Wander Once Again - New Aquaintances?Thread here Tirokio The morning was anew, the birds twittering in the treetops as the morning glow cast its warm rays over the fields of grass. It was a spectacular morning in the azure orbs of one pup, her tail thumping against the soft terra as she survey'ed the land. Squinting her eyes lightly as jaws opened to yawn, the pup shook her head afterwards. Bindi's life had begun not too long ago, her first breath, her first recognition of her parents...not to mention her first steps.
Of course, that was a -long- time ago...as she would go to explain. Rising from her haunches to stand and stretch her legs, Bindi gave a soft whine of lonliness....was she the only pup or wolf around here? Faidrae
Nymmeria cast a wary eye around the woods, noting the rising of the sun above the tree tops. Everything was dewy, and her feet were slick with the moisture.
In the near distance she heard a little whimpering noise. Approaching the edge of the woods, she spotted a young puppy. What was a creature so young doing out along? She scanned the are warily for other wolves. No, the little one seemed to be the only one present.
Nymmerian took a half step out of the woods, to stand bathed half in sun, half in shade, showing off her strangely marked pelt, waiting for the pup to notice her.
katersaur Thumping along a well trodden path, a wolf pup the color of the setting sun hummed some anceint tune. He seemed rather pleased with himself, his head and tail held high and his step as regal as a youngster's could be. He had reason, though, and that lay in the limp body hanging from his mouth. He had /finally/ done it. The little mouse had been rather easy prey, what with a broken leg and all, but it still felt like some sort of an achievement. It was his first kill, and such an occasion had to mean something. At least, in his mind it did. It had been hard, but had also been made easier with the help of a raven that had pointed out the injured creature to the pup with his flying patterns. Papa was right; the birds did have great signals to show. They were something to be cherished. For now, however, he simply wanted to eat his snack.
Bobbing his head to the little song he was humming merrily, Litre hardly spotted another pup on the path. His eyes saw only vicotry, and if it hadn't been for his nose, he would've run right in to her. Widening his eyes to get a better view, he instantly stopped his tune and stood stock still, unsure of what to do. What if she wanted to take his mouse? He had worked hard to get it, he sure as heck deserved it. No pup was going to take it from him, no pup! It was his. The inner turmoil didn't seem to plan on quitting any time soon, which was really a shame. With all of this thinking, he didn't remember to say hello, or even acknowledge the other wolf's existence. Instead, he stood there, prize in jaw, trying to decide if she was friend or foe. Faidrae
She stuck her snout into the air, and inhaled deeply. It seemed more wolves were in the immediate area. She took another step out into the sun, full showing off her pelt tat looked like muddy water with weeds tangled over her feet.
Nymmeria hoped the others would be younger, or at least weaker than she was. While she was strong for her stature, she doubted she could win in a fight with a larger male. Or a medium male. Or even maybe a small male.
Tirokio Flattening her ears to her skull, the pup's tail dipped down to remain motionless....were her parents not supposed to meet her here soon? She had been waiting since the crack of the sun over the horizon...and not a soul had arrived. Giving a soft sigh, her sunlicked pelt shimmered under the sun as she turned to leave...when a presence caused her to feel a tingle in her paws. Perking her ears back up, her head turned around the meadow in search for something when her eyes caught sight of another wolf near the forest line. Pausing for only a breif moment to think about the situation, she let out a short yip; a test if she would respond or not. Yet as this female stepped out of the shadows, her tail wagged, It was life!
However, her excited demeanor faded as her body snapped around to look back...another pup? Eyes widening as this male remained still and weary with a mouse between his jaws, Bindi cocked her head to the side in cusiosity of this male. She had eaten already, so the mouse was of none of her concern really. "Hullo..?" She spoke timidly, would he attack her?
Chibi Sheepcat Sekani's ears twitched at the sounds of the birds twittering, opening one pale eye to stare at his surroundings. Night had come and gone, morning taking its place and bringing with it the warmth and light it always brought. And with the light came the birds, the wolf mute noted, as he rolled up onto all fours. He stretched, giving his tawny fur a good shake, skin and fur stretched over lean muscle and faintly visible bones. He was not a starved wolf, but not one as strong or well-fed as a wolf of a pack. But such was life.
A soft whine in the distance caught his attention, and Sekani's black-tipped ears perked in interest. What was this? Was there another wolf in these lands? He had been sure that he wasn't invading another wolf's territory when he'd stopped to hunt the previous night. Judging by the pitch of the whine, the wolf didn't sound too old. Perhaps it was just a wanderer like himself. Curiousity killed the cat but not the wolf, and Sekani set off in the direction of the whine.
Before he got near enough to identify the source of the whine Sekani paused. There were other wolves here. He was hesitant to investigate if it meant confrontation. After a moment he decided to press on, and moved cautiously towards the sound of the whine. He had only taken a few steps when another wolf moved, exposing herself. Sekani tilted his head, wondering if she had been the one who whined. No... there were pups here. He could smell them. Now the question was, were they hers? Faidrae
Standing in the sun, she watched the puppies closely, not noticing Sekani until his eyes were on her. He was slim, but he was larger than her. Nymmeria felt her hair raise up. She didn't think she was in anyone's territory ... But what if this was his? What if these were his puppies?
She dropped her eyes, and approached him with her tail tucked under her. She remained a good ten paces away. " Is this your place? " She asked in a quiet voice. Her entire body was tense, ready to spring away should he start to come after her.
Tirokio Opening her canines to once again speak to the honey-hue'd pup, she yipped out of startle as another navy boy literally flew out of the bushes and tried to snatch the mouse from the other. It seemed like seconds when the two were gone, paws pounding the terra as they vanished into the dense bushes. With eyes still wide, her heart slowly began to settle down from the scare....yet once again, she was alone.
Cowering slightly as her whine rose up again, her head slowly turned to spot the pair of older wolves at the forests edge. Although instinct told her that it would probably be best if she just remained where she was...the feeling of being alone was something that she did not enjoy in the slightest. Thus, under better judgement, she slowly trotted over to the pair, her ears flat and her tail only swaying very slightly. Giving a short whine so both could hear, her gaze flittered from one to the other before giving a shy, "Hullo.." Chibi Sheepcat The moment Nymmeria's hair stood up Sekani feared that his suspicions had been true. They must have been her pups, whether by birth or not. She didn't seem to be too upset by his approach though, so he remained still. One ear flicked back when she approached him, somewhat interested by her posture. Did she think that he was in charge here? Or maybe she was afraid of him? It was hard to imagine that anyone would be afraid of him, but Sekani was familiar with the ways of lone wolves. They were cautious around everyone, especially those who looked stronger than themselves.
At her question, the wolf shook his head. No, these were not his lands. So that's what she must have been worried about. Well, now that that was cleared up, Sekani saw no need for the female to be tense. His ear flipped forward, dipping his head in a silent greeting and giving his tail a small wag. She didn't have to worry. He wasn't going to hurt her or the pups, whether they were hers or not.
An ear swivelled to the side at the approach of one of the pups and Sekani turned to look at her. He wagged his tail in her direction, tilting his head as he regarded her quietly. She was young, he mused, though not too young to be out alone. Did she belong to the female? The male glanced between the pair, trying to decide if his hypothesis had been true. Tirokio Perking her ears as the male gazed her way with a polite yet silent jesture, her tail began to wag more swiftly. Taking a few steps foreward, she leant up on the tips of her paws to sniff at his nose..it was the first time she had seen another adult other than her own parents. "Hullo there! Who're you?" She piped up in a tiny voice, observing his pelt and stature as she was well aware she was tiny in comparison. He must be fast!
"I'm Bindi!" She coo'ed, smiling proudly as she puffed her little chest out...the name suited such a small female. In the back of her mind, she had wondered where the pups had run off too, yet it didn't matter much. She enjoyed the company of anyone, and this older male was no different if he would talk to her. Faidrae
Nymmeria's hair flattened back down at the muzzle dip and tail wag. She inclined her head respectfully, her own tail now wagging. She cast a glance at the romping puppies, who seemed to have materialized. None seemed to be related, their coats were too different.
The small she-wolf scented the air once more, just to check if any others were lurking in the under growth. Once satisfied with her relavtive safety, she returned her attention to the grown male.
" Who are you ? " She was curious by nature, almost to fault, and often to near rudeness, which seemed to be the current case. " Sorry. That didn't come out right. I'm Nymmeria, what are you called ? "
The sun was rising higher, turning her usually muddy looking forequaters to a golded colour. Her rear and middle were still the deep almost black, and the twisting green bits looked off in the light. But her eyes were almost golden, unchaged from their usual.
Chibi Sheepcat Sekani blinked when the pup touched his nose, momentarily surprised. Was this...an affectionate gesture? It must be. She was, after all, wagging her tail. He supposed it was because the only pups he'd known were Reicher's, mainly Guaf, who wasn't known for being nice. He'd been the pup's slave in a sense, and while the mute wolf hadn't minded, it had definitely shaped his view on pups. Though, on second thought, he supposed he couldn't judge all pups based off of Guaf. That wouldn't be fair, now would it?
His ears perked at the mention of her name, and a small lupine smile curved at his lips. Bindi. The name suited her. And the female was called Nymmeria. Sekani wagged his tail in response, before he paused, trying to decide how to tell them that he couldn't speak. It was difficult, especially when he had to try and tell pups. Adults took it a bit better, but sometimes little ones didn't understand. Finally, the wolf decided that the best way was to just open and close his mouth. Hopefully that would tell them that he couldn't speak. Tirokio Binking with intrest, Bindi watched and waited for the male's reply, seeing the Female also curious to him. Smiling sweetly as her tail refused to stop swaying side to side, her eyes wandered to the older femme. She was rather pretty indeed, Bindi was jealous as wolves probably would never want to leave her alone. Overhearing her name, the pup rolled it around in her head for a few moments, before deciding she also liked her name too.
Looking back to the male just to see his jaws shut, her eyes widened as she thought she had zoned out and missed his name! Giving a small yip, she seemed to panic for a moment on her rudeness, before giving a big, sheepish smile. "I'm sorries! I didn't hear you.." She flopped one of her ears down to plead her case that she was sorry...unaware that he hadn't spoken a single word. Chibi Sheepcat Had she understood? Her attention had apparently wandered, as was evident by the fact that the pup suddenly looked at him sheepishly. Sekani chuckled inwardly. She thought she hadn't been paying attention, and so she'd missed what he had to say. How cute. If only that had been the case. Unfortunately, that wasn't, and he was going to have to explain the situation again. Sekani opened his mouth, this time leaving it open for a good minute, before closing it and giving Bindi and apologetic smile. Perhaps that was a better approach. At least she was focused this time. Tirokio 'Okay, Pay attention!' Bindi told herself firmly in her mind, not wanting to be rude and miss his name for a second time! Thankful for his calm and understanding demeanor, it allowed the pup to relax and not fret about what he would think of her. Yet as the moment came when he would once again enlighten her on the secret which was his name. Leanding closer in anticipation as her full undivided attention lay on Sekani...his mouth opened...this was it!
.....and nothing came out. Unable to comprehend for a moment, her muzzle cocked to the side as she debated if he spoke in such a pitch that even she couldn't hear. Naawww. That was impossible. Standing, she once again sniffed at his mouth...perhaps there was a frog in his throat? Smelling nothing out of the ordinary, she seemed to be in thought for a moment as she observed his appologetic smile. Was he sorry? Did he not want her to know his name? "I....Why don't words come out? Are they stuck?" She questions, her childish logic slightly able to comprehend the situation....in a very broad view. katersaur Tre scratched absently at his ear while Alexander figured out what the trio should do. No matter where they went, he'd be fine with it, so long as they eventually tumbled along the tan female. He was curious about her now, and he really did want to eat his mouse at some point in time. The body on his head was just oozing yummy smells, and it was almost torture to not devour it right then and there. The dark blue pup's howling pulled his thoughts and eyes away from the top of his head, however, and he was suddenly confronted with a new challenge. How do you howl while balancing something? On the ground the rodent went once again, now severely abused in its death. Without so much as a second thought, Litre took the other male's lead and lifted his head out for a puppish howl, which ended up more like a yip than anything else. It was the best he could do in his young age, no matter how awkward it seemed, and he even felt a little pride as it meshed with the other two's melodies. There were few things in life as exhilerating as sharing a song with fellow wolves, and even a pup could appreciate it. Chibi Sheepcat Sekani would have laughed at Bindi's concentrated look if he had been able. She was really too cute, especially since she thought that she had missed his words the first time. Even if she had not heard his name the wanderer would not have taken offense. He didn’t let himself get bothered by such things. It wasn't like she had been blatantly disrespecting him. She just had a short attention span, as most pups did. One had to be patient and forgiving with the young ones, even ones as cruel as Guaf. In comparison, getting named "Snail" was much worse than having a pup ask him to repeat his name.
The male held still and let her sniff, watching silently as she tried to figure out what he was telling her. After a moment, she seemed to come to her own conclusion. He smiled a little at her logic. Yes, one could say that the words were stuck, for he did have a voice. It wasn't a very nice one though, his damaged voice causing his voice to be extremely rough. The sound was there, in case he needed to get a point across, it just wasn't very effective. He could only manage a sort of hollow, raspy bark should he need to. He could try his name, he decided, as he had done with Reicher. Bindi had, after all, deserved it.
With a quiet cough, Sekani attempted to sound out his name. It was rough, and it made his throat feel strange, but he managed a soft "Se", then a "Ka", and then finally a rather squeaky "Ni." There. He'd gotten it out. The apologetic smile was back as he gave his tail a small wag. Hopefully she wouldn't ask him to repeat that. Tirokio Body immediately tensing at his cough, Bindi remained perfectly still as he began to speak his name in syllabuls. His voice was raspy, rough, and almost scary to her ears....yet somehow, it suited this older male. "Se..." She began to repeat what he said, to make sure she got it right. "Ka.....ni. Seka...ni. Sekani! Thats your name!" She yipped happily, giving a small jump backwards as she twirled in a circle before facing him once more. "Sekani! I likes it! Does it hurt to talk? You must have a lot of words stuck in there. Thats okay! I'll try not to speak too!" She decided and have a deep nod of her head...well, before she heard the chorus of howls in the distance.
Twisting her head around, it sounded like the puppies earier...yet having so little experience with howls; she wasn't sure what they wanted. Turning back to Sekani with a confused look, she thought it best to answer them, before making a face realizing that she just said she wouldn't talk. "Oh...well maybe in a bit I won't talk okay?" She smiled, turning her body towards the sound and cleared her throat. Now, Bindi was slightly smaller than most pups her age, even the females...however, as she lifted her snout to the air one wouldn't have been the wiser. Letting out a rather loud and on key howl, her mother had told her that sometimes biggest heart's and souls are in the smaller bodies....so Bindi sung out her soul song as loud as she could. After the howl died down, she looked back to Sekani with a smile and a wag of her tail...still happy to have met him in the first place. Chibi Sheepcat Sekani nodded brightly when she repeated his name, glad for once that he hadn't had to resort to letting a pup choose his name. Snail wasn't exactly the most attractive of names. He was lucky that Bindi had been paying attention this time, and even more so that she seemed to understand that he didn't like talking. It was always a relief when other wolves caught onto the fact quickly. The less stress on his vocal chords, the better. He laughed inwardly when she told him she liked his name, his tail wagging happily. It was his way of saying "I'm glad". He tilted his head when she declared that she was going to try not to speak, amused.
Sekani had come to care less and less about the words and more about the emotions behind them. Since he was limited only to expressing feelings, this was a lot easier than it sounded. But not for a pup. Pups like Bindi needed to be able to speak, especially since they had a lot to say. There was no need for Bindi to take a vow of silence so early. He was about to express his curiousity about her choice when he heard a noise. His ears perked at the sound of the howl, recognizing it as one of the puppy's. The pup didn't sound like he was in danger, so Sekani didn't give it much thought. Bindi, however, seemed eager to answer it. It seemed that the vow of silence was over rather early.
With a soft smile he listened to her howl, grin widening when she looked back at him. He wagged his tail in response, glancing in the direction of the original howl. He nodded that way and tilted his head. Did she want to join the other pups?
