Yulan watched in awe as Kokoro sent the portions of ashes off of the hill in the form of fire birds. 'Magnificent ceremony for magnificent Captains...' She thought to herself as she raised her head to listen to the Captain Commander's speech. When their eyes met, Yulan felt something come over her. An indescribable rush that seemed to dash away her self doubt. It lit her inner fire, allowing the little voice inside her head to give Yulan a loud and clear message - don't give up, train and fight with every last breath. Once she was handed the urn, Yulan bowed respectfully before cradling it in her arms. It signaled the end of the ceremony, and now it was time to move on and prepare for whatever was in store. When called, Yulan had no doubt in her mind that she would fight and even die for her cause, so long as the law and order of the Soul Society was upheld. Yulan turned, heading back to her barracks to return the former Captain to his final resting place.

It was a strange sensation for the miniature captain, hiding physically and not just spiritually. However as the zero division might be able to recognize the princess, thus she wasn't taking any chances, even if her hair was different now. Turning her attention to the ceremony Chieko couldn't help it as her mind began to drift once more. Could she survive while keeping this charade up or will she have to sacrifice her freedom for duty. It was then that she thought of her lieutenant, sure he was mostly brawn, but he had skill. He'd also been bugging her for a while to learn Bankai; while she still felt he wasn't ready, these new developments may force her hand. The rouges were to strong to face without bankai for a lieutenant to survive, even captains weren't safe as this funeral showed. Watching the body burn to ash Chieko decided if the time came she needed her full power she would release it without fear of her father's wrath. Turning as the proceedings ended she used a shunpo and was gone.

"Some say I was just flare in the fire..."

With the final wrapping up of the cremation ceremony, a
silent tear ran down Akarui's face. She was never ever good with funerals, and
losing a comrade was almost unbearable.

She quickly wiped it away, and murmured her wishes for Ishtar to rest in peace. She felt Sakura come to her side and sullenly avoided speaking when
she heard Kokoro would discuss important matters. She looked to Sakura and smiled softly.

"I know you're feeling pain too, Sakura-chan." she
said. "We'll talk in the barracks after this meeting."

With that, Akarui slowly walked from the scene to the Head Commander's
Office.

{Exit: To Head Commander's Office.}

"But I am the ember that burns bright."

xxxSuke just shook his head at Jousake. He was trying to mess with them and Suke knew it. He looked back at Ai and raised an eyebrow to her as he saw her shrink further behind him, trying to hide from Jousake. "Su, I'm ready to go home now. There's to many people......." She whispered to him and he sighed, waiting patiently as Jousake healed his hand. After he was done, he opened and closed his hand a few times to make sure everything was in pace. He thought about the question before glancing back at Ai and frowned, hopefully letting Jousake know that he didn't want to tell the truth in front of Ai. "I tripped up the stairs and hurt my hand on our banister as Ai was having a nightmare." He said telling the lie his father had come up with to keep Ai from being upset again. In reality, he had stopped Ai's sword with his hand before she had hurt herself or their mother when she had that vision about Atsuhiko.

Jousake listened to Suke's explanation on what happened, and he merely raised his eyebrow. He had a hard time believing that account of events, but he didn't question it. "Jeez, talk about clumsy, huh?" Chuckling, Jousake then looked at Ai and smiled. "Could you keep an eye on your older brother for me? Seems to be that he gets himself hurt a lot lately..."

Smiling Jousake then sighed, as he looked at the two and waved at them. "Sorry to leave so soon, but I need to find Shu and speak with her. Hopefully the next time I'll see you two, you won't be hurt again." With that, Jousake smiled and left the hill, as she needed to check in with his daughter and see how she was holding up after Nocella's recent capture. [Exit]
