I also want to be cremated. Somebody intelligent once said that some of the best land on Earth is wasted on cemetaries and golf courses, and most places won't let you just be buried in the woods somewhere. sweatdrop
I had to read Tuesdays With Morrie for part of my pre-first year summer reading for college. It had just recently come out and made a huge splash, and since the author attended and Morrie had taught at our university and it was mentioned repeated in the first chapter.... Well, you know how those things are. rolleyes I didn't really like it, primarily for that reason - I was being forced to read it. Blech. What's the point of making somebody read an inspirational book? Doesn't that sort of defeat the purpose? neutral

I know being buried is probably more environmentally friendly (less carbon emmissions, recyling nutrients etc.) but the idea of rotting away, going mouldy and being eaten by maggots freaks me out.....It's wierd because I do realise I wouldn't 'be there' to know' about it but still... *shudders* Plus the fear of being buried alive, unlikley yeah, but it has happened... *shudders again* So, I'd like for the rest of my body that wasn't donated to be cremated - ideally by being chucked into a renewable energy producing biomass plant... I wonder how many lightbulbs I could power... If you think about it, you won't have to see your body after your dead. ^_^;; Very true. The body is pretty much just a transport system and then it goes back to the earth! Exactly, that's why I want to give my shell to the earth to provide nurishment to one of my most favorite trees. ^_^ I do agree it's better to be buried, and I do know I wouldn't be seeing my own dead self (I don't do religions) - but I just can't seem to be able to shake the corpse image. Maybe being chopped up for petfood to feed the carnivorous animals like foxes at a wildlife rescue centre would be better.

I want to be buried in a coffin of oak wood without any embalming fluid so that I'll decay quickly and naturally and I want a garden planted over me.

I don't believe in organ donation, so there will be none of that.
I would like to be not embalmed, and put in a wooden box and thrown into a pit of earth so my body can decompose how it is supposed to.
I wish that could happen.
However, I will probably end up getting cremated.

Hmm...I rather like that idea, but I'd like to throw in a little bit more.
I would like my body to be buried in one of the least likely of places to bury a body, in a landfill that's no longer used, or maybe land that was the victim of mining, the point is I want my remains to be buried somewhere where a great deal of environmental hurt was administered.
Perhaps my remains will be just the right pill needed to cure the land of it's illness, after a few local plants and such are planted over grave they may use the land made fertile by my body to grow and spread, perhaps returning the land to it's former glory.
What good are the other achievements we leave behind for others to remember us by whenever they're usually rather destructive? This is one achievement that if successful will actually prove to be one of the greatest achievements you can leave behind, a plot of land that will grow from a wasteland to an ever more greener field, one that may very well last long after everything else that was part of your world turns to dust (provided unsustainable logging stays away or no one discovers some valuable commodity underneath your grave).
Even if it doesn't turn into a great green field, at least there's still the chance of someone stumbling upon a green island surrounded by wasteland, and out of curiosity walking up and spotting my grave marker.

When I die, I would like as many of my organs to be donated as is possible. I want the rest burned, and the ashes given to the winds. I would like a small plaque, nothing fancy, saying something to this effect:
Her ashes were taken by the wind, settled on the ground, in the forest, over the sea. Her body is as her soul; dispersed.
