I am from. What state do you hail from? I'm located in AL.

It's so long, it would take me ages to type it~
Basically it goes like this:

In the beginning there was Nothing, and Nothing turned upon itself and became the One, which split itself into two beings who we call the Goddess and God. The Goddess danced in the darkness and from her hair sparks flew and became the stars, and the God drummed and created the Planets, which began to dance with the Goddess. Together the Goddess and God decorated the Earth and fashioned humanity to share in the love they created.

It's a lot more detailed in my book and I'm sure I left out a few things, but that's the jist of it. Its quite a lovely story. :3 In another version, the Goddess does all of the creating herself and then the God is born to help watch over Earth. Another thing they say in this version is that although the One split itself into two, the two are the same and the One is there connecting all things together. (personally believe its a river of energy)
