I'm not really sure. e__e;; Maybe, just maybe, we'll hear about her and the child later on. I've been curious about it as well. Since it never does say for sure whether or not it is the Sacred Ancestor's child. Just,
"Is it his?" D asked once more. "I couldn't help it you know," Tae said. The girl thought she sounded like an old lady. "What could I do? Either of them could've killed me with just one finger. I had no choice but to do as they told me." "When did you realize it?" "Back when I was still in the castle.... "In the case of this child, it'll be about six months after you noticed the first indications." As if to distance herself from something unseen, Tae took a step backwards. "What do you mean,'in the case of this child'?" "If it's his child, your baby will be no ordinary dhampir." "What are you trying to say?" "Lets go back." "No. Tell me. What'll my baby be like? It couldn't be," Tae mumbled. "It couldn't be..." The second time she said it, she tried to invest the words with nothing but horror. But something had welled up inside her. Although she wasn't even aware of it, Tae was now hopelessly in its power, under the sway of a sad yet mysterious delight. "Just like you..." she continued. (Pilgrimage of the Sacred and the Profane, pg. 124-125)
Now I'm really thinking about it. e__e; It just lays down D's suspicions and such, even though he later defends Tae and her baby.
Gently setting Tae down on the ground, the Hunter in black slowly straightened up again. "Leave her alone," he said. Though his tone didn't hold so much as a hint of a threat,it froze not only Granny, but the Frontier's greatest warriors as well. D's eyes were glowing deep red--the color of blood. "See... You see that?" Granny said, the words spilling from her trembling lips. "Would you look at your face now? That's what Tae's kid will be like, too. No matter how handsome he might be born, or how much stronger than a human being, in the end he'll always show that face. And every time he does--mark my words--every time that happens, everything he's managed to build up 'til then is finished. Not just once or twice. Every time."(Pg. 166)
It seems like D had some sort of bond with them, and I don't think he'd really have that with someone who would be carrying an ordinary dhampir child... Because honestly, as tough as D is, we know that he has to be suffering somewhat emotionally, and I don't think he'd want anyone to share his fate. The child Hugh says that D looks sad at least.
"Well, he's a good-looking guy, and his eyes were so kind." "Kind eyes, eh?" said D. "That's right. And kinda sad, too. Like yours, mister." Beneath the blue sky, a pair of gorgeous young men moved on-one inside a coffin, the other on the back of a horse. Both with sad eyes. But perhaps the real question was whether or not D's eyes were kind.(Pale Fallen Angel, Part 1, pg. 107)
Is it just me, or does it seem that D has a serious soft spot for children? ... Lots of hidden text O_O

I'm taking my time with this volume, as the last time I read it, I nearly skimmed it because I was too excited to enjoy it thoroughly.
*spoiler* There is indeed a connection between D and Tae-- it's something more than what Hideyuki puts him through with the other female characters in the series. It's more than romance or friendship.
I'd like Hideyuki Kikuchi to put out some a novel, or even a short story that tells of D's mother. His father is interesting enough, as we get to learn a bit more of his back story with each passing book, but I think his readers ought to know his mother's story. That little recollection with Count Magnus Lee in the first volume isn't enough. And if, as someone mentioned in this thread, that the timeline isn't the same as our own, then our speculation about Mina could be wrong. Seeing as no one knows, save for the author himself, there's no absolute way to know for sure unless the author says otherwise.
D does indeed have a soft spot for children. His relationship with Dan was really touching.
*spoiler* Even though D had no intentions of doing anything more than his work to save Doris from Count Lee, he went against his word and stood up for Dan when Greco made his appearance in the first chapter, after the battle with Larmica and Garou the night before. And D's intentions were to not get the entire town involved, but seeing as he's dealing with a vampire, word traveled fast, and soon, everyone was on his case.
Out of all the relationships he's had with children, I think the one with May and Hugh were the best... I don't know why, but Hugh reminded me much of Dan. I think it was because Dan wasn't afraid of what D really was, even though vampires were the most fearsome creatures, and parents and villages would pound that notion into their psyche until it stuck with them for life. Not only that, but the kids relationship with Baron Byron Balazs and Lady Miska were really enjoyable. Especially when Miska knew what it felt like to save a human's life. That was a beautiful moment in Pale Fallen Angel.
I've replied to your hidden text with a wall of hidden text of my own. xD

I'm not sure if I mentioned this already, but I re-read Vampire Hunter D: Pilgrimage of the Sacred and Profane, and the ending was a total shocker to me, even if it was my umpteenth time reading it.
*spoiler* There was a moment when the group had reached their destination after crossing the desert. When D wasn't welcome to sleep in the local inn of Barnabas, he located himself to the ruins, where tests done by the Nobility were conducted. And of course, behind the source of the ruins was D's father, the Sacred Ancestor.
Granny Viper had delivered Tae to her remaining family, but she was ran out because her sister-in-law verbally abused her for being one of the Hidden. She found herself at the ruins where D was staying the night. A moment in the book found Tae cuddled with D, and he reminisced of a time something similar happening to him. This makes me think of that time in the first book with Doris Lang. This could just be all fan thinking and whatnot.
Also, what did you think of the fact that D would be having a sibling? There doesn't seem to be a mention of her in future books, and since is the case, I'm going to assume that she is still alive after the sixth book. And speaking of other characters, Bingo Bullow was indeed an interesting character, and one I would have liked to know more of.

Dead Astronaut in Space '"Ten thousand years ago, was there not the case of our Sacred Ancestor failing to attain a human maiden of his heart's desire?" ... "I have heard that the woman our Sacred Ancestor desired was named Mina the Fair, and she lived in the ancient Land of Angels. And it seems our Sacred Ancestor found the blood coursing beneath her night translucent skin sweeter and more delectable than any to ever wash across his tongue, though he had already drunk from the life founts of thousands of beauties."' (Kikuchi, pg. 131 of Vampire Hunter D Volume 1) I was able to find this passage, but not the one where it states that the Sacred Ancestor had made a human woman bear children and slay them and have her bear more. And about D's father-- it's quite obvious, even in the first book that Count Dracula is indeed D's father, but it's interesting to see how Hideyuki plays out the relationship between him and D. I believe there was a beautiful moment in Twin-Shadowed Knights that depicted the image of father and son, near the end of the book. "Each made a leap fifteen feet and entered the chest of the massive, shadowy form. Like a son being embraced by his father." (Kikuchi, pg. 280 of Vampire Hunter D: Twin-Shadowed Knight Parts One & Two Volume 13) About their birth, the fake D did mention about being taken away from their mother, I just can't seem to find the page at the moment. sweatdrop I'm currently re-reading both novels of Pale Fallen Angel, and I haven't come across a definite age for D-- but the number 5,000 does seem to be a popular number in Twin-Shadowed Knight. I guess since his mother is Mina the Fair, then D would then have to be older than five thousand years old-- which then would speculate, if we were to go with the Bram Stoker time line, then D would have been born in the Middle Ages, or somewhere around that time. But in the first passage I wrote down, Count Magnus Lee mentioned that the Sacred Ancestor had sought her about ten thousand years ago-- and if the Vampire Hunter D universe revolved around the year 12,090 A.D, then that would mean he claimed her in the late 2000's. And the ancient "City of Angels" could also mean Los Angeles, since Hideyuki mentioned in the postscript of Twin-Shadowed Knight, that the setting of the series take place in the futuristic great plains of America. But I do agree, there are many twists and turns in this series. As for his name-- I think there's a thread just for that, but I don't think any of us are closer to knowing it. Seems like Kikuchi and Amano are the only ones who know. :stressed: Apologies in advance for reviving an old thread. But I recently purchased the Vampire Hunter D Reader's Guide, and I noticed something. In something Kikuchi wrote in there(I don't have in on me at the moment), he said the "Land of Angles". I don't know if there was a messup in the translation, but he went on to say that the land of angles was London. It could very well be Mina Harker that was Mina the Fair then. When I can tomorrow, I'll quote things from the guide.

Dr Jin Love That's a very good find! O= Heres the entries in the little dictionary in the guide. My apologies for taking so long. ^^; Mina The only woman the Sacred Ancestor desired but couldn't attain. Her name is written with characters meaning "the fair." It is said she lived in ancient times in a place referred to as the "Land of Angles"-- which would be England to you and me. It's also said that it was due to Mina that the Sacred Ancestor was reduced to dust. Only taking part of the Sacred Ancestors entry. Sacred Ancestor Okay, there's no point in beating around the bush-this is Dracula. He's a godlike figure feared and respected by even the greatest of the Greater Nobility. In the novels, we often get as far as "Dra--" before all hell breaks loose and the speaker is interrupted. His love for Mina the Fair got him reduced to dust once. Apparently he rose again. From Stoker's Dracula: By this time the gypsies, seeing themselves covered by the Winchesters, and at the mercy of Lord Godalming and Dr. Seward, had given in and made no further resistance. The sun was almost down on the mountain tops, and the shadows of the whole group fell upon the snow. I saw the Count lying within the box upon the earth, some of which the rude falling from the cart had scattered over him. He was deathly pale, just like a waxen image, and the red eyes glared with the horrible vindictive look which I knew so well. As I looked, the eyes saw the sinking sun, and the look of hate in them turned to triumph. But, on the instant, came the sweep and flash of Jonathan's great knife. I shrieked as I saw it shear through the throat. Whilst at the same moment Mr. Morris's bowie knife plunged into the heart. It was like a miracle, but before our very eyes, and almost in the drawing of a breath, the whole body crumbled into dust and passed from our sight. I shall be glad as long as I live that even in that moment of final dissolution, there was in the face a look of peace, such as I never could have imagined might have rested there.

Angeles Valentine Vampire Hunter D: Raiser of Gales Quote: In 4018. While eating dinner in his home, the human artist Vernon Berry witnessed a certain Nobel attacking a beautiful woman in her bedroom in London, 1878. Though it took Berry three months he managed to complete a portrait of the attacker. And thus the painting that for six thousand years stood as the crowning masterpiece of all the images of the Sacred Ancestor came into being. Dracula Quote: 3 October. - ... His face was turned from us, but the instant we saw it we all recognized the count - in every way, even to the scar on his forehead. With his left hand he held both Mrs Harker's hands, keeping them away with her arms at full tension; his right hand gripped her by the back ofher neck, forcing her face down on his bosom. Her white nightdress was smeared with blood, and a thin stream trickled down the man's bare breast, which was shone by his torn-open dress. The attitude of the two had a terrible resemblance to a child forcing a kitten's nose into a saucer of milk to compel it to drink. Vampire Hunter D Quote: It is the year 12,090 A.D. The world has ended, ravaged in a firestorm of man's wars and madness. But from the wreckage a few humans managed to survive. A few humans... and something else. Vampire Hunter D: Pilgrimage of the Sacred and the Profane Quote: "Is it his?" That was all he had to say for Tae to understand. Out of the darkness, eyes that were fiery red points of light drew closer. "I couldn't help it, you know," Tae said. The girl thought she sounded like an old lady. "What could I do? either of them could've killed me with just one finger. I had no choice but to do as they told me." "When did you realize?" "Back when I was still in the castle. Do you know what month it'll be born? Ordinarily, it's supposed to take ten months and ten days for a baby." "Yes, ordinarily. In the case of this child, it'll be about six months after you notice the first indication." As if to distance herself from something unseen, Tae took a step backwards. "What do you mean, 'in the case of this child'?" "If it's his child, your baby will be no ordinary Dhampir." "What are you trying to say?" "Let's go back." "No. Tell me. What'll my baby be like? Although she wasn't aware of it, Tae was hopelessly in its power, under the sway of a sad yet mysterious delight. "Just like you..." she continued. Something cold touched her cheek. Before Tae realized it was D's left hand, her consciousness had become one one with the darkness. So, ideally D was born some time in March 1879. 12,090 -1,879 =10,211 in the first book, which took place around September.
