Ulorbbath

Ulorbbath, or the Black City, is a gigantic underground drow city-state many miles below Barton. It is a large cavern three miles in length, and a ceiling two miles high. Luminescent rocks are scattered across the vault, making it appear as though there are stars.

The city has different factions, or houses, all of which vie for power. It is currently under the indirect rule of House Rylinndar with its current ruler, Ulvira. A council of the first four powerful houses govern the city. Ulorbbath has 45,000 inhabitants, two-thirds drow, the rest humanoid slaves.

The chief trades are slaves, tasty mushrooms, poisons , riding lizards, spell scrolls, wine, rothe', and precious gems and stones.

Lolth is the patron goddess of Ulorbbath. Her worship is prevalent. All other faiths are forbidden with the exception of Selvetarm. The priestesses here do not look down so lowly on his clergy.

~*THE WAY OF LOLTH*~

These are the commandments of the Spider Queen, the rules by which every individual is subjugated to follow in this city.

This is also a guideline for priestesses.

Should one choose to disregard these laws, the individual will be punished accordingly.

I. Lolth is the only true deity. Any who serve or worship any other power or faith or its representatives are to be destroyed. The preferred method of this destruction is sacrifice to Lolth. Their names are to be forgotten, removed from all memory or writings. Their works are cast down or broken into rubble. Their descendants are destroyed as well unless said descendants already serve Lolth or have formally join her service and become accepted by her.

II. Rituals that worship any power other than Lolth are forbidden within the city’s great cavern. A non-drow can violate this one time. They are fined heavily and expelled from the city. They may return later. Second offenders, those who openly scorn Lolth, or drow who worship other than Lolth are slain. Merely uttering another power’s name is considered disrespectful and frowned upon but is rarely cause for formal punishment.

III.
In practice any drow who are suspected of following Vhaeraun will be magically interrogated and if such worship is proven to occur they are executed…even if this act of worship was not in Ulorbbath.

IV. Mistreatment of arachnids is not allowed and any such mistreatment results in a heavy fine as well as being whipped by a priestess of the spider queen. Anyone who kills an arachnid shall die. Anyone who mistreats a creature (anything from slave to beast of burden) that belongs to another house is fined and whipped by a priestess of the spider queen.

V. (A.) Refusal of a slave to follow an order given by a drow of the house that owns it is a fatal offense. The treatment of slaves is solely the affairs of the owners; others are not to get involved. Slaves have no rights and therefore there are no rules on punishments or duties that can be set for them.

(B.) A commoner and citizen of the city who refuses an order of a high priestess can be punished as the offended priestess deems fitting. This includes instant death. The only exception to this is if the commoner is the property of another house and then a noble of the house must be present and object to the punishment. If this happens a priestess and the matron of the house to which the commoner belongs must contrive a punishment that is then delivered by the offended priestess.
(C.) A student of the academy who refuses a priestess or a matron anything can be punished as the one who is offended deems appropriate. This includes instant death.

VI. The penalty of death is applied to any drow who falsely dons the colors or insignia of another house (except by the express permission from that house) or who alters their hairstyle and clothing as to appear to be a rank different from their own (again except by express permission of the owning matron).

VII. Any non-drow who uses any means to adopt the disguise of a specific drow, a drow of noble rank or a drow of a house other than their own must die.

VIII. If a house attacks another house it must eradicate the entire noble line of that house. If it fails to do so the attacking house is itself destroyed. This is done by the gathered might of the city including the academy.

IX. If two or more houses combine to attack another House all houses that participated in the attack are destroyed. The only exception to this is the First House, which seems to do so by the will of Lolth.

X. A house has a one-year grace period with which to rebuild buildings and army if it successfully survives an attack by another house. Any House who attacks another house that has survived a recent attack (within 1 year) loses the favor of Lolth. The priestesses lose their spells during the attack and thereafter. This remains until some great deed or service has been performed and Lolth decides to return the house to her favor. The house that has lost favor with Lolth may be attacked with impunity until that favor is again regained.

XI. The worship of Selvetarm, Lolth's Champion, is permitted. The priests of Selvetarm serve and protect the priestesses of Lolth.

Ulorbbath Factions Forum Rules-Draevir

1) Anyone may create a faction in the town of Ulorbbath by creating a new thread titled with the name of your faction here in the Ulorbbath Forum.

2) You may only lead one faction per account that you have, however, even if you lead one faction, you can also be a member of more than one faction (just not a leader of more than one).

3) Faction Leaders have total say over their faction thread. If a faction leader tells you to get out of their thread, do not pass go, do not collect $200, just leave their thread immediately and cease posting.

4) Faction Leaders may empower "officers" of their faction with authority over their thread, either while they are gone, or even if they are present. A faction officer has the same authority over a faction as a faction leader.

5) A Faction leader may recruit members into their faction and may also discharge any member of their faction for any reason.

6) Faction members may leave a faction at any time and but must get approval from a faction leader or faction officer to be considered as a member of a faction.
